Summary: LAME
Review: Go out and buy City of Heroes. It is a hundred times better. The only people who could possibly like it are the ones who dress up to go see the movies.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: No FUN
Review: This game is interesting and addictive at first and then your realize things.

The Dev's keep changing things in the game, and for the most part they are worthless or make things worse. Like they came out with a publish called driod invasion, big whoop, all it did was allow a few droids to attack, and the current droids are weak. Nothing cool like Deakas (destroyer droids) or IG-88 stlye .
Rebels whine toooo much, ya try to role play a bit and act like the Brash Imperials from the movie and everyone starts whining and try to complain to the guild leaders.
These things highly Deter from the game and along with the lack of a good story, makes this game fall way short of any Starwars Fans expectations.

Summary: Mainly for Star Wars fans
Review: If you read all the reviews, you would see that there is a huge mix of opinion. Well, here's mine: If you like Star Wars and/or like being able to excercise a flexible gaming style, then SWG is the game for you. You would be able to switch professions if you don't like the one you started out with. Aside from the fact that it has great graphics, there are also a large variety of sounds and music. The controls are also pretty easy to learn and can also be customised to suite the player's habits.

A couple of downers are that after a awhile, one or two professions become a chore to grind through and those who don't really like Star Wars and are just in it for the game content, would probably rate this game around 2-3 stars. SWG is also not a first player shooter game, attacks and accuracy of the former are based on what skills you've learned and the weapon you are holding, or not holding. It's also (if you can call this a bad thing) extremly addictive.
Overall, the game is just over 4 stars, it's more like 4.3.

Summary: Good and Bad
Review: First thing this is my second MMPOG, the first was The Sims Online. Now on to the good and bad.

Good.
Good Graphics, everything looks like Star Wars, the music, the feel, players able to make and sell goods and services, money making is pretty easy wiether you hunt and sell what you get or make things for other players and sell for credits, most players I have ran into are helpful and will answer questions, good community feel.

Bad.
Grinding as was mentioned can get boring at times, combat classes are broken, there are Master Pikemen,Master Swordsmen etc, that feels more like a fantasy game than Star Wars, such as Sonys other game Everquest,a guy walking around wielding a warhammer and killing those with blasters doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

So far I am still playing it, new players might want to wait for the space expansion to come out, that should give it a more star wars feel.

Summary: Experienced Opinion
Review: I have been playing SWG for 7 months now, and have accomplished a large number of things in the game. In the pro column...I will say that SWG has spectacular graphics and sound. First rate and a nice addition to the next generation of PC gaming. Only one word is required to describe the scope of the game...Massive. Lots of things to see and caves to explore. Huge planets that can take hours to cross by speeder. As other people have stated, the game is addictive and is quite fun once you pass the "noobie" stage. Extreme amounts of customization in the way of choosing your profession, designing your character, building your own city, decorate your own house, get married, customize your droids and vehicles, and the freedom to change them as you see fit. Overall.. Meeting new people, and exploring will lead to SWG being a very rewarding experience.
The negatives are this...The methods you must use to acquire experience points can at times be quite tedious and down right boring. I would also agree with others that there is little to no "star wars" feel to this game. The background music and some points of intrest from the movies are all that earn this game its name. If you are looking for a SW game to be a jedi..this is not the one for you. It is extremely difficult to be come even "force sensitive"...let alone a jedi knight. You WILL spend months of your time to complete those tasks. If you are looking to fly through space in an x-wing, you won't find that here either. That option won't be available till Fall '04. Also Sony spends little or no effort in fixing bugs in the game or answering customer support. The effort is spent adding new content to the game that quite honestly does nothing but add more problems that go untouched for months. As a new player, and sometimes as an older one, you WILL deal with frustration, but there are people in the game that will help, you just have to ask.
The bottom line is that you have to take the good with the bad. The thing about SWG is there is no middle ground between the two.
The only way to be sure if you enjoy yourself is to give it a shot.

Summary: Pokemon Wars, not Star Wars
Review: My wife and I bought this and dove into the Star Wars universe full of hope and expectation. After all, what can possibly be lacking in anything with the Star Wars name?

Oh boy. Let me be a little technical first before giving my gut feelings...

The INTERFACE was good at first glance. Not great, just good. It could have been far better. Some controls can be re-written, some can't and some re-written controls interfere with others when they aren't supposed to. For instance, chatting was a chore if you attempt to rekey anything on the keyboard. You don't want to be involved in a CHORE when you're fighting, talking and trying to stay alive.

The PvP is jacked all to heck and back with just a couple of classes being way over-strengthed with "uber-rock-your-world-pwn" abilities and or equipment. There is no reason at all to engage in PvP unless you just want to hear the other guy scream obscenities at you. Plus, the game is overrun with pets. Don't bother picking a mano-a-mano fight - those don't exist. You have your pets do all the fighting.

The WORLD is limited. A handful of planets with an area mapped out on each. Plenty of room to run around, but not much out there. Most of your time will be spent in cities getting killed over and over in spaceport.

The GAMEPLAY is somewhat like AO. Players can take missions for money, exp and faction points. Unfortunately, the missions send you out to only 2 different types of mission points: either a metal outhouse with 3 guys around it, or a smoking pile of poop with several animals around it. The SWG game was bought from UO as the defunct UO2 system, so I understand, which is why the game is based on animals and skins and bones and gut puddings...

