Summary: Java and numerous other problems!
Review: Well, for starters you have to have Java
and Microsoft no longer has Java. So
after searching to find it and installing
it, BIG mistake. The buttons are very
hard to read and it is slooowww loading!

Now for the other problems, it does
NOT convert data correctly from MS Excel,
it changes and what it cannot convert
it is left with question marks. What
happened to my data! Horrible, is the
only word that can describe this product.
I wasted my money on this, I went and
purchased MS Office 2003 and have been
completely satified, because it works!

Summary: Good product for the price it sells, but...
Review: StarOffice 7 is a good office suite for the money paid, but I think the people in SUN software got to get up their backside and work a little more in some components of the suite like for example, the calc spreadsheet, I find its calculating power rather weak, sadly it does not include an equivalent to Excel's SOLVER, this spreadsheet also seem to take a lot of resources while graphs or charts are been processed to be displayed.
Also the database program is very confusing.
Sun in reply to microsoft's office ACCESS includes a database program of limited capacity named ADABAS D, which I have found so far to be rather difficult to learn.
Other than this, I find StarOffice a very good office suite, for now it's worth the money, but if SUN wants to aspire big they'll have do a much better suite next time.

Summary: Amazing Alternative to MS Office!
Review: Wow! Bought Start Office 7 the other day (upon my friend's recommendation!), and I must say they finally did it at Sun. What else can be said? Everything actually works as promised. Fast, performant. Intuitive to use. (To be expected as Sun seems to target that MS user base, so there is no learning curve) MS file conversion is great! For this price, it's a must to consider against MS Office. The bottom line is that it works and has all the features that you need from an Office Software Suite.

Summary: Better and faster than MS Office
Review: I have been using Star Office and Open Office suites for a while (since 5.1) and the improvment of product quality has been great. I use it all time interchageably with others using MS office and other office programs. Now both Star Office or Open Office is in the mainstream and I am in the process of eliminating all MS office software from my systems. MS's has a vision where they are going to try control how you think and their office software show this by all the auto-formatting is does while writing. If you are not sure if you would like it, try openoffice.org first. Star Office is a much more polished version of Open Office with extra bells and whistles. I give it 5 stars in all areas except price and that is why it is only 4 out 5 stars.

Summary: still a wide room for improvement
Review: I heavily rely on Word and PowerPoint but also use Excel at basic level. From time to time, I shift to their StarOffice counterparts for change of air. I have tried StarOffice since the time it was produced by a German company. Over time, I think StarOffice improved itself greatly with the immense support of open source community. In its current stage of evolution, the software is still behind Microsoft Office, at least in my area of use. Word processor does not have a grammar check utility which is very useful for me. It is hard to change languages in the same document unlike Word which has a handy button. on the plus side, StarOffice has a tool to convert documents to pdf files albeit without url functionality. Presentation software poorly filters Powerpoint, most slide effects are lost. I am not even an intermediate user of Excel but I have seen loss of formats in cells in the files I created with Excel and tried to open them with StarOffice Spreadsheet. Overall, I think the Sun's software can use a lot of improvement, particularly in areas of linguistic tools and MS Office compatibility. finally, the package must eventually include an email program. Still, it is very useful in its current form too and would certainly save money for most people.

Summary: The transition could not be easier !!
Review: If you work in or work with corporations, this is the software for you. Holy cow, it runs on windows, mac, linux, and solaris. (Unlike MSOffice)

As an MCSE I have solely used MSOffice since it beat out Wordperfect many years ago. Well this transition to StarOffice is just as easy.

It has more windows compatibility than MSoffice. It doesn't remove the backwards compatibility like MS does. So you can work with all your old archived files and still save them in WHATEVER format you want. If you want it as pdf go right ahead. This is awesome.

Highly recommended!

Most things that SUN Micro puts out does require a slightly higher level of computer savvy. So if you are not willing to learn where the button locations are, you might want to stick in the dark ages with MSoffice.

Summary: The low-down
Review: First off, this has to be the worst Office suite I have ever purchased. It does not convert files correctly, or if it does it must be in a foreign language or something. There is NO email application? What the heck do use for email, well I guess there is no market for email any longer..... Anyways, I find that the icons in the applications are hard to read, something to do with Java. Just do yourself a favor and just use MS Office it works!

Summary: Java is full of bugs
Review: This needs java to run and it is the worst plug-in you can put on your PC. It causes run-time script errors and helps you download viruses on you computer. The Open office is worse than this, if you use either versions of these Office suites your computer will crash and never work right again. I am happy I have a backup, because I had to ghost my computer after this StarOffice install.

Now after installing MS Office 2003, I am not pleased with myself wasting money on StarOffice.

Summary: Better stuff for free
Review: I left the Microsoft Office monopoly a while back. And let me say there is better stuff than Star Office out there for free. Programs like Open Office can do word processing, spreadsheets, web pages, and power-point like projects and have updates, unlike Star Office. Do yourself a favor and don't touch this cheap clone.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Bad software
Review: This product failed to convert files correctly, thus causing data to be lost.

Stay away, just buy the norm MS Office.
