Summary: Not on a Mac
Review: Despite being advertised as running on Mac the Cd supplied has only PC files on it. The company website states that support is no longer offered on this product. A pity as my kids loved the first Zoombinis.

Summary: Uses 24-bit Color ONLY
Review: Do NOT buy this product unless your PC specifically supports 24-bit color! This software would not run on any of my three PC's. If your PC has 32-bit color I don't think this software will work on your PC unless it also supports 24-bit color. Unfortunately, all of my PC's have the better color but do NOT support 24-bit color. This is not industry standard. Standard would allow use of the higher color albeit with a minor hit on performance.

Not sure if your PC supports 24-bit color? Right click on the empty desktop. Left click on properties. Left click on the settings tab. Under colors, see if (24 bit) color is listed. If it's not, you may be in trouble.

This is the only software out of dozen's and dozen's I have purchased that I cannot get to run on any of my PC's. My recommendation to anyone would be to borrow a copy and try it before you purchase. I am extremely disappointed in this software!!!

Summary: Disappointed Mac Owner
Review: Don't order this if you own a Mac. It's for Windows only! I was so disappointed because my daughters and I liked the first Zoombinis so well. We've had it for about 5 years, and we still get it out and play with it. I couldn't decided whether to give this new one 1 star or 5, because if it's as good as the first one, and as good as the box made it look, I'm sure it's excellent. Mac owners need to find a way to show software companies that we will provide them with enough business so they can afford to develop these good programs for us too!

Summary: Disapointed
Review: Finally, there is another Zoombinis game. It took about five years, but I was so excited that I immediately rushed out and bought it. I was a little disappointed to see that the graphics had changed, so that all of the Zoombinis looked different. As soon as I started to play it, however, I changed my mind. Though it only has nine puzzles and three difficulty levels for each, the game is still challenging. The Zoombinis are living in Zoombiniville happily, until a storm makes some Zoombinis get trapped in a cave. They venture out to rescue the others, and find that the friendly Boolies have lost their mayor. Now, the Zoombinis decide to help the Boolies get back to Booliewood so that their mayor will return. Instead of the difficulty level rising for an entire leg, each level can now have its own setting. Once a group of 16 Zoombinis gets through a level any three times without losing any Zoombinis, the difficulty level rises. Math and logic are slyly disguised and placed in each level, without using numbers. Some of the new concepts include dimension labeling and binary addition. This long-awaited sequel to the first Zoombinis game is almost as good as Logical Journey, though I would rather have the first if I had to choose. If you like this game, try the original, Zoombinis Logical Journey, and the third, Zoombinis Island Odyssey.

Summary: zoombinis mountain rescue
Review: My children loved Zoombinis 1, and were delighted to find Mountain Rescue in their Christmas Stocking. What a disappointment. After three weeks of trying we have only been able to get as far as the title page when the program crashes and we have to press the "reset" button and restart the computer. Communication with Broderbund/Learning Co has proved unhelpful as so far they have only come up with the standard advice of update drivers, delete temporary files, close down unnecessary programs etc. Three weeks after Christmas Day my children have still been unable to play with their present. A big thumbs-down so far, I'm afraid. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had the same problem - particularly is they have managed to resolve it!

Update - it's now April - nearly four months after Christmas - and we have got no further with playing this. Other friends have tried it on their PC's with the same results. Borrow it first, before spending your money!

Nearly the end of August now - and still trying. Keep visiting support to see if any patches come out (they haven't) and updating drivers to see if that makes any difference (it hasn't).

Summary: Zoombinis Mountain Rescue Fun, Secretly Educational....
Review: My children received Zoombinis Mountain Rescue for Christmas, alongside Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, I Spy Treasure, and the Sim Theme Park PC programs. Now that it is March, Zoombini Mountain Rescue is the only program that continues to challenge my 6 and 8 year old sons to think. They cannot memorize this game; it changes and requires constant problem solving. It's humor and fun hide the fact that this is an "educational program." This is a great way for kids to learn mathematical theory and logic! ( My Mother, a teacher, even used the 1st Logical Journey of the Zoombinis in her 1st and 2nd Grade classroom with much success. ) We had no problems with loading, display, and playing the program. The characters and challenges in both Zoombini programs are neither violent nor simpering. Kids at 6 years will need some parent help as they progress in Zoombini Mountain Rescue. Logical Journey of the Zoombinis was less difficult for the youngest gamers. Watch out parents! It's fun for all ages...

Summary: Think BEFORE you buy
Review: Our family has eagerly anticipated the new Zoombinis Mountain Rescue because we loved the original Zoombinis so much. Mountain Rescue has been a big disappointment. Some of the games are difficult to understand based on the instructions given. Even the very easy levels are hard for my children. This was not the case with the last Zoombinis. There seems to be alot of hesitation on the computer both during and after completing some games. Even the voice of the narrator sounds as if he is bored. The graphics are good, but everything else that made the first one wonderful is missing. I would stick with the first one if you haven't already gotten this one.
