Rating: Summary: Generalized information on the area Review: Good basic 'generalized' information about the San Diego area. I find when you use books like this one, you really only feel they sent out questionairres to businesses then selected a few without really feeling out what makes a good hotel for some and a bad restaurant for others. The lack of any map detail as they describe locations will make you buy another guide book to see what may be in the vicinity of a particular hotel and attraction anyway. So I would stick to Fodor's or Frommer's and get a book to augment it, not this one.

Rating: Summary: Excellent San Diego insight guide! Review: I have read a number of guide books on San Diego, and most provide very useful information. However, this book by Landis and Shaw goes beyond the typical format. There are really great sections on the various cities and communities of San Diego county that provide readers interested in relocation with key insights and a general sense of real estate housing prices. There are other useful chapters on schools, things to do, restaurants, and so on that are useful for tourists, residents and families interested in relocation. The authors convey their love of San Diego in a clean, refreshing style that makes for interesting reading. I found it hard to put the book down once I got going. Going through the well-written book was like seeing an old friend at a social event and asking about "the real story" behind a particular community. I heartily recommend this book, and look forward to the time when there will be a second edition.

Rating: Summary: Not a very good guide............... Review: My boyfriend and I recently went to San Diego equipped with just this one guide book and it wasn¡¦t enough. We had to use the maps provided by our hotel to figure out how to get to the places that we wanted to go. However, I felt that the restaurant recommendations were pretty good. Whenever I went to a different location, I just followed their recommendations for food and had very pleasant meals without wasting too much time deciding on where to eat. I definitely will not recommend this guidebook to people who have never traveled in California before, because there just isn¡¦t enough information on freeways and directions. I agree with the reviewer below that it¡¦s best to use this guide book with another more in depth one. But if you¡¦ve been to San Diego before and want to visit the place again, then this guide is probably enough for you to get to the good food places and perhaps spark your interest in visiting some other attractions as well.
