Summary: Bad but not dire..
Review: Why is it so difficult to find a good guidebook to Egypt? While this is miles better than the LEt's Go attempt at covering Egypt, the maps are inaccurate and often a place mentioned in the guide will not be marked on the map, and vice-versa, so it makes for very confusing wanderings around egyptian cities. The commmentary could be a bit more detailed on the monuments and the bad humor could be kept to a minimum--overall, a rather inaccurate and functional guide to Egypt but not awful by any means...

Summary: Lousy book
Review: Written by nitwits for nitwits. Amazing that it was published in September 1999 and already (when I used it in March) it seemed five years out of date. And that's just the practical information. As far as coverage of the Egyptian people and their lives is concerned, and their history, and the ancient monuments, you might as well be reading the baseball pages in USA Today. Forget it! Get a good guide book -- if you are at all curious about getting to know Egypt.
