Summary: An overlooked gem...
Review: Carnivores 2 requires a little patience and appreciation for suspense, but it repays those qualities with solid gameplay and substantial replay value. Even after you've bagged every dinosaur in the game, you'll want to find bigger and better examples for your trophy room. A variety of weapons and terrains helps keep things fresh, and a serviceable game engine makes tromping through the past a pleasant experience. The graphics are decent, and the sounds are even better. Overall, playing Carnivores 2 is akin to watching a really enjoyable "B" monster movie. A few lingering bugs detract slightly from the experience, but they're rather minor. Highly recommended to dinosaur fans that don't object to the hunting/shooting aspect of the game and to hunting fans that don't mind becoming the hunted!

Summary: Could have been better.
Review: I would give Carnivores 2 a slightly lower quality rating than the original Carnivores. I can see now why original Carnivores is a better seller than Carnivores 2. The main problem with Carnivores 2 is that the dinosaurs are either too sensitive or too aggressive, more so than in Carnivores 1. The result of this is that either they can climb up steep cliffs giving the player hardly any protection places or else they run away too quickly at the slightest sight of the player. Luckily there's an edit file for modifying sensitivity in running away which helps improvement of play, but it doesn't do any good in lessening aggressiveness. Another fluke is the sun would glare in the eyes making it hard to see; Carnivores 1 didn't have this feature. The positive side of Carnivores 2 is that the 3D graphics are just as good as the original, and some cool new dinosaurs added. If you want to play this game successfully then just hunt the herbivores.

Summary: FUN GAME
Review: This would be a good game if the dinosaurs acted, well, like dinosaurs. Instead the game is set up to make them act randomly and contrary to instinct. For example, using the dinosaur call to attract carnivorous dinosaurs often makes them run away in fear! But in the next game it draws a whole herd of them. Another example: when pursuing an aggressive, carnivorous dinosaur through the water, the creature will ignore the call and swim out of range, but then follow you back to shore when you give up the chase. Finally, the "vulnerable spots" on the dinosaurs do not always work. I have emptied a full clip from the 9mm into an allosaurus' head, which the game says is its weak spot, and it keeps coming. Other times, tho, a single shot from the same weapon into its back brings it down! I found the game frustrating and very boring.

Summary: FUN GAME
Review: True to its title, this sequel emphasizes dinosaurs of the more voracious variety. Whereas only three dinosaurs in the first game were meat eaters, Carnivores 2 adds the camel-like spinosaurus and the horned ceratosaurus to the fray, which make for a fine assortment of dangerous game alongside the velociraptor, allosaurus, and tyrannosaurus. There are new plant eaters as well, including the armored anklyosaurus. Some of these, such as the towering brachiosaurus, are present to provide atmosphere rather than sport. As in the first Carnivores, everything that lives and breathes in Carnivores 2 looks terrific. All the dinosaurs are carefully detailed and almost disturbingly lifelike as they graze and go about their dinosaur business. They leave trails of blood if you shoot and wound them, and if you take them out with tranquilizers, you can see them heaving in slumber. These are truly some of the best-looking dinosaurs ever rendered onscreen. They also sound convincing, and while you can't know what a dinosaur actually sounds like, Carnivores 2 poses a pretty good hypothesis. The nine species you hunt all have their own distinctive calls, and the larger ones sound downright scary.CHECK OUT (GAMESPOT.COM) FOR FULL REVIEW
