Summary: DO NOT BUY USED VERSIONS OF THIS GAME
Review: If you are thinking of purchasing a previously owned version of the game, make sure that the CD Key has never been registerd. If it has, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY. The CD Key is tied to a personal email address and password. There is no way to undo it. I learned this the hard way.

The game is worth paying the extra money for a new copy. I have enjoyed the improvements. I played a free trial upon release and recently purchased the full version. The improvements are vast.

I still like AC1 and play that too, but this is a really nice alternate game.

Summary: AC 2 is nothing like the first one.
Review: I played asherons call 1 for the better part of 3 years. awsome game. the game play is what made it so fun, there were no limits on how skilled you could become at combat. eaven tho hit points wher involved there wher limitles techneques to takeing down an oponent. the spells wher projectile aswell as arrows. dodgeing was something u had to be good at to servive in the more advanced parts of the game. ac 2 was nouthing like it. most of the spells are allmost impossible to dodge game play is completely diffrent. you cant turn and run away in a battle with out considerable delay the higher lvl you get you do not become faster. running betwine places if needed takes for ever. fellowship is apsolutely essential in the lower lvls. u cant go solo at all if u are to make any probress. it is a completely diffrent game. more like dark age of camelot.
it just doesant give you the freedom that the first asherons call gave you. outher then these things. the graphics are outstanding and realistic in every way.

Summary: Gamer
Review: This game has changed a lot since release, there is now a 4th landmass, new skills available at higher levels and the level cap has effectively been removed. Populations, while not huge are steady and there is never any difficulties finding others to fellow with.

This game is only going to get better, there is plenty of quests/content to get started with, and with new content being added every month, the world will continue to grow.

There are bugs, as there are in many games, but they are being addressed over time, and none have a significant impact on game enjoyment. Many gamers are disillusioned by the early problems expereinced by AC2 and continue to give it a bad wrap - they dont realise, its not the game it once was.

Summary: Update on the reviews
Review: I saw some outdated reviews for this game, so I think I should put up a more updated one...
===================================================

PROS:
*Aside for the absent of stats, the game does not differ much from AC1. It still has the great allegiance system. In fact, you can tune in to the allegiance channel and look for hunting parties, trades or simply advises!

*Many quests to do. Some of them are for soloing while others were best done as a group. And its fellowship system is much better as it shares XP more evenly and you can buff others as a group!

*Programmers listened to our advises and worked very hard to make this a better game. For example, they fixed the chat system so now it works great. Also, they removed the lvl cap so now you can go beyond lvl 50.

*Since the merging of the servers, now there are on average 1000 people on line most of the time in each server.

*Ability to ride across the land

*Ability to own pets (if you are a ranger).

*Option to do PvP and KvK.

*Players in the game a generally nice -- unlike everquest where no-one is helping other =)

*The game is relatively inexpensive

*Finally, there has been rumors saying that the gameplay will become more and more like AC1 in the future.

============================================================

CONS:
*Lags are bad, and too much rubber banding. To avoid this, you have to really turn down the graphic.

*Monsters drop bad loots. Most good stuff you have to craft yourself.

*No shops, lack of NPCs.

*They change the skill tree and skill stats in the last update, which required me to re-distribute all my XP's. Luckly, they give you skill reset so you don't have to untrain anything. (You did get 50,000 gold to compensate for this trouble though)

*Lack of visual effects for melee characters.

*Maybe it is just me, but with melee paragon trained, I still cannot hit monsters often enough.

*Lack of character design.

*Instructions on some skills are not detailed enough.

======================================================

In summary, I think this game is becoming more and more like AC1 with better graphics, and it is definitly a good game to buy. It would be even better if they have the stat system of AC1, however.

