Summary: Just an exceptional golf game. Nothing can compare.
Review: I have played a lot of golf games in the past, but NOTHING can compare to this. EA Sports has done an AMAZING job on the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series. The gameplay is exceptional. The course designs and layouts are VERY realistic. From TPC at Sawgrass' famous island green at the 17th to Pebble Beach's 18th hole. The golfer's motions in the different swings are timed very well. With 15 different courses to choose from, it also gives a very wide selection in courses ranging in difficulty. And if you expand with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2000, 2001, and their expansion packs, it makes the selection even larger. An imperfect golf simulation. No other golf simulation can compare to this series. And at an amazing price. DEFINITELY worth buying.

Summary: Great Game...UNTIL IT CRASHES
Review: I like the PGA Tour series, don't get me wrong, but I'm returning this one. It's just too frustrating to have it crash on me all the time.

The simulation is excellent. It is the easiest to play, but can be made just as challenging as the others if desired. It allows you to easily shape your shots. The graphics are superb and the picture-in-picture camera is the best one around (you actually get to see your entire ball flight in detail). Putting is not quite as easy, but still easier than the heinous putting in Links. The course selection is one of the main features, there's like $... worth of add-on courses included. It's a good golf game.

The problem I ran into is that during shots (and only when the ball is in motion, nowhere else in the game), the game freezes up my computer and I have to push the button, turn it off, turn it back on, run ScanDisk, and start all over. Let me put this in perspective. My computer hit store shelves after this game came out, was a high-end machine back then, and exceeds all the required AND recommended system settings. EA seems to have made a game too fast for machines that didn't even exist when the game was developed.

I've had a long and painful email exchange with EA tech support. Their response time is horrendously long and the "support" is the same info on those FAQ pages. I couldn't even manage to register an official complaint. I was told I'd be contacted with info on how to complain, but that was over a month ago.

In the mean time, the game is still having trouble running. It's a shame that such a good game has such a fundamental problem. I'm scared to play it fearing crashing of my system yet again. Apparently Tiger Woods 2000 has similar problems. I've never had these problems in the past (I love their NHL hockey series). They're apparently releasing a new Tiger Woods 2001 soon. I hope they don't make the same mistake thrice.

Summary: Great golf simulation¿AWESOME bargain!!
Review: This has GOT to be one of the greatest computer game bargains of all time! For the price of one bargain-priced game, I got two CD-ROMs. The first contains the golf simulation "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 1999," which comes with two golf courses and four golf pros (Including Tiger Woods). The second CD-ROM contains an additional 15 courses and 8 pro golfers. Total package: an awesome golf simulation, 17 premier golf courses, and 12 add-on golfers.

Needless to say, The "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 99" simulation is fantastic. (In fact, in some ways, it plays better than its successor, "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2000.") As with all Electronics Arts sports simulations, graphics are brilliant. During setup, "Tiger Woods 99" will automatically look for 3D video drivers and install them if present. I have the option of using 2D graphics if I so desire. On my machine, I prefer 2D graphics; they look great and work considerably faster than their 3D counterparts.

Game play and ball physics are very realistic. Since I can set the level of difficulty, I can make the ball act with complete predictability (the easiest mode), or make it behave like it would under tournament conditions (the most difficult.) The "swing meter," club selection method, and method of aiming shots took a little getting used to, but once I got the hang of them, my game definitely improved. (Not that my game is that good yet; I'm still learning and taking a lot of "mulligans.")

There are enough options to make the game play just the way I want it to. There's even a "power meter" option, which allows me to see how high to swing the club. I can play several modes. Stroke, best ball, and tournament are my favorites.

I've been a computer golf addict for many years. "Tiger Woods PGA Tour collection" is the best golf simulation I've used yet - much better than "Links LS 1999." It's the easiest to set up, the most realistic to play, and...well, the most fun!

Summary: Best Golf Game by a mile.
Review: Tried several others and this one comes up best in many ways. Have followed the real PGA tournaments and the course graphics are outstanding and recognizable. Players very realistic also very like the pros they represent in temperment as well as play. We play a tournament game almost daily and love every minute... even in the bunkers... or lakes... ;O] Highly recommended to anyone who loves to play golf.
