Summary: Strengths and Weaknesses
Review: The title Airport Tycoon brings its main strength in graphics. The three dimensional world in which the game is played is in some respects phenomenal. The panoramic world can be rotated a full 360 degrees.

The sound effects are realistic while inside of terminals, thought they are nothing to speak of. They are simply computer-generated effects with common airport phrases.

Game play is very confusing at first as the manual provided is very meager, and the tutorial does not teach very much. When starting, a choice of countries and cities is presented with a difficulty level for each location. After choosing the location, three plots of land are available at different distances from the city, and higher or lower prices.

Following selection of a land plot and purchasing the land, an empty area is shown, and the airport creation process begins. To open the airport, at least one runway is necessary, along with a terminal. (I tried creating a cargo airport, however this did not work.) Once the necessary elements are in place, you press a button on the toolbar to 'cut the ribbon' and open the runway(s) for use.

In building the airport, you have a certain quota of cash to spend, and then you must rely on the income from shops and flights in your airport. This is realistic, however loans can not be taken out. Another issue in constructing an airport is the limitation on the number of runways that can be built a maximum of four. Take Chicago O'Hare airport for example, it has seven runways, one which is 13,000 feet long. The game does not strive for realism in that or several other respects, but in some it does.

Airline contracts will be presented, and as the manager of the airport, you must decide whether to take them up or not. Runway slots for each flight must be assigned. Businesses will start to have an interest in placing their shops in your terminal's retail areas. I found this part most confusing.

Once you accepted the contract and were given the tool to place the shop, it didn't always place. This resulted in misplaced franchises, which could not be moved. Once the retail area is full, you continue to receive contract requests, which must be declined. After declining these, the same businesses apply. This is quite a hassle and a nuisance. Additionally, shops continually send complaints that there is competition to your pager. In the game, your pager is how you are alerted of new contract proposals, problems, etc.

Another issue with the game is spelling. Many things in the game are spelled 'creatively' as a young child would spell in grade school. This I think is extremely annoying. The developers have not released any sort of patch for any of the problems in the game, and it does not appear that they will.

Overall the game is very unique. It is one of a kind in providing an environment to simulate airport management and construction. It has a great future should the developers wish to upgrade and enhance the product where necessary.

Summary: Really Cool
Review: The game is really cool, and it was exciting to see a concorde land, but the game takes too long. It took me two weeks to get to the year 2000, at full speed. The graphics are second to none. There are a lot of cool options like different camera views. In all it is a great game.

Summary: Good vs. Bad....
Review: I bought this game at wal-mart (for half the price...), and I've done the tutorial, read the instruction book, spent a few hours trying to play...not very entertaining. It has BASIC graphics, very simple (not user friendly, basic programing). Very difficult to master, but if you've got the time, you could possibly enjoy this game. One of the other reviews said looking online for strategy guides, again...how much time do you really want to spend playing this game?

I buy a lot and play a lot of these 'tycoon' or simulation games, and I can tell you by experience, this game would be at the bottom of my list of favs. Hope that helps!

Review: I've always enjoyed visiting new airports, and I've wanted to try designing, decorating, and managing one myself, which is why I jumped at the chance to play a game like Airport Tycoon. Now, for the game itself. Originally eleased in Europe as Air Mogul or Airport, Inc., the game features excellent graphics, intimate detail, and extreme challenge. Being a detail freak, I loved this. The game spares none of the details of managing an airport. Unfortunately, European games typically come with almost no documentation, and the manufacturers failed to change this for the American release of this game. For a game this intimately detailed, that's bad. It's been very frustrating trying to get it to work and figuring out how to design the airport well, and I STILL haven't figured it out. It's not a bad game, but unless you're highly skilled at simulation games, I suggest you try RollerCoaster Tycoon or SimCity instead.
