Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good update to a classic
Review: The worst part about this game is the awful backstory (evil Batnix has captured Daisy...it's just bad) -- at times I thought it was tongue-in-cheek, other times I wasn't too sure. I hope it's tongue-in-cheek.
Anyway, the actual game play is a little confusing at first, but during the first level a trainer guides you through the new moves available. The appealing thing about the original Breakout was its elegant simplicity, this update adds some complexity to the controls but it's easy to get the hang of. I didn't understand why you can switch between different paddles; they really aren't much different.
The graphics are very good, gameplay is fun, and the original Breakout is the "final challenge" (Batnix "challenges you to an ancient game" ...it made me laugh).
It's pretty easy to beat the game, you get unlimited lives and the better you are the more difficult the levels are, the worse the easier the levels. This automatic change of difficulty will keep newer players from getting frustrated and it greatly increases the replay value. You can save your game, and after you've won a level you can replay it at your leisure. This is especially fun for replaying the original Breakout game.
Definitely a recommended game.
