Summary: Absolutely First Rate.
Review: The description at the beginning of "Growing mountains, living myths, migrating people," summarizes this book perfectly. It is all in here, the peoples and the places who and which occupy the roof of the world.

The authors begin with an easy-to-follow description of how the mountains came into being as the earth's crust began to cool. We are then carefully - and very skilfully taken on a journey which includes every known aspect Himalayan life. We are introduced to animals that cannot survive below 20,000 feet above sea level, we are introduced to individual societies and ways of life that are difficult to understand by most "westerners."

Throughout the book's 286 pages packed with information, we are also treated to hundreds of high quality photographs which, without words, also reveal the way in which these incredible people live and work.

In summary, everything you need to know about the Himalayas and nothing to disappoint anyone.
