Summary: I Prefer 1602 A.D.
Review: Although the game has better graphics, 1602 A.D. was more fun. What I loved about 1602 A.D. was a map creator. I was very dissapointed to see it was not in 1503 A.D. The game looked so good unfortunately it wasn't. It's is also way to hard. I suggest you buy 1602 A.D.

Summary: Slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Review: As a big fan of strategy games, I was excited to see 1503 A.D.. I bought it and followed the tutorial, thinking all along of building an empire and once again ruling the world!

What I found was one of the slowest moving games ever. I mean slow, man. Take it from me, I have spent hours working on a Sim City, or building just the right combination of strength in an Age of Empires. This game is so damn slow that it takes days, literally days, to get any real excitement out of it.

The basic premise, as far as I can tell, is that you need to gather a few islands to farm and develop and then start trading with yourself and other civilizations. Building your empire and shipping tobacco, whale blubber, and the like to each island. Taking the money you earn to build things. This is a sound concept and could have been much better if it didn't feel like it was truly "real time".

The problem is that it takes so damn long to develop, it just becomes a hassle, and you just wait and wait, and nothing more happens. So it's kind of like a slow Rails Across America with ships not trains, and Age of Empires without the fear of getting invaded.

Overall, there are a lot more interesting games out there, why bother waiting around for this one to get interesting.

Summary: i thought newer was better?
Review: At first I admit the game was hard to understand, but when you know how to use everything its quite fun..Anyway..

To radioactive_foxhound from British columbia: quote-"...build a thriving colony over many many days of playing..." Many days?? I can build a thriving colony in like 2 hours, you just need to know how to play the game. Oh and the only reason that your boats are "harassed" by pirates is because other computer players can pay the pirates to go after your boats, just like you can pay pirates to protect you etc. Like I said you just need to know how to play the game (which you obviously don't).

To Tiffany L Savage from Chicago, IL: If you had read the manual you would know how to build on other Islands. Like I said before LEARN TO PLAY THE GAME, before you come here and trash it and make it sounds like it sucks. And I can grow tobacco (which isn't that hard- put a plantation, add some tobacco plants, and put a tobacco place, and wha-la), and my sheep do just fine. Oh and depending on the level you play depends on the amount of cultures/computer players there are (on the level I play which is Count-2 stars- I think, you get 4 other computer players and 2-4 cultures and then you)

To General Pete from SC: $42?!?! Where are you buying your games? I got mine for like $25 Canadian (which would be like on $10 American) when the game had only been out a week.

To Didier MILLEROT from Bruxelles Belgium: This game is to hard for 5 year olds, if you couldn't tell...

Alright I'm done my ranting and raving. I thought the game was great you just have to understand. I also can't wait until I can get the expansion pack.

Review: basicaly 1503 ad isnt that fun. its to complex and to much stuff that dosent do much but you need to continue on in the game. 1602 ad is a really fun game if you buy this and dont like it there is a good chance wat you wanted is somthing like 1602 ad.
1602 is just cpmlicated enough and has many challenges like pirate muraders and valcanoes, and drought, so if you dont like it you should give a try to 1602 ad. why becuase its better.

Review: Build through power, build through peace and build through pure frustration. This game is so complicated, that its a drag to play. First of all I'll start by saying that the graphics look spectaculaire. Secound of all it takes for ever to do any thing in the game. You'll try to explore, manage a growing empire and build a thriving colony over many many days of playing. You'll constantly run into money problems and to this day I still can't figure out how to set traid routs. Dureing this game you will rarely get attacked on land and your traid boats will conatantly get harrsed by pirates and your enemys. This game looked good on the rack in the store, but when you start to play it you'll relize that the game isnt that great. If you want a good stratigy game, get strongholed or age of empires.

Review: Everyone keeps griping about this game, but please. Those of you who are, here's an idea, try playing it. :)

The New World was not created overnight. Anyways, I can start a mission at 8pm, and by 11pm, I'm a Merchant.

Let's allllll relax, and actually try it out.

Summary: Don't say I didn't warn ya...
Review: First off let me just say I am an avid gamer, I love all kinds of games as long as it captures my interest and I am easily captivated. This game installed into my computer and got shelved within a week of playing it. This game had the potential of being something great but lacked heavily in the graphics and interface department, someone over at EA should get there butts chewed for this. At first glance it's rather deceiving unless you have a place to play it first before you buy it, this game will rob you of your money, I'm glad it went down to 20 bucks because like the idiot that I am, I brought it when it first came out. Even then it's not worth spending 20 bucks for it. Let me start by saying how the game actually felt like when I first played it, I had a confusing time with the interface, now I have played strategy games and SIMS like Age of Mythology and Casino Empire and for love of me I could not figure out what to do with the controls. I had to sit there and read the manual word by word in order to understand it. After several hours with the manual I began to see the potential this game could be but spending so much time on the manual I was hoping to see awesome graphics display or something but all I got were a few cut scenes that an an old game like Starcrafts cut scene could've easily put this game to shame. I don't understand why the developers would make a game so confusing for the average person and not compliment it with nice graphics so they could at least keep their interest at bay until they figured out how to play the damn game. It's obvious this game isn't intended for the norm. I believe rocket scientist or brain surgeons would love this game because it'a a challenge just to figure it out. In a word "stinks"! And to charge 30-40 dollars for this game when it came out is absurd. ..., for every one good game EA puts out there, there are 10 that's sure to suck. Last time I'm buying from them. Consumers you have been warned.

Summary: Not bad, just nothing new
Review: Games involving the colonization of the American Colonies are not a new idea, but I can at leat respect a company with the guts to try.

Two main things

The graphics are great, but there is really no SUBSTANCE to the great graphics.

The price is outragious for what you end up getting although this game is fun, it is not worth 42 bucks.

You have too options here
1. Wait for the price to go down on a pricey but rather expensive game

2. Break out the old computer with Win 95 version 4 and play some "COLONIZATION"(You old Sid Myer fans will know what I mean).

Summary: Heres my take...
Review: Heres my take on this game:

Pros,

-Graphics are very very good
-The sound is Awesome
-Skill is acutally required to play it(unlike other stratagy games like Lord of the Realms, age of empires and Empire Earth)
-There is always somthing to do in it (just to name a few; fighting, economy building and city building)
-There is a manual included (so its not one of those games that installs the manual on to your PC)
-Games that you play in it can actually last a very long time
-Tons of different climates (ice, forest, jungle, desert)
-Huge maps

Cons,

-The game is very hard
-you will almost always find your self low on money or even bankrupt (unless your a vetrain player or some PC nerd)
-The makers at EA Games made the game play way to complicated. for instance, in order to get a jewellery stand, you need to find a gem deposit and a gold deposit. then you need to build a gold mine and gem mine on to the deposits. this lets you build a Goldsmith, which makes the jewellery, leting you make a jewellery stand. what makes it really hard is that gem and gold deposits some times arnt even in the game or are on a far off island thats to small to build on, forceing you to trade with computer controlled tribes who some how have the things you cant seem to get.
-everybody says and tells me to read the manual to learn how to play the game. I've read the manual from front to back hundreds of times and i still cant figure out how to play it to the fullest. I seem to always become bankrupt or get so frustrated with the trading, deplomacy and money management that i end up curseing at my PC and wanting to burn the game.

All in all, this game is good. If you like overly complicated games that take some time to master at, then this is for you. But if your like me and like to sit down for a nice relaxeing game of empire building and dont want to be bothered with the extreme realism that this game send your way than maybe you should find something different.

If anyone who reads this can help me out in any way on tips or hints on how to play and manage through this game, PLZZZ contact me at
