Summary: new york is a dream city
Review: A guide (whether a person or a book) can make a big diference in showing you a city. The eyewitness guide about New york is the best one you can get ,once you buy a eyewitness guide book you'll always want to buy the eyewitness guide for all the other destinations you are planning to travel. It is designed in a wonderfull style you learn and see the city different and you love all the restaurants, bar, cafes and hotel which are shown there. Anythin'described in the book deserves a visit.

They really know the places to go.Believe me I am a tourist guide myself, and I believe ý do know what is important when you travel. Thanks for this wonderfull book

Summary: Very good book
Review: As a new-yorker I would recomment to use this book as a travel guide. I'm not sure about hotels info in this book but attractions coverage is great!

Summary: Excelente guía de Manhattan

Summary: This is the one you want
Review: Why would anyone want any other guidebook ? Dorling Kindersley Travel Guides provide everything. I will use this New York guide as the example, of course, but really you could apply this review to any of their travel guides. Divided by areas, included is a district map, closer detailed street maps, sights at a glance, elevations, cutaway illustrations, small but clear photos of everything, inside and out, not to mention the all the basic travel information found in any of the others. When the trip is over, you are left with a beautiful keepsake.

A brief illustrated history gives a feel for New York's background and origins.

Then "New York at a Glance" discusses highlights and how to find more information elsewhere in the book. Here is also a general map to identify the general area of each of the highlights to see how close they are to each other.

The various aspects of culture are dealt with before getting into the main sections of "New York Area by Area" with 15 chapters each devoted to a specific district and an additional labelled "Farther Afield" covering out of the main area.

Finally there are "Five Guided Walks"

More standard features are in the back: "Travelers' Needs" including hotels, restaurants, entertainment and children's attractions.

Almost at the end is the "Survival Guide" of travel tips, but wonderful cross referenced street maps, larger than the district ones, give a bigger area.

With various sizes of cross referenced maps to diagrams of entertainment buildings, airports, museums, large parks, you can even be familiar with the layout before you arrive. With this book, any approach you choose to plan your trip is covered here, except for taste tests.

I do have one beef with this book and probably 90% of all travel guides. Few if any hotel rooms are shown. We get pictures of building facades, hotel lobbies, restaurants, spas, pools, golf courses, but where do we spend the most time, in our rooms ! What is the deciding factor of the hotel bill total ? The rooms ! I want to see pictures of what I'm paying for. Now, I will excuse DK for this, since hotels are only a small portion of their offerings, but really, even they could throw in 10 or 20 hotel room pictures.

This is your best bet. Until there is a guide showing all the hotel rooms PLUS all these features, you cannot improve on your choice of travel guides.