The CRAFTING is at first impressive. At first. Both I and my wife took up crafting when we saw PvP was so pointless that we had nothing left to do. Diablo2 made my wrist ache sometimes, but no game like SWG has ever jacked my wrist all to heck. You WANT carpal tunnel? Play this game as a crafter. And I macroed as much as I could.

The BUGS in this game have yet to be fixed... whole classes broken, whole faction perks broken, nerfs to anything that gets whined about on the official boards... what's the worst you can imagine? SWG has it.

If you like the rebels, join this game. Rebels rule every single world in the SWG and walk the planets fully declared. The Empire has absolutely ZERO ballz in this universe. The Emporer is wetting his robe.

Okay, my gut feelings... this game has been taken over by the Pokemon players. You want to PvP? Make sure you have some handy Poke-pets to whip out of your datapad and say "a". That's the game. There are hardly any droids to speak of and this is supposed to be Star Wars? This game is a joke. I watched Star Wars in its theater debut in the 70s. This game bears NO resemblance. Background effects of TIE engine whines don't count when the whole game is based on Pokemon.

But hey, that's the majority of the audience... kids that grew up with Pokemon and liked it. SWG is Pokemon in Space and it won't ever change.

Summary: Some good ideas. . . but
Review: Setting was great, character options and skill selection and reselection functions were very good as well. . . but who wants to spend 70 hours shooting womp rats or waiting for the computer slowed crafting to take place. This could have been the game for me, and would have been if I had no life, a mind that didn't mind repetion and enough money to have someone else hunt and craft in the endless loop of leveling. Social setting was good except for adolecent nihlists that didn't follow common courtesy.

Summary: Doesn't Target the Usual MMORPG Audience
Review: Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire divided comes off as an unusual MMORPG. It tends to attract a different crowd, which leads to the divided reviews it always receives.

Graphics - 4/5: The graphics are awesome, but you really need a high level graphics card to experience it at its fullest - as well as an overall top of the line computer so you don't lag.

Interface - 5/5: The controls are easy. Almost too easy in battles.

Sound - 5/5: For having a mass produced, horribly cheap soundcard, the sound was still beyond expected! The background music is enjoyable in the Star Wars world.

Battle System - 2/5: As someone else said, too little control in battle. Too automated to the point where a battle can become a menial task hindering your gameplay until you realize.. That IS the gameplay.

Experience System - 3/5: Logical, enjoyable, -- to the hardcore gamer. The experience system is a nightmare for the casual gamer. Since it can't please both players, it only gets a 3. (As a little background information, I'm a hardcore gamer and this system is challenging for me, but I like it. For the casual gamer, it has to be a nightmare.)

Story - 4/5: The story is excellent, well played out, and gives the user the feel that they are a part of the Star Wars Universe. Unique themed missions add to the experience, however the Points Of Interest (POI) system is rather redundant.

Overall - 4/5: Despite fallbacks when it comes to battling and the division between hardcore/casual gamers, Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided proves to have a substantial fun factor. Looking passed it's faults, there is the exhilarating excitement during faction raids and, in some cases, player city raids.

With the Space Expansion coming out soon, it's worth a try. Be careful if you're the casual gamer type. Mostly recommended for those between the casual gamer/hardcore gamer line for the most enjoyment. Check out starwarsgalaxies.com to look around and see if the game is right for you (of course, taking into consideration all points brought up beforehand).

Summary: No Point
Review: I played this game for 6 months and I mastered 4 low levels and 4 high levels and I was still a Newbie. No matter how high you get you'll never be a Jedi because Sony keeps changing the Jedi system. Your hit points always stay the same (die on day one by a bunny die on day 360 by a bunny). So many people macro and dump proffesions you can never get anything worth using. The game economy is run by players, great consept but you every seen a 15 year old run a company. What is the point in crafting? To get lots of play money. What are you going to do with all those credits? Buy weapons or armor that last a week then you got to buy more. Armor is anouther thing... It doesn't work! You see hundreds of people running around the game in boxers because armor... yes, DOESN'T work. Play another game if your over 20. If not please stay with this game your friends are playing Sim economy (for a day or so). I admit it was fun in the beginning, but not worth my time. Have fun playing it I'm going back to DAoC.

Summary: You don't even have to be at your computer
Review: I played Star Wars for a while, and there were a few things that just turned me off. One being the fact that you can set up very complex macros for your character. So complex in fact you don't even have to be at your computer. You can just turn the game on, start your macro and go to work, go hiking, read War and Peace or anything else you want. You aren't required to be there to actually participate in the game. Secondly no matter what you do in the game, you'll always be a secondary character. The game still revolves around the main characters of the story, but hey it is Star Wars and it wasn't you that blew up the Death Star. In fact, you never will be because the NPC's in the game are more important than you. You do quests for Vader, Leia, C-3PO and the others to improve your faction with their cause, but the progression of the storyline is set in stone. You can open up a possibility only of a subplot, but you can't explore the option anymore than that. You'll always be second string to the main NPC heroes and villians no matter what your actions are. Also if you aren't into PvP, you can forget about participating in the Galactic Civil War altogether.
