Summary: Excellent Work
Review: Ms. McMillan has done it again. She truly has unbelievable talent. The book is great and a must read to all T.M. fans as well as those who have never read her books.It is realistic as well as funny and sad. There is one part of this book that was so real yet painful which is the last part of the book with Viola's misfortune. Terry describes it in such a way where you literally feel the emotions as if they were your own. This book differs from all of her other books. She ventured out into new waters and I must say she has succeeded in doing a great job! Keep up the good work Ms. T - your #1.

Summary: Terry, can you write about ANYTHING other than your life?!!
Review: After reading "Stella," I decided I had enough of Terry Mac's books about her own life. I was annoyed by her lack of creativity -- that the parallels between her life and her books are so blatantly obvious. However, my boyfriend bought "Day Late" for me to read on a flight and, after reading the cover, I thought there was hope. WRONG! Once again, Terry has written about her life (I won't give the ending away). Once again, you can pick out which character in the book is Terry -- it's the same overachieving, take-charge super-sistah character that appears in her books: Freda, Zora, Savannah, Stella, and now Paris (and they're all the oldest children except Zora, who I believe was an only child). AND AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICED THAT THE MAMA CHARACTER IS THE SAME WOMAN IN ALL OF HER BOOKS (in speech, character, responses, etc.)? Re-read "Mama" and "Waiting to Exhale," then tell me I'm wrong! Once again, I got suckered into having her book on my shelf when I could have waited for the next in-depth article on her to appear in Ebony or Essense magazines. Terry, sistah-girlfriend, PLEASE SHOW US THAT YOU HAVE AN IMAGINATION... and that you DO have some love for the brothas (stop the negative stereotypes of our men PLEASE!!!!!)! I am so disgusted and annoyed that I have decided to take this book back to the store. Instead, I will buy something for my boyfriend... just because his heart was in the right place.

Summary: A Five Star Plusssss...
Review: As a avid reader of African American literature, I found this book to be the most insightful, hilarious, and tear jearking book, I have read in a very long time. I was a little unsure if this book was going to be entertaining for me, but as soon as I finished page 1 I was engrossed. This great work can only be expected of Terry McMillian. After awaiting another novel from her for so long, the anticipation was worth it. Honestly this is one of those books that after you read it, you can't go to another novel. You need time in between. Because no book is goign to take you on a roller coaster ride quite the way this one will. It is not only words, but the book has character and will take you away. My only parting words are : "BE PREPARED TO LAUGH!"

Summary: BRAVO TERRY MCMILLAN!
Review: Anytime an author can *trigger* an asthma attack on *me* (when I don't even have *asthma*),then I feel they've done their job well.*LOL* I'm describing a scene with Viola Price in her last few seconds of life in "A Day Late...". I actually found myself gasping for breath. Terry Mcmillan really ventured back to her old self, especially her first novel, "Mama". This was vintage Terry McMillan, the author that I learned to love. You'll actually become so enamored with the characters of this novel, you'll feel like they're a part of your own family. From Paris, to Lewis, Charlotte, and Janelle, you will hold a special kinship to them all through Terry's prolific writing skills. Give this novel a try, I don't think that you will be disappointed. I certainly was not. Good going Terry!

Review: Bought this book two days ago and can't put it down. The writing is wonderful, the characters are truthful, and the humor is the icing on the cake. Terry McMillan has a great perspective on the dynamics in a family and tells a wonderful story that should ring true to anyone who has several siblings, black or white. Really enjoyed it.

Review: A Day Late and a Dollar Short By Terry McMillan Reviewed by Zane for the RAW SISTAZ BOOK CLUB No one possesses the gift of character development like Terry McMillan and she has proved it once again. For anyone that has endured family drama, which is everyone that doesn't live in a glass house, A Day Late and a Dollar Short will hit home big time. Vy, the matriarch of the family, has been to hell and back during her fifty-four years. She has a husband, Cecil, who steps out when he feels like it until he steps out one time too many and ends up becoming somebody's baby's daddy in his golden years. She has a son, Lewis, that needs to run to the nearest AA meeting before his disease kills him and/or makes him end up in the slammer for the umpteenth time. She has three daughters: Janelle, Charlotte, and Paris. They are all going through men drama, kid drama, addiction drama, or all of the above. The thing that is amazing about this novel is that you get to hear all of their distinct voices. That in itself, is quite an undertaking. One that McMillan pulls off seemingly with ease. The underlying premise of the novel is this: Make amends, institute changes, and live your dreams before it is too late. Do everything you have ever dreamed about: get an education, buy your dream house, tell someone you love them. Otherwise, you might end up like the characters in the novel, wake up one day, and find yourself a day late and a dollar short. I give this novel 5 stars on the RAW Scale.

Review: After reading A Day Late and a Dollar Short, i was disappointed after reading all 400 something pages. Depressing is the first word that comes to mind, because the book saddened me. The characters were angry, hurt, jealous, insulting and disrepectful to each other. No one was happy nor as family members did they like each other. This was a bit much to bear with 6 characters from the same family, from the mother to the youngest adult child. There was some of the usual McMillan humor when it comes to talking about people, and being descriptive these parts were very funny. The most light-hearted part of the story. I have been a fan of Terry McMillan since her first book, waitng all this time for the new book was disappointing. I hope her next book will deliver another message other than people are miserable and enjoying it, not real, not cool.

Review: Terry we missed you. What a fabulous book. I rarely cry when reading books, but this one had me in tears. I'm almost speechless. Terry, God has Blessed you with a phenomenal talent. I could not put this book down. I read it in two days. Hopefully, this book will be made into a movie with Jennifer Lewis as Viola. This role would be perfect for her. Can't wait until your next book is released!

I have read every book she has written and do not think I will be short changed on this one. So far Viola has caught my undivided attention and I want to keep reading and find out what happens to her and her 4 kids, and Cecil!
