Rating: Summary: The perfect gift for incoming students & all Gtown grads! Review: I gave this book to a friend who graduated from Georgetown and she absolutely loved it! Before wrapping the book, as a Hoya myself, I couldn't help but read it from cover to cover. (If the author reads this, don't worry, I went out and bought my own copy!) The authors have done a thorough job of researching the history of Georgetown and have included amazing/intersting pictures & facts about the university. Any incoming student, alumni, Washingtonian, or person generally interested in college history, will appreciate this book for years to come.
Rating: Summary: Vintage Documents and Photos Artfully Annotated Review: O'neill and Williams provide a snapshot view of one of the oldest elite universities in the country. The pictures, many of which have never been brought together before, visualize the growth of a school and community, while the captions share the interesting 200+ year history of "the school on the hilltop." A definite must have for any Georgetown student, parent or alumnus, alike. Some really cool pictures, a neat story and a great book. Bravo!

Rating: Summary: Vintage Documents and Photos Artfully Annotated Review: The books presents 200 vintage photographs and documents from Georgetown University Archives, the Library of Congress and Martin Luther King Library in D.C. The images are accompanied by detailed captions that reveal the history of the school. There are lots of interesting anecdotes about the school's founding (Georgetown's founding date was originally listed as 1788 until a typographical error in the 1850's recorded 1789), the campus (GU sold about 100 acres of land it once owned to finance the building of Healy Hall), the Civil War (three of the six conspirators in the Lincoln assasination were GU alumni), sports(Georgetown's colors of blue and gray originated with the Crew Team in the 1890's), and student life (Bill Clinton originally was not admitted to Georgetown as a freshman, and he didn't win the senior-year student council election).Other Georgetown histories are scholarly. This one is accessible. No other resource provides the volume and variety of interesting photographs and anecdotes.
Rating: Summary: A must-read for those with ties to DC and/or Georgetown. Review: This book truly captures the essence of what makes Georgetown such a special place. The images offer a fascinating glimpse of a school that grew with our nation, and the captions are succinct and insightful. Certainly an interesting read for any history buff, but a must-have for anyone with ties to the university.

Rating: Summary: If you only have one book on Georgetown U., this is it Review: This is a fantastic visual depiction and narrative of Georgetown University's rich history. The photos represent some of the most interesting points of GU's past, and they're accompanied by colorful antecdotes that deepened my knowledge and appreciation for my Alma Mater.
Rating: Summary: The perfect gift for incoming students & all Gtown grads! Review: What a wonderful pictorial history of Georgetown University. As part of The College History Series, "Georgetown University" chronicles the school's evolution into one of the most prestigious universities in the US. The authors provide pictures and documents dating back to the founding days of the "Academy at George Town." As a former resident of the DC area, I never appreciated the colorful history, nor the importance of the institution until this book. I think it would be a treasured gift for any student of Georgetown University -- past, present or future!
