Summary: Branson's Best Day Trips
Review: Hello,

I'm often asked why I wrote this book. My first answer is always that it was the one I went looking for when I first moved to Branson. I wanted a book (one with really good maps and directions) that would give me an idea of where I might like to take visiting relatives. I wanted those places to be rich in the area's natural beauty and history, fun for the whole family, and not cost so much that you couldn't afford to see a show in the evening.

My husband and I spent several years working . . . if you can call traveling around the Ozark Mountains work . . . to come up with the best eleven one-day trips in and around Branson. It was important that there be a variety of activities along the way so that if the kids wanted to explore a trout hatchery and dad wanted to take a nature hike or mom a tour of an old-fashioned grist mill, the day would provide enjoyment for all.

Folks also ask which trip is my favorite. If you're new to Branson the local trips are a must, but if you have even one extra day you absolutely have to visit Eureka Springs, Arkansas, also known as "Little Switzerland." In an hour you'll be there, viewing authentically detailed nineteenth century homes from an open-air trolley as it takes you on a tour of this storybook city. Next, you'll exit the trolley to shop in old-town, where every business is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Even those most hard to please will delight in Eureka's unique history and charming old-world ambiance.

I hope your trip to "the music show capital of the universe" is both safe and memorable, and also that you take time to leave the hustle and bustle of the busy Strip and experience a little of the "real Ozarks."

Summary: Local Shaffer Writes the Ultimate Branson Book
Review: Now this is a guidebook, written by Branson "local" Carol Shaffer. Branson's Best Day Trips mixes area history (better than any show!) and photographs with a complete guide to Ozark attractions from shows to inexpensive day trips in the area. After all, the Ozarks do not begin and end on the Strip; Shaffer takes you to surrounding communities, and provides 19 maps and detailed directions clear enough for even the most directionally-impaired traveler! To top it off, Shaffer's writing style is delightful. We highly recommend this book.

Summary: Very helpful book
Review: We used this book throughout our vacation. The maps were great. Our favorite chapter was the one to Branson's free attractions. We would have missed a lot had it not been for this book and would recommend it to anyone.

Summary: Very helpful book
Review: Wow, what a great book! I can't believe how much information is in here. Carol obviously knows the area and I think she was able to explain a little of the background behind the different places without becoming a history lesson. I also think the maps are very clear and plenty easy to read and I think the text was well written. I especially like the section on how to navigate the various side-roads (if you've been to Branson you know how bad the traffic can be). I went on vacation to Branson before but only got to see a third of what is in this book - now I can't wait to go back again!
