Summary: Deborah, Take Me Away!
Review: No one writes a multi-generational romance like Deborah Smith. Reading one of her books is like taking a mini vacation from everyday drudgery.

This is the story of Claire Maloney and Roan Sullivan. Claire is from an old Georgia family and Roan is a motherless boy with a drunk for a father who lives on the wrong side of town. The book is their story of hardship, friendship, class snobbery and ultimate romance. I highly recommend this book and all of Deborah's other books for anyone who craves a well-written, interesting romance. No one does it better than she does!

Summary: No book has ever compared to this one
Review: Every book I have read since A place to call home has fallen short. It grips your heart and makes you believe every character is real and you cheer for them, hurt for them and laugh at them. It is no doubt the best book I have ever read.

This beautifully written book has left a mark in my heart, because it was touching and showed what can be accomplished through true love. I would definanlty reccommend it.

Summary: It was THAT good!
Review: I didn't want to finish this book, so I read it slowly (which was difficult to do because I wanted more!). This is one of my all time favorites. Enjoy!

Summary: As a Southerner would know....
Review: For the same reason that I love any work by Pat Conroy, I have come to love Deborah Smith's novels. As a life-long Southern gal myself, I find myself smiling at the "oh-so-true" descriptions and metaphors that are so unique to our culture. From small-town parades to local "hysterical societies," I always feel that Ms. Smith is writing about the people and places that I grew up around. I can't wait to read her next novel!

Summary: A Magical Book
Review: By the time I finished "A Place to Call Home", it had become my favorite book, replacing "Heidi", which had been my favorite ever since I was eight years old. I have rarely read a book that has so captivated me as "A Place to Call Home" did. It is a wonderful work of art that I will always treasure. I felt like I was a part the book and I cried just as hard as Claire when Roanie was sent away. I would love to see this book become a movie, though no movie could ever do it justice!

Summary: Favorite Southern novel in a long, long time
Review: If you're looking for heart, romance and family bonds, you've found it in this novel. A Place to Call Home really demonstrates the ties that bind and break within a family. I fell in love with the characters, the plot and of course, the setting. I enjoyed the Irish heritage background, and found so much to relate to in each character, good and bad. My favorite interaction would have to be between the great-grandmother and the grandmother. The "friendly" rivalry never ceased to make me smile. This was absolutely wonderful, and I am running to read more of Deborah Smith.

Summary: ANOTHER WONDERFUL BOOK!
Review: Ms Smith has done it again--given us another book with characters a reader comes to love, anguish with, and rejoice with throughout the story. How wonderful! This was the second book I read by Ms Smith, and I loved it, though Blue Willow remains my favorite by a very narrow margin--maybe because it was the first book of hers I've read. These characters will remain with me for a long, long time, the mark of a great novel. Thank you, Ms Smith, for giving me hours of reading pleasure!