Summary: It's fun for a bit....
Review: I'm not even sure why it was named "Asheron's Call 2". The only similarity it bears to it's predacessor is a few names. (But where's my tuskers turbine?!?!?!) If you do get this game, keep in mind that it's not "AC part 2", it's more like "AC, the lighter side of Dereth". I played in beta and up to a few months ago. The game is very fun for the first few months, but loses it's steam quickly. You start off in a rich graphically stunning environment and catch on very quickly to the skill and combat systems. The skill tree almost reminds me of Diablo 2... However, after a while you begin to feel like a child being led by the hand, and wish for more complexity in the skills system. Some of the skills are down right useless, also some classes for that matter. You advance through the levels very quickly. The quests are fun, if you can manage to find anyone to do them with. However, alot of the quests (Vaults namely) cannot be repeated. The overall map is rather small and restrictive for my liking. You seldom find an area where you can just run off in any direction and explore. You are constantly restrained to following a general path by oceans or mountains. It shouldn't take you long to hit lvl 50, which is the cap. I have heard that they are implementing a "hero" point system as a way around the level cap. I'm not really sure when they will be introducing that but sounds interesting.
Overall, it will entertain you for a bit as long as you're not expecting AC1 with pretty graphics, but expect to get bored very quickly. Better luck next time Turbine.

Summary: This town ... is kinda like a ghost town
Review: "Say, where is everybody?"

This review can save you a lot of time: This game is dead, dead, dead. Nobody on it, little to no meaningful interaction with those on it. If you pick a side, expect to get steamrolled by a maxed char pretty quick. The quests can be entertaining, and it might not be so bad if there was a decent population, but the lights are on, and nobody's home.

Summary: A Lot of fun - but DON'T BUY A USED COPY!
Review: This game is a real hoot. I never played Asheron's Call 1, so I guess I'm not expecting this to be a big sequel. I think it's excellent on it's own merits. It's fun, it's addictive.

WARNING - DON'T BUY A USED COPY! The CD KEY can NOT be transferred, and WILL NOT WORK. Once the CD Key is registered, it cannot be transferred, and you will have wasted your money. You will NOT be able to play the game if you buy a used copy.

Summary: It started off well
Review: I played this game from beta up until May of 2003. You'd think that after being in retail for 7 months that things would have been going great. Unfortunately the opposite holds true. With every patch added the chat system became worse and worse. The lag (from reports of those in my guild) was astonishingly bad. The devs whacked us with the 'nerf' bat under the guise of 'balancing' so many times that my level 50 mage was a complete waste of time.

I have watched the boards for patch notes and the like to see if the game was going to get better and it's not. The implementation of useless items/skills is making everything worse.

I so hoped I would play this game for years. However, it has been ruined and the fan base has deserted. What a shame.

Summary: Well DUH
Review: For all of you guys out there who changed from AC1 to AC2 expecting it to be the same great game, don't. AC2 was made in the same world as the previous but it's an entirely different game. You can't switch expecting it to be the same as the previous because it's not. This was Microsoft's attempt at another style of MMORPG. I encourage all of you who have tried it and didn't llike it to give it another try. But this time try not to think of it as a sequel so much as a new game. That will make it so much more enjoyable.

Summary: Doesn't cut it
Review: This game... Augh is a waste of time. Wow look at those graphics. Graphics only make a game look good. Asherons call 1. Thats a game worth playing! Anyways AC2 is very stupid and is a huge set back because its almost impossable to be a gimp A.K.A. having a bad template. NO STATS. That totaly ... How can they not have stats? Tisk Tisk. This game, take my word for it, isn't worth it. Yes I have played it. Haha, theres only 22000 ppl on the server TOTAL. With 9 servers. 22000/9 = 2444 total players in each world. About 100 playing average each day. Comparing that to ac1. I cant get the total players in ac1 but average 750 players in each world. 8 worlds. 6000 people daily. Go figure. I have asked SO many people in ac1 if they played ac2. usual anwser... Yea, i didn't like it... They then came back to ac1. What im telling you is that if your goign to buy a MMORPG game GET AC1 AND !!!NOT!!! AC2. Ac2 is very limited. The max lvl is 50. Max skill lvl is 50. Ac1 no max lvl and max attribute is 430. Which is almsot impossable to reach. AC1 has just as many skills as ac2 (not sure seems so as i can recall) and has attributes. AC1 has a huge huge landscape. AC2 has a very small landscape. You could run the whole map in 3 hours. In ac1 it would litraly take you 20 hours. They are even discussing to make another expansion pack for a ... game (AC1). Well geez. I dunno what else to say but anyways im just trying to save you money from evil ac2 lol. Instead buy a ... Dark Majesty. Plz Plz Plz listen to me. ;) dont take the same road I took. Btw im back playing AC1.
