Summary: Splinter cell
Review: Splinter Cell is a game in its own unique class. It is the only game I have seen that is a realistic stealth game based in the near future. I first rented this game got stuck and gave up. A few weeks later I picked it up at Best Buy. I beat the part I was stuck at and went on to fall in love with this game.

You are Sam Fisher. An Elite member of the 3rd Echelon that uses stealth and ingenuity to overcome obstacles to complete his missions. You are battling the middle east and even the US in this game.

Summary: Good fun.
Review: When I first started playing Splinter Cell I didn't really like it but after a while I came around and I couldn't get splinter cell pandora tomorrow in my comp fast enough :P

I thought it was very linear and I felt confined by the whole "one way through" thing. Eventually, I began to feel like it was part of the plot because i figured most "secure" locations would have very few weaknesses.

In the begining I was also a little dissapointed with the whole "don't kill anyone but the target thing". I was used to just fragging everything that moved and now I'm surrounded by all these nice little potential targets and i'm not supposed to kill ANY of them??!!?? Now i'm completely bored with the games that only requre a finger permenantly attached to the fire button to win. Mass murder is good and all but it's definatly better to savor your kills and interrogate and force them to co-operate. And it's good to be able to use a little strategy.

I liked the story a lot too. It was very captivating compared to most of the games i've played recently. The movies gave the game the sence of urgency and importance that make your missions seem worth while and rewarding.

Summary: Good graphics, good gameplay final payoff a letdown
Review: It takes some time to master the controls as there are many. of particular frustration is the left directional button is used to turn on/off the night vision goggles, I found myself trying to evade enemy fire, only to turn on my night vision goggles and a take one for the team. Ouch!

However, once you get past these kind of quirks, Splinter Cell does offer some fairly intense stealth situations that make the game entertaining and satisfying when you make it through a particularly frustrating section.

I only have two knocks on the game, number 1.) the game is EXTREMELY linear, i.e. you can only take one path to complete a level with very little variation. And 2) The final payoff, when you finally win the game is a HUGE letdown. Granted, you're playing the role of an undercover stealth agent who shouldn't be basking in the glory of his/her victories, but we're talking videogames here, I want big hollywood productions when I win the game. This victory felt like a retirement party. I found myself saying

Summary: ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!
Review: IF YOU LIKE A LINEAR GAME WITH NO THOUGHT, NO OPTIONS, SOME JERK SHUTTING YOU DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF PLAY BECAUSE OF YOUR NOVEL THINKING, THEN THIS GAMES IS FOR YOU! WORK THIS GAME LIKE MAX PAYNE OR SOLDIER OF FORTUNE AND IT WOULD BE GREAT. A CLEAR PIECE OF CRAP AND HEADED FOR EBAY

Summary: Stealth Action Redefined
Review: Its the year 2003, in response to the growing use of sophisticated digital encryption to conceal potential threats to the national security of the USA, the NSA has ushered forth a new dawn of intellegence-gathering techniques. This top-secret initiative, dubbed third echlon, marks a return to classical methods of espionage, enhanced with leading-edge surveillance and combat technology for the aggressive collection of stored data in hostile territories. when intelligence deemed critical to national security cannot be obtained by traditional means, third echlon is granted clearance to conduct physical operations.its existance denied by the U.S. Gvernment, third echlon deploys units known as splinter cell: elite intellegence-gathering forces consisting of a lone operative by a remote team. Like a ilver of glass, a splintr cell is small sharp and nearly invisible. March 10, 2004: The CIA contact NSA officals regarding the loss contact with agent alison madison, a cia operative monitoring widespread communication shortages plaguing the former soviet republic of georgia. a second operative agent blaustein was inserted into georgia capital T'bilisi to locat agent madison, only to drop from contact seven days later. fearing for their lives of american agents compromised at the hands of suspected terrorist effort, third echlon has activated splinter cell operative sam fisher to locate the missing agents and evaluate the situation. you are sam fisher. you must leave no trace of physical or political map. remember" although killing maycompromise secrecy, the choice between leaving a witness or a corps isno choice at all. you do not exist. you are a splinter cell.

Summary: Tom Clancy Enters the Third-Person Action/Stealth Genre
Review: If you played Tom Clancy's previous games, you'll know that most of them were first-person tactical shooters. The Tom Clancy name takes a different approach with Splinter Cell and allows you to play a game heavier on story and arcade action. If you ever played titles such as Hitman or Metal Gear Solid, you already know exactly how the game works. If that's the type of game you enjoy, I definitely recommend you pick up Splinter Cell because it's one of the best games in that particular genre. I've never really been a big fan of those types of games so I found the game average but I'm in the minority as a lot of gamers enjoy these titles. If you're the type of gamer that usually only enjoys fast-paced action games, you probably won't enjoy Splinter Cell as much as others. This game requires stealth and slow methodical operations instead of fast hand-eye coordination. I also didn't enjoy the story that much but I can see why many people would. If you love Tom Clancy novels, in particular the ones with John Kelly, the ex-special operations soldier turned into a CIA operative, this game is for you. For me, Splinter Cell was an average game, but that's just my two cents, many people love this game and it was so popular, the designers are already working on a sequel. This game was released on all gaming platforms and that might be one reason why I don't enjoy it as much. The controls and inteface seems more suited for a console gamepad and anytime you create a game with weapons and soldiers on the PC, you have to compete with all the great first-person shooters on the market. It also lacks any type of online options. For games like these that have quality stand-alone (not online) stories and missions but no online multiplayer or significant mod community, I usually wait until the price drops because they don't last as long as other titles, but only you know what type of gamer you are and what price is acceptable for you.
