Summary: A Fresh Look at Japan Through the Eyes of an American
Review: I truly enjoyed reading this book because it offered me a glimpse of Japan that is not usually found in other travel or culturally-based books. I especially appreciated the author's easy-to-understand writing style. I am Japanese and it was refreshing to read about my culture through the eyes of a foreigner who now lives in Japan. I liked reading his descriptions and explanations of Japanese ways and customs. I would recommend this book to anyone who is planning to travel to Japan to visit or live; or to anyone who has lived or traveled there in the past. I think that even young readers would be interested and amused at the essays contained in this book, written in the form of "personal letters." It is easy to pick up and read a couple of essays at a time. I have even re-read several, garnering more insights each time I read them.
