Summary: Hours of fun!
Review: I got this for my daughter ...and she has thoroughly enjoyed it more than the roller coast game! It's fun and exciting to build your own zoo and with expansion games it's evn more fun! The game is great as you have to keep all the animals and guests happy. And if they are not happy you lose your previlages to purchase new animals, you don't get funding, people stop coming to the zoo and you slowly but surely (and in some cases very rapidly) lose money. It's a great game to teach children about responibility as far as caring for animals, managing money, etc. It's not as if they can just build a cage, stick an animal in it and that's it. You have to provide shelter, foliage, rocks, grass, water, snow, toys, food, animal trainers, etc. And you need maintenance workers to repair fences, clean the grounds, etc. It's a lot of fun and you can spend hours on this game. I can honestly say that I've enjoyed it just as much as my daughter. I started playing it about 10 at night and it only seem like 30 minutes went by but it was already 1:30 in the morning! So time really does fly when you are playing this very enjoyable and what I believe to be a good educational tool for both children and adults!...

Summary: My Favorite Game On My Computer
Review: This is still my favorite game to play ater owning it for almost half a year. Yet, there are stil pros and cons to this game that I wish I would have known before I bought this game, here are most of them:
Pros:
-The increasing number of animals and scenerios will keep you interested for a long time.
-The trees and other things will keep you trying new things to make your zoo look beautiful.
-(If you're like me)You will have a blast setting lions and bears loose in your zoo and watching them attack the guests.
-You can choose two different ways to play; open ended where your imagination is the limit for your zoo, or scenerio where if will give you goals and you will have to reach them, yet even on scenerio, if you do not reach your goal, you have the option to play open ended.
Cons:
-Without the expansion packs, the regular animals will become a bore after about 2 weeks
-A lot like rollercoaster tycoon

I did buy both of the expansion packs, but I got Dinosaur Digs included with my Marine Mania, and the price of Marine Mania was really small considering how often my CD is used between me and my friend. The only thing I want you to keep in mind when buying this is that nothing is as great as it sounds, although this game comes close. :)

Summary: Very, very, very fun!
Review: I don't usually write reviews but I just wanted to let parents know how great this game is for kids. My son is 9 and LOVES this game. He's learning and doesn't even know it! He has to manage space research what foods and environment each animal needs. I am buying another one for his best friend's birthday.Amazon also has the BEST price for this game.

Summary: Excellent game for fans of simulation games
Review: If you're a fan of simulation games, such as SimCity or the older Sim games, you will enjoy this game a lot. The goal is simple, to run a successful zoo by keeping the guests and the animals happy without running out of money. If you are someone who needs an ending point or a way to "win," you probably won't enjoy this game as much. The scenerios add a bit of a goal and are fun for when you want more of a challenge.

It's also a great game for kids. It has a very realistic feel to it, and gets you thinking about animal habitats. It also allows for great use of creativity in planning the zoos. The addition of dinosaurs and marine animals makes this set even more appealing for children.

Summary: Love this game, don't build a too big park
Review: This game is awesome. It is also good for people who like to manage money, zoo rating, animal happiness, and guest happiness. It is very hard to make money if you have a large zoo however, unless you have happy people. Remember, happy people give a lot of money in donations and buy a lot of stuff!! I once had a zoo that made 20- 30 thousand dollars a month off of donations alone! One thing that can get tedious is keeping the animals happy, and building perfect animal exibits.

Summary: 3 levels of fun
Review: We got Zoo Tycoon for our 8 and 10 yr old girls, who love animals and have been very pleased. The youngest loves the animals and learned much. The oldest likes controling the world and I have become a player on the economics front.

Lots of intangibles being taught to unsuspecting kids. Kindness, care for animals. Costs and project management. Economics, marketing. Awesome.

Summary: An OK Tycoon Game
Review: My brother got this game a year or so ago and I like to play it. In the game you have the option to play a freeform game, which is a game you don't have any objectives or anything, and just build a zoo from scratch, and having the option of spending up to $500,000 (of course you can cheat and use the unlimited money cheat...=P press 'shift' and '4'). This is one of the advantages of this game. You can also do the tutorial and scenario games, which as in many of the other tycoon games, you need to complete certain objectives in a certain amount of time. (For example one of these objectives might be "In 18 months, achieve an average exhibit suitability rating of 85, an average guest happiness of 80, and process at least 1 baby White Bengal Tigers, Okapis, and Snow Leopards.")

Playing the freeform games are fun, because you can set your own options. Like in the other tycoon games, you can do research, edit terrain, build paths, buy restaurants and stands/stalls, build attractions, adopt animals, and more. The paths tool is also more efficient; you can drag your mouse and construct a 30-foot path instead of the standard 5-feet-at-a-time that you have to do on Roller Coaster Tycoon. You also have a very wide of animals to choose from; such as savannah, rainforest, coniferous, deciduous, grassland, ocean, fresh-watered, and highland animals. There are even unicorns.

One of the biggest disadvantages of this game is that you have really stupid guests (as another viewer mentioned), and that the game itself is hardly challenging (at least until you work on the 'advanced' and 'very advanced' scenarios). The guests in this game are really mindless and hard to work with, especially at the advanced and very advanced scenarios. It's a pain in the royal behind really, because they will walk of paths and wander so deep in your huge park that you can't find them, and they will starve and be unhappy and bring your guest happiness rating down, and you need ratings of at least 93/100 to win.

The graphics in this game are really pretty. There's the nice Thompson's Gazettes, that spring around happily in the exhibits, and the bears that roar and run around, and when you're constructing the exhibits the terrain blends together quite nicely.

But I would recommend this for an animal lover. You learn quite a bit about animals' habitats. But me? Pick up any of the Roller Coaster Tycoon packs instead. You might find them to be a bit more fun.

Summary: Terrific game
Review: This is an awesome game. If you like zoos, you will love this game. You can design the layout of your zoo with single animal or multiple animal exhibits, and you can decide where your recreation areas are for people.... just thinking about it makes me want to play. There is so much you can do with this game, and with the user-created objects that you can download from the Internet, you can easily have a profitable zoo that looks amazing! If some of the zoos I've created were real, I'd never want to leave. I give this game two thumbs up.
