Summary: Casual MMOG excellence
Review: UO, AC, EB, EQ, DAOC these are all MMOGs, comparing the initial 12 levels of DAOC I can see playing and trade skilling is a lot easier and intuitive than the other games. EQ I've played several times but always at 50+ I get sick of having to always look for people to group with.
This may happen to me in DAOC later on however right now my enchanter can solo and I barely have to med unlike a L12 mage in EQ.
If you hate meding for several minutes after killing one dark blue con then DAOC is for you.
UO was fun but is terribly outdated now. EB, AC, AO just didnt' do it for me. Can't write a review on those since I didn't play em that much to say anythiing.

Summary: A comparative review.
Review: I hate writing reviews that compare one thing to another, but since I a have experience in both Everquest, and Dark Age of Camelot, and since Everquest is the MMORPG groundbreaker, I'll have to use it as a basis of comparison.
With that being said, let's take a look at how these games match up and differ.

1) PLAY-TIME: EQ requires an enormous commitment to get just about anything accomplished. Most players in DAOC that approached the game with the same type of commitment reached level 50 in less than 6 months. DAOC requires far less game-time to reach the high level content than EQ does, so it caters much more to the casual gamer, or the more adult gamer who has to work, spend time with children, etc.
2) DOWN-TIME: To me, one of the most frustrating things in EQ is the horrible amounts of time sitting, waiting for a camp spot to respawn. Though there is downtime in DAOC, it is GREATLY reduced. So much so that the camp will probably respawn before you are even ready to pull another monster.
3) PURPOSE: The purpose in EQ was always to get XP, so you can hunt harder mobs, to get loot, so you can get more XP, etc. etc. DAOC is much different. There is purpose in gaining levels. You are working towards the end-game goal. RvR! PvP with a purpose... what a concept.
4) QUESTING: having a quest journal in DAOC makes doing these much easier. No longer do you have to fill up pieces of scrap paper with obscure NPC names, and cryptic lists of items. It's all there for you anytime you need to see it.
5) GRAPHICS: This goes without saying. DAOC blows EQ out of the water here. Spell effects are fluid and gorgeous, the environment is rendered beautifully and the character models look like real people, not cartoon characters.
6) GUI: I always found the GUI in EQ to be obtrusive and aggravating, even with the upgrade in Planes of Power, I still found it to be in the way 90% of the time. DAOC has removed the bulky obtrusive GUI and replaced it with a sleek, easily navigated system that takes up next to no screen space. EQ should take a hint from this. Cleaning up the GUI is something it desparately needs.

The only real problem I had with DAOC is only being able to have 4 characters per server. But, this is getting revamped before Shrouded Isles goes live. They are raising the character limit to 8 so all us old fogeys can try out the new classes without deleting our characters. DAOC also now has 2 PvP servers where you can kill anyone you want (besides guild and alliance members) and Geheris will go live soon, which is a coop server. No PvP at all, and the ability to adventure in all three realms. In response to some of the other reviews here:
1) Mob models have been drastically updated, so mobs do not all look the same anymore.
2) Ambient sound has been added, making the realm feel more real and enveloping.
3) You can now duel people in your home realm to the death, with no fear of XP or Con loss.
4) Advanced tradeskills of spellcrafting and alchemy have been added, allowing far more customization of armor and weapons.

I fall somewhere between the casual gamer and the hardcore gamer, so it took me about a year to get my character to 50, but I also have 4 characters in the mid 20s, so my time was split. I plan to play this game for a long time. I haven't given up EQ completely, since it is the classic mother of all MMORPGs, but DAOC, in my opinion, has the best designed system and gameplay I've seen in an online title. It's definitely worth a try.

Summary: Horrible game
Review: this game is terrible, the graphics are rediculously outdated and the gampelay is horrible. i must recommend that you play Asheron's Call 2, or Asheron's Call 1 both of which are unbelievable. Do NOT buy this game.

Summary: BEST GAME EVER
Review: This is easily the best game i have ever played. Great graphics, sound, and game play. After8 months of playing Daoc i haven't been bored at all, there are many choices for you from when you start your character from when you reach level 5 and up. If you DO get bored just and start to think that this is a game where you just run around and hit things it's not, wait til level 10-20 or so, it gets alot better. The RvR feature is great. Note: this game ends up to be very time consuming.

Summary: Addicting!
Review: I came to this game after a year of EQ and 2 years of Asheron's, and this was a welcome change! Fantastic graphics, great quest system, and MOST of the people playing are really cool. Although there is lots to do as a solo player, most of the fun is done in groups. So being an idiot does not get you anywhere here like in other games :) So many critters to hunt and different character types to play. There is an excellent crafting system for weapons, armor, and now Spellcrafting and Alchemy. Also, the Realm vs. Realm fighting is a total blast! Nothing like running around in other realms with your friends hunting down the enemy! Oh yeah, and horses to ride :) There are some issues that need to be resolved, but Customer Support is superior and bugs/issues get taken care of promptly. If you need an online addiction, look no further.

Summary: Visually Astounding and Amazing Gameplay
Review: Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC) is the best MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game? I have ever played in my entire life. If have tried out DiaBLOWS, EverBORING, and Asheron's YAWN and all of them were pretty bad.
DAoC really impressed me, the graphics are the best I've seen in a while. They make you feel like you are in a huge living enviroment.
Also, you can choose from about 10 servers which all have hundreds of people playing on them simutaneously. UNLIKE Diablo II, you dont join a player made server with only a few people in it.
Mythic Entertainment is constantly adding things into the game to make it even better, and Mythic has highly devoted staff who moniter the servers. (So guess what CS and DIABLO II fans... there are NO hackers! Absolutely none! occasionally someone tries to hack, but they get caught and are banned from the game.)
And adding to this already jampacked, uber, awesomely addictive game is a EXPANSION PACK. Yes, yes, yes, Mythic is release Shrouded Isles to add new races and classes to the game.
I hope you enjoy it! Err... I know you'll enjoy it! l8ter

Summary: mythic should die
Review: This stupid game took away from other mythic games.. Mythic entertainment is unreliable and will desert this game soon enough just like they did all their other games when this one came out..

Summary: Despite its flaws
Review: this is a very good game. Many other people have pointed out the good things about DAoC in other reviews, so I will leave that part alone. One of the bigger flaws in this game is you are very limited in how you can train your charachter and remain effective. Leveling is also very tedius as you progress because there is not a great varity of monsters to hunt in this game. Mythic also tends to over do game changes to the extreme when adjustments are made.

Summary: Mythic ...
Review: The game play is excellent nad the comcept increadible... But as the game progressed Mythic took it upon themselves to 'balance' the realms. This envolved giving other realm more skills and changing the rules in others. Unfortunately, they did not do this mathmatically but rather but who complained about what the most. Unfortunatley Mythic has now ruined the experience for all game players. I would not even waste my time with this game. Be patient and get Shadowbane (when it is released), Earth & Beyond, or go for Star Wars Galaxies when it is released. You will have a less frusterating day after some good game time. Mythic DAoC expansion is coming out.. Unless you heas otherwise hit the VN Boards before purchase.

Summary: Some People . . .
Review: I'd just like to say that this is a GREAT game, and although the people say it gets boring lvling, there are OTHER things to do besides lvling. And to me, i don't think that once you get to lvl 50 it gets boring. You can always make another character, get your epic. And BTW, the people who said the game was boring once you hit 50, most likely haven't gotten a character to 50. The expansion will make the game even better than it already is.
