Summary: Helpful guide book
Review: For encompassing the entire region this boook is about the best. There are some other good guide books on the Yucatan but most do a poor job on Belize and Guatemala. Be careful in Guatemala, I had a couple of scary situations there but it was worth it to see Tical! You might also Check out "A Tourist in the Yucatan" it has become something of a cult hit! Fun thriller adventure.

Summary: I agree Very out of date!
Review: I agree with the earlier reviewers this guide is way out of date, prices are not even close, and places that no longer exsist. This might have been a good guide a few years ago but I would not rely on it today!

Summary: A bit disappointing
Review: I agree with the other two reviewers...as far as Lonely Planet guides go, this book was a disapppointment for the areas of Belize and Yucatan I was visiting. There was barely any information for Cozumel, which is a popular destination these days, although maybe a little "upscale" for the average backpacker. Belize is a country with so many more things than what were highlighted in the book...best to find another guide before going off to explore on your own.

Summary: the best book available
Review: I recently traveled through Central America and southern Mexico for two months and found this book absolutely invaluable. I don't know how I would have managed without it. It provides good information on everything, especially on how to get from point A to point B. Before leaving for my trip, I checked out a number of other guides, and none of them even came close to matching the usefulness of Lonely Planet. Almost all travelers in this region use Lonely Planet guides. I highly recommend this book.

One other note: the Let's Go guide to Mexico is a joke.

Summary: Wish we had read some of these reviews before we left....
Review: I was sorely disappointed in this LP travelbook! They are usually fantastic, but this one really misses the mark. We planned to hit Belize and Guatemala for our trip and thought this volume would be perfect. In total argeement with the first reviwer, this guide really lacks some important Belizean information.

Summary: Incredibly out of date
Review: I'm normally a big fan of the lonely planet books - but this book was hopeless. Belize phone extensions changed 2 years ago, so every phone number is the entire book is incorrect. All the bus schedules and bus companies are out of date. Suggested accommodation costs are off by a factor of 30% or more. Whilst it is inevitable that some things will have changed since publication, the information in this book is so inaccurate it makes me wonder if the travel writers even visited many of the places they are writing about. I wish I had read the reviews before I bought this book. Take our advice, buy a different book.

Summary: Good guide for those who like to travel off the beaten path!
Review: If you are familiar with the Lonley Planet series you know what this book is about, and as with the other LP guides I found it very helpful during my trip. Lots of great info for the travler who likes to explore off the beaten path and the economy minded travler. Very helpful info concerning the ruin sites. Made my hole trip great! The only sad part was my visit to Playa Del Carmen. Last time I was there was over ten years ago when it was a small village with unpaved streets, now it has grown into a small version of Cancun. Oh! one other bit of advice, check out "A Tourist in the Yucatan" fun book!

Summary: Great for Guatamala and Southern Mexico, but.....
Review: If your travel are solely to Guatemala and the Yucatan this guide is for you. But if your planning on traveling in Belize (Central America's best country) this guide seriously lacks in Belizian facts and data. That is why I only gave it 2 stars. I would guess if your going to Guatamala or the Yucatan the book is spectacular but for Belize there are many better guides.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Informative but prices are off
Review: Lonely Planet guides are my favorite because they are thorough, informative, give lots of good info for reasonably priced traveling, and identify tons of both customary and adventurous things to do and see. This holds true for this edition however, I found that the prices were significantly higher than the book stated, the water taxi times had changed, and a car rental company mentioned did not have service in Belize-not too accurate.
