Summary: london made easier
Review: folks, this is the best idea for a tourbook/map that i have stumbled across yet. i'm not prone to raving, but this will garner praise from me until the cows come home (bearing foot & mouth) no doubt.

so, why is this so great? first of all, it's simple and well designed. the city is broken down into sections. you turn to those pages and there is a brief description of places to eat, shop, etc. the pages then open up into a map of the section with a description of major sites in the area.

brilliant! no fumbling around a big map trying to find your street. no squinting to figure out where you are. it's easy to find landmarks, metro stops, etc.

the card stock is nice and heavy and has lasted well even in my back pocket. the descriptions have been helpful without being too lengthy. and at this price, it's quite competitive with other maps while providing much more.

Summary: EXCELLENT for the city of London
Review: I just returned from a week stay in London and two books made the trip complete - this LONDON citymap guide and Lonely Planets guide to London. We were there to sitesee and all we needed was Lonely Planet to decide where to go (includes the TUBE stops as well) and for resturants and other out of the way location, we found every street we needed with this fold out guide. It is compact but study enough to place in your pocket and then folds out to an easy read format. I received about 4 other books from friends and none compared to these two guides. Save your money - you'll be all set with these two!

Summary: Take only one book . . . this one!
Review: If you are traveling to London, and do not plan to venture outside the city limits, this book is for you. The maps are clear, and the recommendations and tips solid. It's a sturdy little book that stands up to moisture, and constant unfolding and refolding. Plus it fits neatly into a large pocket if necessary (the pocket of my Barbour Bedale jacket was perfect). I traveled to London alone, for the first time, with only this book and was very confident in my adventures.

Summary: I love this series!
Review: My husband and I are stationed in Italy for two years and we're make the most of the travel opportunities. I bought a bunch of the Knopf CityGuides for cities we were likely to visit and we love them.

A full city map on the inside cover is divided up into 5-8, then each section is further mapped on a fold-out map made of heavy cardstock. The section maps are big and easy to read, and are marked with the most important sites in that area. Each site is briefly described with opening times and cost at the bottom. On the other side of each map is a list for that section of town of recommended restaurants, bars/music venues, and shopping sites in a few price ranges. I *love* these recommendations; they take you to non-touristy, excellent restaurants and stores.

The back inside cover includes subway maps and critical getting around information.

What is unique about these guides is that no matter which part of town you find yourself in, you can quickly identify something nearby to see, eat, buy, or enjoy.

Summary: O.K.
Review: Nice maps, but not complete. I ranged out of these areas frequently on my travels.

Summary: Your best companion to your vacation to London!
Review: This book was quite helpful when I traveled to London for the first time a year ago. The maps and illustrations were clear and easy to follow. It showed the usual tourist attractions, but it also educated me on the least popular areas. It was especially great for when I went on my shopping expedition!

Lucky for me, I have a friend who lives in London and my boyfriend lives in Manchester -- which made my decision to move to the UK much easier.

But if you're out on your own, London Citymap Guide is the best companion to your vacation. Buy this book!!

Summary: Lost in London
Review: This is the most horrendous, unhelpful sorry excuse for a map I've encountered. Most shocking is its lack of an index of street names. Also, despite the enormous, individual blown-up maps of the London neighborhoods, the streets on them aren't all labeled. Finally, instead of overlapping streets on the edges of adjoining neighborhoods, the mapmakers apparently found it easier to drop them completely off the maps. I guess this map would work if you were going to the most obvious places in London, like Big Ben, otherwise, forget it.

Summary: get yourself a knopf book!
Review: wherever you go, whatever you do, get a knopf mapbook! they're the best - exceedingly accurate and informative, small enough to be ideally portable, and always offering extra stops along the way you might not have thought about - a travelers best friend, and, for $9ish, you really can't afford NOT to get one - they're wholly worthwhile.
