Rating: Summary: Catch the Fever Review: Italy Fever is a fine book which captures the flavor and essence of Italy and all things Italian. Darlene Marwitz takes us along with her on her Italian journeys; she tells us how she enticed her non-enthusiastic husband along on an anniversary trip by calling it an excursion to see the factory where his bike came from(!)and tells us of experiences, byways, and adventures she encountered on this and other trips. When she's not traveling to Italy or plotting her next trip, Marwitz tells us how she eases her Italy fever by eating gelato, planting Italian vegetables, seeing Italian movies, reading Italian books, perusing Italian websites....and gives specifics for all of these. For armchair travelers, frequent travelers, and those in between, her book will evoke the spirit and flavor of a country which for centuries has intrigued so many.
Rating: Summary: Great Christmas gift Review: Only an architect could be so descriptive. From domestic arguments with her husband to describing quirky happenings in Italy, Marwitz brings you to the event.I enjoy reading upbeat travel writers who don't complain, but take their travel destination as it is and make the very best of it. Marwitz is never dull. She makes the best of the unexpected. The book made me laugh as I reflected on some of my own experiences in Italy. The book is insightful and nearly addictive. Great Christmas gift whether one has travelled to Italy or not. Too funny and well-written to pass up.
Rating: Summary: Italy Fever -- An Illness You Will Love Review: This book is clearly the answer to someone wanting to experience the true Italy. From detailed and insightful firsthand descriptions to funny stories of her spouse, Marwitz weaves a story that is a joy to read.
Rating: Summary: Save your Lire Review: This book was an absolute waste of time and , ... also a waste of money. My husband bought it for me as a gift. This is the only reason I felt compelled to read the book. The author drones painfully on and on about her husband's packing problems and bike fetishes. There is very little useful or interesting information about Italy in this book. For those of you who have been to Italy there is NO reason to read this book. For those of you planning a trip for the first time , please read something else. This book is not well written, offers the reader nothing and is a total waste of time!!!
Rating: Summary: Italy Fever ....leaves me cold. Review: This is not a book I would reccomend to anyone planning a trip to Italy. The book is silly and spends too much time on issues having nothing to do with anything Italian. The author spends literally chapters on her husbands' packing habits and other such nonsense. While the author seems to love Italy she tells us nothng new, the only helpful area is where she lists other books and authors dealing with Italy.
Rating: Summary: Feeding the Fever Review: This slim volume should have been a nice little personal website and I suppose makes a nice gift for the right person but is not much of a book. There is something embarassingly amateurish about the book that nearly raises it to the level of camp. The author has never lived in Italy, does not speak the language, doesn't seem to know any Italians personally, and does not appear to have ever experienced the most obvious way to "satisfy your love affair with Italy" (or if she has, doesn't want her husband to know about it). Italophiles who don't really know the country might enjoy this book. It is not exactly harmful, and in its own naive way rather charming and entertaining. It is fun for example, to see which "Italian" movies immediately come to mind but don't make her list ("Miracle in Milan" and "The Comfort of Strangers" are two that I don't see her mention).

Rating: Summary: An Absolute Must for Italiaphiles & Travellers Alike Review: Whether you are in love with Italy, an ardent traveller or an armchair traveller you will not fail to be totally caught in Darlene Marwitz's love affair with, and enthusiasm for, Italy. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It made me smile, it made me long for long hot summer days and warm evenings, it made me want to hop on the next flight to Pisa! This is not just a travel book either, it made me smile when I read Darlene's attempts at drumming up enthusiasm for her husband to travel also - now THAT I could sympathise with. A must!
