Summary: The Best Microsoft Operating system ever created
Review: Microsoft hit a home run with Windows XP Professional. If you want the most solid, reliable, and most trouble free operating system look no further.

I give MS XP Pro 5 Gold stars!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This is one sweet operating system but not 4 old technology
Review: Windows XP Pro is quite arguably the most reliable operating system that Microsoft has come out with yet. Additionally it comes with the option of converting it to a Windows 98SE desktop appearance, for those who don't want to fuss with learning new instructions to get the old things done. It does so much more though.
One note of caution; do not install XP in an older machine, with older hardware. Your sound card vendor may have stopped making software drivers a long time ago for your now discontinued device. The problem is that they do not want to spend the resources to create drivers for a product that they no longer make. So if you have an old video card, audio card, modem, etc, it quite possibly won't work with XP. If you try to install XP you will get all kinds of incompatible error messages. So do yourself a favor and put old wine into old bottles, and new wine into new ones; consider getting a newer machine if you are going to upgrade to XP. You might wind up spending close to the same amount of money upgrading your components to make it work, as you would to just simply buy a new one. Check with all of your hardware manufacturers to see if they produced XP drivers for your existing hardware. Hope this helps.

Summary: Poor Referral
Review: I was extremely disappointed with your suggested dealer "TEKDEAL INC". I ordered a Microsoft XP-Retail edition and received XP-OEM. The OEM version does not work and TEKDEAL with not honor a refund policy. I received poor customer service and received a worthless software. VERY DISAPPOINTED!! I do not recommend Amazon referring customers to TEKDEAL because you will get a RAW-DEAL.

Summary: Excellent operating system
Review: After finding out that Linux does NOT and has NO functionality to speak of. I purchased XP-Pro upgrade. To sum it all up, one word - AWESOME! Do yourself a favor and try this, it is plug and play to the extreme, is fast booting up and tons of applications available. Also purchased was Office 2003 Professional, the email client OUTLOOK is the best to date.

Overall, you cannot go wrong with Windows XP-Pro.

Summary: Windows sucks
Review: Windows has always sucked and it will do so forever. Free software is much better for my needs.

Summary: Dont beleive all you hear !
Review: As with any PC software the programmers usually have a tough job of making it work on EVERY PC, and I think this stands true even more so for an operating system. The miriad of hardware configurations out there and the badly made or damaged hardware is massive. People cannot expect a piece of software to upgrade perfectly if they have screwed with their previous one..

And saying this Microsoft appear to have been 99.9% succesful.. Which by any businesses standard is a good achievment.

If you are not particularly computer literate then this is the software for you. It is straight forward and tends to fix most problems for you. And windows update is a must to protect you from the scummy little brats that try to break your computer.

Only one problem ... the price !!!! No wonder microsoft have a problem with piracy.. Ouch ..

Summary: Windows XP No Problem Upgrades A Myth
Review: I like to give any significant software package a little time before I purchase or upgrade to it. My hope is, after a few months, the various bug patches will be available to insure that when I get the package I can avoid the majority of headaches that come with it. So I waited until now to upgrade to Windows XP. The setup seemed very impressive as it offer a pain-free upgrade from previous versions of Windows, which assured me that the program menu, desktop items and other personal data would be safely maintained during the upgrade. After the 90 minute upgrade process completed, all of these assurances turned out not to be true. Further, Microsoft's support for Windows XP was next to nil. While they had a phone number I could call for support, the people didn't seem to have a clue as to what to do with installation issues such as I had, further, I was placed on hold for long period of time as long distance charges accrued, while they touched base with other people who might know. Those people were apparently never found as I cumulatively spent up to 5 hours between brief assurances that they were still looking into it. Finally, I had to do the system footwork myself to find and restore many of my original programs, desktop items, start menu setting, corrupted registry entries, and email accounts/data; all of which had been misplaced by the install, though fortunately not deleted. The Windows XP upgrade also left me immediately infected with an internet worm which I had to scan for and get cleaned up. The only reason why I've not given the software 1 star is because once I fixed all of these problems with over ten hours of personal time, Windows XP now seems to be running pretty well. Though I do recommend a third party firewall like Zone Alarm rather than trusting Microsoft's built in fire wall protection, which seems more like an oxymoron. If you go Windows XP, good luck! You'll need it.

Summary: THERE SHOULD E A NEGATIVE RATING ALLOWED
Review: Where to begin with this tumerous mound of bloated software? In the beginning (before all the security problems were found - and continue, sometimes several times a day) XP home ran well. Now, no doubt, large chunks of code have been patched, re-patched and entirely replaced.

The result is this rotting pile of dung that goes sooooo slowly.

Unlike other notorious monopolists, Gates trumpets his great innovation.

(...). Each and every product of Microsoft is either a look back (often to Apple) or a buy-in. Each and every MS initiative (remember.NET?; remember XBOX?) has been a failure. Gates spends billions to produce technological failures.

XP is the most glaring example of this. Gates would do well to XPlode XP and start over.

Summary: XP prevented my laptop from becoming a doorstop
Review: Yes, Windows systems have been problematic and can drive a user stark raving loony. Acknowledged. And despite being adept with the utility functions (scan disk, defrag, etc.) and other low-grade hacks, I was near the end of my rope with crashes, system freeze-ups, and general poor performance under Win98. So for me, the WinXP upgrade was a measure of last resort.

Darn glad I did it, by the way. Upgrading has given new life to my system, and will gain an extra 2 years (minimum) on a machine (five-year old Sony laptop) that I had almost given up on. Crashes are non-existent, programs are easier to install/uninstall, and in general, all tasks are now easier with WinXP.

Even more: it's worked just fine on 128mb RAM.
