Summary: Nice expansion for a nice game.
Review: Ruins of Kunark is a pretty nice expansion. The graphics are better than anywhere on the other three continents (except maybe for the city of Paineel on Odus), and there are some wicked MOBs to fight for any level. Everquest in general is a pretty nice game. Nice graphics, nice items, and I like the fact that every class has to group with others to advance to higher levels (except for Necromancers, of course =P ). I'd give the game 5 stars, but there is one thing that bugs me. The game is a bit too focused on the Powergamer, and not nearly enough on the true Role Player. The only way to get any RPing done is to either play on the Race War servers, or play on Fennin Ro (the unofficial RP server). Otherwise, it's a fun game. Oh, and did I mention that it's addicting? EQ is the virtual version of crack. But with a little will power, you can overcome it.

Arganos Shai`tan- 52 Dark Elf Necromancer

Taluvan Pinewalker- 35 Wood Elf Ranger

Kraile Fumblednote- 26 Human Bard

Summary: EverQuest means forever finding a good quest...
Review: Before I start, I'd like to say to shoppers that you need to read the low star reviews to learn the truth of the game. I find the low star reviews much more truthful, and for Everquest, it's the same complaints, meaning it isn't coming from just one.

I tried playing for the 8th time, hoping I'll get into it this time. I stopped the first day. Why? Just by looking at the screen, I see 15 monsters roaming about, and I see no quests on the screen. What does this mean? 1) It's unballanced with quests and combat, 2) It's a hack-n-slash game.

I can't roleplay in the game, even in the roleplaying server. Your judged by how you look, and that is bascially who they know you as. Not that you're a lvl 50 warrior who has two children that are lost. And you're looking for them. Problem is they don't exist!

People argue its more than hack-n-slash, but you can quickly realize they don't want to face the truth that hurts. All I know is I wasted 12 dollars again due to all the continuous hype.

But if you love killing monsters, from day 1 to infinity, get the game. Just don't expect to roleplay or expect any worth-while quests.

Summary: ALL THE BAD THINGS YOU'VE HEARD ARE TRUE !
Review: Every bad thing you have ever heard about Everquest is absolutly true. Save your time and money for more interesting and fun things to do in life. Everquest is boring as hell. If you like killing the same monsters over, and over, and over, and over, buy this game immediatly. Other wise find another game. I see high lvl players camping in front of monsters waiting for them appear so they can kill them again, and again. How lame. Makes you realize that no matter how high of a lvl you reach you will be doing the same things you were doing at lvl 1 . Killing the same boring monsters over and over and over etc .........

Summary: Well now, don't be hasty
Review: Friends. I am a longtime MUD (multi-user dungeon player) I jumped on the Everquest train early on following a frustrating experience with the initial graphic online dungeon offering Ultima Online.

I have played on and off for a year now. I like: The enforced cooperation. Many of the people I've met online have come to the darkside with me and play Asheron's Call. But it's nice that you have to guard yourself at every moment in this game. Unlike the mean-spirited play popular on Ultima Online or even Diablo on Battle.Net, Everquest pretty much enforces people to get along. (To all the player killers out there in other gaming worlds: games suck donkeys when a person starting out can't even get going if you kill them to satisfy some unfilled need in your heart because your milk money was stolen too many times. Nuff said.)

I hated: The inconsistent servers, god-awful customer service, arogant GM's, and BORING game play. Once I chased the carrots in front of my face long enough I realized it was hanging on a string on a stick attached to my back and I stopped chasing it. Leveling up is the sole goal of this game, and once you've sweated bullets to gain the cool spells, weapons, etc the pay-off is like eating overcooked pasta. Who cares.

As to the expansion pack: It does open up somme nice new areas but in the end despite the neat whistles and bells ROK is destined to become as tracked out and uneventful as plain old everquest.

Save your money and either wait for the next big thing, whatever that is or play Asheron's Call.

Summary: 5 Stars for the First Four Months, 2 Stars Thereafter
Review: The first couple of months you own this game (EQ) its like the world has stopped. You check online sites like Everlore.com and EQvault.com for additional information. You run around killing creatures, going on quests, talking with other characters. Man, everything is great in the world (everquest world, that is. The real world is just a distant memory). And I have to be honest, at first I thought this was the greatest gaming experience out there. The world seemed endless and full of potential. I wanted to try out different characters and races and journey to all three/four of the continents. How cool is it to be a barbarian shaman with the ability to cast spells and to fight, or to be a dark elf necromancer running around in Toxx Forest. There are both non-pvp (where players can't kill each other unless both characters consent to a duel or they enter an arena) and pvp servers (where, depending on the server, you can kill other characters within a certain level of your character, or only characters of a particular race--there is supposed to be a race war on one of the pvp servers). (I recommend the pvp servers for more hard core roleplaying, although as I later discuss, there isn't as much in this game as I hoped). Ahh, Evercrack (as its affectionately known) was my life.

And then, all the "little" problems caught up with me and the game began to annoy to no end. The list became too numerous: Lack of real roleplaying by the participants, horrible lag problems for non top-of-the-line computers, loading of zones that take seemingly forever (in EQ, the land is divided into zones, and when you go from one zone to another, the game takes a while to load the zone onto your computer; one city, Freeport, has three zones! UGH!), the fact that many of the really neat creatures or places or items are "camped" to death (which means that you have to wait your turn--believe, that can take forever), the "newbie" areas suffer from overcrowding.

Basically, the game became a huge time suck. Even relatively minor actions take a very very long time. EQ is definitely not a game to be played in short blocks of time. Counting load times, and the time necessary to recover your body and items, the average session was about 3 hours minimum. And then come the experience penalites. After a certain level, when you die, you lose a certain percentage of your experience. In other words, I spent three hours gaining a "bubble" of experience (you need five, if I remember correctly, to get to the next level) and then lost that bubble when I was killed by a mammoth in Everfrost. Well, guess I blew those three hours.

One of the strengths of EQ, especially when compared with Asheron's Call, is the interaction with other players. Essentially, the game is like a chat room with graphics. Which is cool when you become "friends" (in an internet sense) with other in-game characters.

However, this strength can also drive you nuts after a while, especially when you get into a zone and people are completely out of character and shouting nonsense to each other. Made me feel like I was back in high school, sometimes.

Also, don't confuse this game with a roleplaying experience. After a few months, the pattern of the game falls into: go out, join a group (which is necessary because some creatures can't be killed one-on-one), camp a monster or an area, hack and slash, repeat. There are plenty of quests, but most of them still focus on going out and killing something.

Hey, its hard for me to review this game because I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread for about 4-5 months. And then, things turned sour. Not all at once, but gradually. Hey, fans of EQ are fanatical (I was one of them once) and they have reason: EQ is addictive and can be a lot of fun. But, I am reviewing this game after having played it for almost a year. It starts off wonderful, but then it becomes more of a pain. So, I give it 5 stars to start, then 2 stars for the last couple of months I played it. Overall: 3 stars.

Summary: Everquest, The proS and coN
Review: Everquest is by far the most fun, most original RPG of its time. It was before ashrens call, before diablo 2, beforew all the WANNA B everquest. This game hold ober 400,000 active people willing to pay the 10 dollars a monht because it is so much fun. I personally have been playing for about 2 years, and of the people i know in real life and through everquest, most people who bought the game more than 2-3 years ago, still play it. It is an everchanging world that will keep you on your toes, this is truly a game to buy. The one, and there is only one, con is that it is some what addictive. It is such a good game that it may consume you. It has me and people i know, but as far as im concerned that is fine by me.
