Summary: Works for me
Review: I was really excited to try this product, but after hours and hours of frustration, I finally gave up. On the surface, the GUI interface is very slick and it seems like Studio 8 could do everything I wanted (record analog video, edit, and create VCD's). It has nice editing features that are fairly intuitive. However, the application locked up or crashed regularly (I installed v8.8). You can use the auto-save feature to help minimize loss of work. When it was running, I was constantly encountering little quirks and made the user's experience frustrating. Plus, it was painfully slow on my PC (P3, 1GHz, 384MB RAM, WinME). Pinnacle should reduce the GUI 'fanciness' and work on making it run faster and smoother. It seems that it would be a great product, if it worked as promised. My recommendation: Wait for Studio 10!

Summary: Pinnacle has a lot to learn!
Review: I was very excited when I purchased this package. A PCI video I/O card and what looked like awesome software at such a great price! What could be better? Let me tell you...

The software [isn't very good]! It is prone to crashing while rendering as well as at other times. The capture driver is a HUGE disappointment in that it's not compatible with most other software. Adobe Premiere 6 can't use it, and none of the other software that I like to use will work with it. The biggest problem is that Studio 8 outputs files that are not compatible with most freeware editing software and some good commercial packages. TMpeg can't decode the supposedly standard MPEG file that Studio 8 renders and the AVI files it puts out are garbage with the sound cutting out for a split second randomly throughout the entire video.

If you are only going to use the Studio 8 software that comes with it to go direct to disc, you might be ok, but don't plan on doing any serious work with this thing! It should work for the amateur who wants to transfer home movies to VCD or DVD, but I wouldn't recommend it for anything beyond that!

I had better compatibility with my ATI All-In-Wonder Pro card of yesteryear!

A change in the Pinnacle capture driver would be a big improvement and make this card a serious contender in the video editing market for almost any user!

Summary: Stay Clear
Review: Simple, let's cut to the chase...this product stinks. Stay clear and do not purchase. I cannot vouch for Pinnacle's other products but do not buy this one. In addition to their buggy software/hardware, their customer support is poor.

You've been forewarned, look elsewhere for your analog needs.

Summary: Works for me
Review: The card and software installation went smoothly. I burned my first test cd within 30 minutes. (about 10 minutes in length)
There is a few seconds pause when I click on a drop-down box, but other than that everything worked fine. My machine is a 1.73 ghz Athlon, 640 mb ram, Windows XP Home. I would suggest reading the manual and using a pretty fast computer.

Summary: Buggy, never really worked
Review: The editing features are good and it is easy to learn and use. But it was difficult to install, the tech support is poor and after many tries I could never got it to work right. It crashed constantly, and would not produce some of the file types listed. I really wanted to use this software, so I spent a lot of time trying to get technical support. My problems were never resolved.

Summary: this poduct rocks!
Review: This prduct rocks. Imagine not having to buy an expensive digital camcorder who costs double the price. Just make a little investment for this adapter and software for a regular analog camcorder (or even a vcr or anything that has A/V ports) and you have a movie editing package in your house just for a little investment. Don't waste time, buy it NOW! And even better the program is very easy to use, even for those who almost don't know anything about computers. Im very pleased with the results of The Studio AV V8 Editing
