Summary: Short on detail
Review: This guide reads like the authors spent a couple of weeks in the D.R. Some major towns, like La Vega, don't even merit a hotel recommendation. A pretty bad guide. Avoid it.

Summary: Excellent Choice for a Travel Guide
Review: This is a great travel guide. I had taken this book with me to DR on a road trip with my friends (who lives in DR). This guide had detailed maps and descriptions on hotels and which places to visit. overall a great book. always trust lonely planet.

Summary: A Great Guide To The Dominican Republic
Review: Unfortunately, I did not get to visit Haiti but I relied on this book to give me information before I went to visit Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. I was appreciative of the honesty that the authors presented to help travellers. I did not follow the monetary mention in the book, as the others who have written negavative reviews commented on, so I cannot comment on this but I must say that it was a great book to get a general sense of where you are going, what to expect and what to be aware of. I was glad that I purchased this book before I travelled and recommend this book to all looking to visit the Dominican Republic. In general monetary guidelines are just that, guidelines, and are not meant to rely on when travelling. I thought this was common sense but after reading the negative comments written about this book I see that others are not aware of this.

Summary: Not too good
Review: What's up with Lonely Planet? Their new titles have been stinking for the last couple of years. This book wasn't very well researched. The Haiti section was very bare bones, and the Dominican Republic section was okay, but missed out on most of the best nightlife spots in Santo Domingo, some of the best beaches, didn't cover large sections of the country. I was really disappointed.
