Summary: bloody awesome
Review: I was never a fan of the shooter games (Wolfenstein, etc) until UT-GoTY. The standard maps and weapons kick [...], and the game is very fast paced and fun. But the real fun begins when playing multi-player over the web (make sure you have a T1 or higher connection) or LAN. We used to get about a dozen or more people on the LAN and mix our play between 2 or 3 team-play, or just enjoy the chaos of the free-for-alls. In particular, Space-Knox is great for 10+ people in an all-out war.

This was the first game where I really spent some time looking for unique mods out on the net. UT was one of the first games to allow users to build their own maps, weapons, characters - you name it. Like sitting on top of a tower with a sniper rifle, picking off enemies far down below? You got it. Enjoy small arena play with a couple friends and a dozen bots? You got it.

Only thing to be aware of it that this game, even with the mature taunts turned off, is still not for the wee kids.

Summary: In some ways still the best
Review: IF you are a fan of UT you know that the fast paced hyper fighting of Championship and 2K3 are awesome but nothing beats the classic Unreal Tournament Experience. The Game of the Year Edition includes all the mods and updates also. You need to get this game. At 10 bucks, its quite a deal. I reccomend Assault on Operation Overlord. If you buy the game you will know what that sentence means.

Review: If you enjoy first-person shooters and have yet to experience the Unreal series, make sure you pick up the Unreal Tournament Game Of The Year Edition CD-ROM. This is easily one of the PC's best games.

Set in the future, the Liandri Mining Corporation sponsors a bloodthirsty tournament to determine who is the most powerful hunter in the universe. Across scores of diverse arenas - from derelict space stations to gothic cathedrals - combatants duke it out.

This 2 CD set comes packed with over 50 awesome maps, several gameplay mods, and some of the best multiplayer action available anywhere. On most modern computers, the framerate is solid. The additional OpenGL patch also enables mipmapping and other neat graphical effects. Most of the game's environments are comprised of a very low number of polygons, and yet appear extraordinarily rich and detailed. Even the music is great and quite listenable outside of the game!

Gameplay is simple with the typical WASD + Mouselook control scheme. Most of the game's weapons have dual-fire modes and some, such as the Shock Rifle, allow you to create deadly combo attacks. You'll pick up the controls in no time.

Plus, they throw in the amazingly comprehensive UnrealEd map editor so you can create your own maps! The designers of the game have clearly dedicated themselves to giving the Unreal community many tools to create new Unreal experiences. All over the Internet, there are tutorials, forums, and archives of great user-made content. From hundreds of additional maps to lengthy single-player campaigns replete with storylines, you can spend coutnless hours exploring all of the free additional content available on the Internet.

Unreal Tournament 2003 was the successor to this game and although it brought vastly improved graphics, I think that the original UT still has better gameplay and a more solid feel. Try it for yourself and see what you think.

The only real con to this game is that it takes a while to set it up properly, but this is due to the sheer amount of content that exists for it. Not only is there a patch to fix gameplay bugs, but there are also four excellent "bonus packs" of textures and maps you can download for free. The UMOD installer system, however, makes it very easy to install these and other add-ons. Simply click on the .umod file and UT will take care of the rest. When playing multiplayer, mods and maps you don't have are automatically downloaded for you.

I was a latecomer to the Unreal scene, but I instantly fell in love with this series after buying this title on impulse for ten bucks. It truly is one of the most fantastic games I've ever played, which says a lot considering I own dozens. For hours of non-stop enjoyment and entertaining, you simply cannot beat this game. Worth every penny and then some.

Review: It was better then Quake III back in the day, and it still has some things that make it the best (better sniper rifle then 2k3, and facing worlds I & II rule III) For someone looking for a sweet lanparty game, that'll probably run even on the folks machine, this is a total classic!

Review: Ive played so many shooters, from Rogue Spear to Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. Looking back at Unreal, I realized that this was the most fun I've ever had gaming. To be frankly honest, there were some moments when I think it was as much fun in my life doing anything. The online experience of Unreal at time will just blow your mind, especially with the abundance of modded maps. It's unfortunate that this game is tapering out insofar as players due to it's age and newer games. It's still the best. Also, as been noted elsewhere, it can be played very easily at high settings even with an older graphics chip. Try MOH Pacific Assault on high mode with a 64DDr chip... it can't work. With Unreal, it runs flawlessly.
Have fun!!!!

Review: This is an older game but it is still the best. This is the game that ruined all other video games for me. I have been playing this game for about 2 years and I still have not tired of it. This game is best played with a high-speed internet connection because the online gamplay makes the game. Due to its easy to learn map editor, the maps to play on and the mods to play with are endless. This is a Windows game but with alot of determination and know-how it is possible to play it on the Linux operating system for better performance. The UT community has made contributions and changes to this game that make it very different from its origins. This game plays best on a 1Ghz or better processor, with a 32Mb or better video card. I now play this game exclusively! This game has a life of its own and is the game all other games wish to be. Hope to see you online.

Summary: Pure Awesomeness
Review: Unreal Tournament has to be one of top 5 games that I have ever played--you'll see what I mean. I have played Quake III, Serious Sam, Rogue Spear, Swat III, you name it--those games are basically a footnote compared to UT. In UT you can explore levels that take you from deep outer space asteriods to an underground water treatment facility to the spooky haunted house thousands of feet up--seriously the levels are that good--eye-appealing backgrounds with polished textures are the best I've seen. Meanwhile, you'll be blasting your opponents around bloody murder with any weapon of your choice--from double enforcers to the obliterating redeemer. Such weapons are equipped with special alternate fire modes, which definitely gives UT a lot of umph. The techno-rock music with its upbeat and intense rhythm tends to put a lot of the excitement into the game while your trying your darndest to blast your enemies. From Assault to Last Man Standing, you can expect to have some of your greatest battles in this game. The assault is one of my favorite modes in which you must complete objectives successfully--but it's incredibly fun to order your team to attack and just watch all the rocket launchers go off! Also, I have an NVIDIA MX/MX 400, about 3 or 4 years old and Unreal Tournament works amazingly smooth. Unreal Tournament is definitely worth your bucks, whether you played UT2003 or 2004, or even just beginning! A very addictive game indeed and probably one of the best out there!
