Review: I bought this game a year ago and finally got around to playing it today. I enjoy board games, especially Scrabble, but I've never played Upwords before. There are ten skill levels. I played the computer at level 5. I'm an expert Scrabble player but I won one game about out of the twenty that I played. This is an entirely different strategy. The thing that threw me off is that there are no points for specific letters, so a Z is scored the same as an E. I'm afraid to play this game too much as I think it might hurt my Scrabble game. But still, it's great fun. I'm waiting for a weekend when I snowed in by a blizzard, then I'll beat the darn thing!

Summary: Cool game.
Review: I received this game as a value pak bonus with the scrabble game received as a birthday present. Having never played the original board game version, it looked intriguing, and like scrabble, it translates well to the PC.

Amazingly, this is not an easy game, is as tough as scrabble, and sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. But as a fan of word games, this is one of my favorites.

All-in-all, a great game. If you like scrabble, you'll really enjoy this. Worth Buying!

Summary: Good Thing CDs Can't Wear Out!
Review: I've had my "UpWords" CD for just over three (3) years now, and it's a good thing you can't wear out CDs because otherwise I would have worn out my "UpWords" CD a LONG time ago because I play it so much! Too bad it's been discontinued because I'd like to get an extra copy! I have other CD-ROM games, but I never play those. I just keep my "UpWords" disc in my PC's disk drive. I just wish Hasbro would come out with an updated version and that the human player could challenge the computer the way the computer can challenge the human player, that's all.

As for Ms. Mary Landesman, speak for yourself, Ms. L., because this CD-ROM version is neither an insult to Hasbro, nor is it an insult to "UpWords" gamers. At least THIS "UpWords" gamer doesn't find it insulting in the least!

As tesla in N.C. has no doubt found out by now, since she wrote her inquiry over a year ago, yes, this CD-ROM CAN be played on Windows XP because that's the OS I have, too. The only thing I had to do to be able to play it on XP was to run XP's compatibility function to get the game to work on XP. Once I did that, it's run just fine.

Summary: Cool game.
Review: If you like the board version, this is just as good, if not better. It's fun, and I can't think of anything negative about it. Hard to find anywhere other than Amazon.

Summary: Great & Addictive Word Game
Review: Originally released by Milton Bradley as a new type of board game in the mid-1980's, "Upwords" is an interesting word game much in the same tradition as Scrabble. The only thing different is that the player is able to stack tiles on top of other tiles to create words. Hence, that is where the game gets its' title.

I recently purchased this game to see how it differs from the original board version, and it is pretty much the same in game play, with the exception of the tiles and board itself. If you're an individual who loves addictive word games such as Scrabble or crossword puzzles, than "Upwords" should be added to your software library. It is great, addictive, and entertaining and I can guarantee that you'll enjoy playing against others (or the computer itself). Hasbro Interactive has produced yet another winner in their popular board games-turned-computer games (e.g. "Life"; "Jeopardy"; "Candy Land"; etc..)series!

Summary: An insult to Hasbro, an insult to Upwords gamers
Review: The jewel case (CD) version of Upwords is crushingly disappointing. I honestly don't believe the developers could have done a worse job had they made a concerted effort to fail. The look and feel of the game can best be described as annoying and cheesy. Game play is ridiculous - you don't place the tile, you place the shadow of the tile. Further, even when the skill level is at its highest, the game poses no challenge - even to novice players.

It truly discredits the Hasbro name that such a shoddy product was released and is completely unfair to those who purchase it expecting quality goods. Folks, this game is dumpster diving.

Review: This is the best game in the world. I really enjoy playing it. it is alot of fun.

Review: Upwords is my favorite game, so of course I had to get the CD. It's great and I would definitely recommend it.

However, I also think that a few improvements could be made. First, the dictionary that the game uses is not changeable. That is to say, there's no way to add or remove words from the dictionary, nor is there a way to specify an alternate dictionary. I think this should be an option in a future version. Second, I would like to see an option for a 2D board as well as the standard 3D board. Third, I would like it if there was a way to annotate and save past games, similar to the various chess games on the market. This would allow for the setup and analysis of previous games in order order to improve one's skill.

Aside from the above, I love the game and look forward to playing it whenever I get the chance. 4 stars.
