Rating: Summary: Heritage for the soul..for kids and adults Review: I am not a prairie native and loved how this book has shown me why the heartland has captured the hearts of so many. My three year old wants to check this book out from the library every time we go - I finally am buying our own copy and will probably use it as a coffetable book for awhile! The illustrations evoke memories as well as feelings my family has shared in small Nebraska towns. HOORAy for this book!
Rating: Summary: beautiful stories and pictures Review: I found this book by accident and it caught my eye since I grew up in Nebraska. I bought it for Christmas presents and read it to my grandchildren on tape so they could hear Grandma telling them about her childhood which was so different from their own. This has been a main stay present for everyone in my family!

Rating: Summary: I'll say a little Prairie for you Review: I loved this seminal work from some of Canada's finest poets, and for me, the opening stanza sums up just what is right about the work of Bouchard."Oh elephant, your nose is long, Do you not think that it is wrong?" Stunning.
Rating: Summary: highly reccomend for all ages Review: The words and paintings combine to tell the best of the prairie to the rest of the world. It also manages to remind those of us who live here why we wouldn't live anywhere else. We use this book for a variety of programs, children and adult, at our small museum. It appeals to both groups with its graceful text and enchanting art. I have three copies, one I read to my niece, the other two are framed on the wall.

Rating: Summary: Beautiful book for children and adults! Review: This is a wonderfully warm and inviting depiction of the plains region. For those of us who are from the prairie, the book stirs appreciation and love for the land that has helped shape us. For those who are not from the prairie, the author offers a viewpoint that helps in understanding the beauty of the land and the people of the plains.

Rating: Summary: Great for teachers in South Dakota! Review: This is an awesome book! Coming from Eastern South Dakota (plains) it is just so perfect! I taught a lesson to students (4th grade) who live in Western South Dakota (the Black Hills) and we compared the two regions of South Dakota. We then wrote a poem that used the author's structure as a guide. We entitled the poem "If you're not from the Black Hills..." It went over great and the kids loved it! It also correlates to 4 state standards and probably many more! This book made me cry! Awesome!
