Summary: Most disappointing game I've played in a long time
Review: I bought this game based on the great reviews, but I was very, very disappointed when I finally played it. I'm surprised this didn't come in a set of 3.5" disks instead of on a CD. If you like playing games that look like they were made in 1990, then this game is for you. Everything about this game is cheap and behind-the-times. Navigating one full screen at a time (instead of actually "walking" from place to place" severely detracts from the game's realism and playability. If you want to waste a few dollars on a game you'll only play once or twice, I suggest you buy this game.

Summary: Great Spooky Fun
Review: I bought this game just to try something different. It installed easily and has (knock wood) never locked up or crashed. There are lots of locations to explore and the haunted atmosphere is great fun. This is a great one to try with a candle burning and all the lights off. It's easy to get started, but the puzzles are still challenging. A great buy for anyone who enjoys a mystery. It's like stepping into an old fashioned thriller. No blood & gore just lots of thrills & chills.

Summary: Dark Yawn
Review: I had very high hopes for "Dark Fall", after reading many reviews which hailed the game as being everything from "bone chilling" to "frighteningly haunting". But in all honesty, I found it to be too short, lacking in plot development, and not nearly as "bone chilling" as it could have been.

First of all, to love this game you really have to love the "Myst" style of gameplay, which I'm not a big fan of. For someone who considers the "Gabriel Knight" series, "The Longest Journey", and "Syberia" to be the best adventure games of the last decade, "Dark Fall" is in a completely different style. Dialogue is minimal, there's almost no character interaction (save a brief encounter with an unseen lad named Tim at the beginning of the game), and audio ambience is limited to random ghostly noises like whispering and knocking.

When it comes right down to gameplay, though, that's where "Dark Fall" is truly lacking. Obscure puzzles, constant note-taking, and too many "dead end" objects that you can examine but not add to your inventory or put to good use made finishing this game a frustrating task. But even with these obstacles, I finished the game in 5-6 hours, which made all those pages of notes seem like a waste of time. For a truly incredible adventure game, try "The Longest Journey", which offers MANY hours of gameplay, lots of character interaction, and absolutely NO note-taking! If you can't live without trying "Dark Fall", wait until it reaches the bargain bin. For 5 hours of gameplay, $20 just isn't worth it!

Summary: A perfect game
Review: I loved this game! Unlike some of the others who criticized this game, I don't mind taking notes when I play a game. I didn't find myself writing down a lot of unnecessary information - mainly what stood out in each of the rooms that were explored and the names and symbols that are needed to solve the final puzzle. By taking my time in each location I really didn't have to run around from place to place. I liked the fact that I had to explore all the little details in each locale and take note of important clues.

The navigation is really easy - just point and click. This is the best type of navigation because it allows the player to take their time. One writer criticized the fact that one has to place the cursor in the correct place to open a door - come on! How hard can that be? Another person said that the puzzles had nothing to do with the story - I think we must have played different games since most of the puzzles reveal the names and symbols that are needed to finish the game. To me that means that the puzzles have everything to do with the story. Another reviewer said that the graphics looked like something from the 1900s. Since this was a ghost story taking place in a hotel from the 1940s, I wasn't bothered by the graphics. In fact the "grainy" look made it seem like an old movie or photograph.

I cannot think of a single bad thing to say about this game. It was a great way to spend a Sunday while the rest of the people around here (Door County, Wisconsin) were watching the Packers play football.

Summary: Mind-Boggling and Arm-Acheing
Review: I played this game after my older sister played. I listened in on it, but didn't pay attention to what was on the game. I thought I would try my hand at it on my computer. Two days later after finishing the game, I don't even want to look at it again.

The graphics are okay, the sound effects are done really well, but for the most part, ARRGGHH!! My arm is acheing after all the click, click, clicking around. Once I had got to the end, I was just about hitting my head on the wall, because of all the stuff that I had to get, but didn't have just to solve the last bit of it.

The story had promise, but there was an awful lot of useless information in the game that didn't coincide with what was releavant to the game. If you want a good story try the Atlantis games by Dreamcatcher, even the Riddle of the Sphinx's were good.

I'm holding out hope that the sequel to this game is good, but we'll just have to wait and see what the reviews have to say.

Summary: Most enjoyable
Review: I really enjoyed this game because it is not linear in the strict sense that some games are. You can look all around and collect information and clues out of any particular sequence. I get really frustrated with games that require clues to be collected in a specific order. That is not the case with this game. There is also a character who "helps" out from time to time. When I got really stuck, there was a way of getting that help and the how of it was also a clue to be found. Great game.

Summary: well worth buying
Review: I really enjoyed this game from start to finish. the puzzles were not overly difficult and the storyline was awsome. it kept your interest thruout. Even when the game took you back to the same places over and over there were enough changes in events that it was not redundent. Would highly recommend this game to anyone who likes the advernture games with a bit of a spooky side to it.

Summary: Perfect
Review: I REALLY enjoyed this game. It is a first person exploration adventure where you come to know the 'ghosts' through the items that they have left behind - the same feel as AMBER. There is little direct interaction with characters. BUT, you do feel that you know them by the end of the game. The puzzles are well interwoven into the story and are challenging. There are LOTS of clues scattered around and I found note taking to be necessary. This game is so immersive that I even looked at my notes when I wasn't playing. The background sounds are EERIE and add to the suspense. I highly recommend this title to anyone who enjoys mysteries and suspense.

Summary: A Spooky Little Game
Review: I really enjoyed this game. It's not overly hard so even beginner gamers can get through it. And sometimes one doesn't want to play something that you have to think about too much. What I especially liked about this game was that it really WAS spooky. I just happened to start playing the game around 3 in the morning, had the lights off and actually had to keep looking behind me. I just wish the game had been a little longer.

Summary: Very Enjoyable
Review: I was looking for a puzzle game and spooky atmosphere when I came across this game. I wasn't disappointed. With a set of headphones and the lights down I had a lot of fun letting myself get caught up in the game. The puzzles aren't super hard. I only got stuck once. Some of the puzzles seemed a little dependent on how well you clicked your mouse instead of whether you actually could figure out the logic behind them which could get aggravating. I do wish the plot had been a bit more interactive. I finished the game without really being sure just what had happened to some of the characters.

All in all I would recommend this game. I find my biggest criticism is that it was really too short. I would have enjoyed playing it longer and exploring more of the setting.
