Rating: Summary: A letdown Review: At first glance in the bookstore, this book seems like it would be extremely helpful for my travels in Italy. However, upon my arrival to Italy, the book was not much help. The times listed for how long it took to get from one city to another were not accurate (off by three hours in one instance!), and when I used to directions to try to find my hotel, I was led astray. Luckily I had friends with me that had Rick Steve's book. His was very good!
Rating: Summary: The best book for young people travelling in Italy Review: Found this book very well laid out and easy to follow. It splits Italy into a number of regions and then walks you through the best parts of each of these. The maps and lay out of the book are easier to follow (logistically and also narratively) than the equivalent Lonely Planet Guide. 'Let's Go' is also a thinner book and will fit more easily into your suitcase.

Rating: Summary: The best book for young people travelling in Italy Review: I bought Lonely Planet first and it really was awful so I ended up buying Let's Go once I was already in Italy for a fortune. I was hestitant about Let's Go because I had travelled using Let's Go Europe 2 years ago and I felt that it took me to very touristy spots. The new, re-wamped Let's Go is great though, it was very thourough, very up to date and has great sections on food and culture and interesting facts. Great book and resource for Italy!
Rating: Summary: The perfect book for the entry level Italian traveller Review: If this is your first visit to Italy or your first visit to one of the many 'regions' of Italy(Venice, Napoli, Firenze etc...) this is the perfect book. With separate maps of most Italian towns and easy to read legends showing the locations of train stations, bus stops and cheaper-then-average hotels/hostels you will have no problem navigating the otherwise precipitous Italian landscape. The focus of most 'Lets Go' books is the lower end hotels so if you're looking for four star elegance you may be slightly dismayed. Nevertheless this volume has excellent introductions to Italian history, culture, food and geography. Separate sections detail concerns for women and the gay/lesbian traveler. A very helpful guide to Italy, this is slightly superior to the similar 'lonely planet' travel guide. Its sections on Venice, Naples and Palermo are essential to navigating those harder then average cities. The 2003 edition may be slightly inferior to the 2002 edition if you can pick up the older one(not much has changed in Italy so the traveler need not be concerned about hotel closing or the statue of David moving!) Rating: Summary: seriously lacking Review: Once upon a time, the "Let's Go" guides were the best budget travel guides on the market. Times change, however, and the 2003 Italy edition is lacking in nearly every department. While the book is fairly useful for the large cities, there's practically nothing beyond that and absolutely null when it comes to anything off the beaten path. And although Italy may no longer be a budget destination, good deals can be found, just not in this guidebook. Stick with Rough Guide.
