Summary: Written in 5 minutes
Review: Not sure why Jan Karon even wrote this book. It gives you nothing new to the story. It was written as if her publisher wanted something new so she wrote this in 5 minutes just to please her publisher. This book is so unlike her other books. She's a wonderful writer with stories that just sweep you off your feet and characters that find their way into your heart to stay. As far as this book is concerned, don't waste your time.

Summary: A Visit to a Charming Town. Strong Christian Themes
Review: The Mitford Series is a collection of incredibly simple books about small town life. Told from the point of view of a preacher in a mythical town in the hills of North Carolina. Everybody knows everybody else, and not much happens. These are the perfect books to curl up with for some summer porch or beach reading.
Like life the plots are winding and not necessarily purposeful but by the end of the stories your can think back and realize how things developed to an inevitable conclusion. You basically follow a 60 year old preacher through his travails. Since he is a Christian man there is quite bit of bible quotation, but otherwise the story is not about his church so much as his efforts to keep life in order and cope with being a single man who has fallen in love, past his youth yet surrounded by a small town that loves him - sometimes too closely.

One warning..this is very much a "sweet" book. It challenged me to forgo my natural skepticism. I put this in the category of a read that won't tax the reader all but may instead impart a little smile.

Also be aware that a stong Christian message plays throughout much of the dialogue and thinking.

Summary: Everyday Life
Review: I enjoyed reading this book very much.It took me back to when life was so much simplier than it is today. I love weddings and this story was all about planning and attending a wedding.

Summary: A common retold Tale
Review: I always look forward to NEW books in the Mitford Series. I was very disappointed in that I was rereading history. I felt cheated even though there were details explained in this book not previously revealed. But I really didn't care about the who what and color of the flowers or bridal suit.....bring on NEW stories please!

Summary: If you love to hear the details...
Review: One of the only frustrating things about the Mitford series is that sometimes Jan Karon doesn't give details for events mentioned in the book. In this case, Ms. Karon has realized the error of her ways and has written a delightful little story detailing the much-anticipated wedding of Father Tim and Cynthia Coppersmith. I read this book between the second and third (exactly where it fits in best in regards to the series) and it made a lot more sense than it did for my friends who read the series in order. Yes, it's short. Yes, it's too fast a read. Yes, you will be entertained by it. Enjoy!!!

Summary: a common, boring, disappointment...
Review: i should have believed the poor reviews but had to find out for myself...the book was an absolute bore...i kept reading and hoping that something/anything was going to happen...this is such a common, boring, disappointment to an avid reader of life in mitford...but this will not stop me from buying/reading the next book in the mitford series - i can only pray to the lord's chapel that jan karon returns to her familiar format and cast of characters that most of us have grown to know and love!

Summary: Sleeper
Review: Waste of time. Boring. Slow moving. Love the author. If you are a HUGE fan and have to read everything of hers, then read it. Otherwise, move on.

Summary: A Disappointment
Review: While the information on the jacket implies that this sixth book is a continuation of the story, it backtracks into an event not previously covered in detail. Moreover, this is a short story packaged as a novel - with large print, lots of white space, and little to say. Definitely a disappointment. It appears that the author ran out of original ideas but needed to make a deadline (or more money from her previously loyal fans).

Summary: Don't get DUPED
Review: Jan Karon is capitalizing on the success of the series to put out books in the SERIES that don't take place after the latest plot developments. If you know someone who hasn't read the series, recommend they read this book in succession.

Summary: Finally!!
Review: Being a firm Father Tim and Mitford fan, I have been waiting to be invited to the wedding, and I wasn't let down when the invitation finally came. Jan Karon paints such realistic characters that you wish you could be transported to Mitford and become a resident. I wish Karon a long life and many, many more Mitford books. Father Tim finally gets the proposal out of his mouth to Cynthia, and the wedding of the year takes place. Now, I want a book about their honeymoon in Maine.
