Review: "Blade of Darkness" is like a good steak; after the first bite, you just gotta have more. A good swipe of your sword; Claymore?,and your adversary totters, neck spurting type O, while his recently attached noggin goes rolling down the gutter, must be experienced. Very immersive. Nice special effects also, but takes a good 3D card, so be warned you may have to run this with most of the goodies turned off. Still, you won't be disappointed; it's one of those games that stands out and will have you up half the night. En Guard!

Summary: Awesome game
Review: Best game I've played since Thief. Very immersive. Amazingly detailed and beautiful scenery, great effects with shadows, water, and torchlight. Variety of special weapons to choose from - too many to carry and try out once you have a good combination. Also, each character type has preferred weapon type and special weapons for each type. Enemy AI is cool. Love fighting orcs and goblins they way they scream and yell before you finally lop off their heads! Only used walkthroughs to solve one puzzle and find 2 runes so easy to miss. Ending up modifying character last 2 levels because time to study. Only complaint is certain bigger monsters are too easy once you figure out weaknesses. If I had time I would play the other 3 characters.
All time great game!!

Summary: Good melee
Review: Blade of Darkness can be defined in one word, wow. This game is good in many respects. The best being it's outstanding environments. The lighting adds to this by casting eerie shadows through out the game. Excessive violence is another bonus in my view. I love the realistic melee attacks which send your foe's limbs and/or head flying, and fluid combo's help the realism. There are some drawbacks. Sloppy control over your character are one I have found to be a bit annoying, long load times when you die(there are no continues), and a lot of points in the game where you have to jump or die. Other than these few annoyances the game is solid.

Summary: Fantastic game! Even better on a pumped gaming system...
Review: Blade of Darkness is perhaps one of the few games that I can play over and over again, after already having beaten it. I haven't noticed any of the problems with controlling the characters that some have reported on this forum, but the game CAN be very difficult at times. In fact, I had to use the cheats AND read the walkthrough just to finish the game! BTW - in order to activate the cheats, you will have to modify one of the game files, which isn't a biggie if you know your way around files, but may intimidate those unexperienced with computers. Anyhow, if you have a pumped up system, this game is phenomenal - especially with surround sound. This game will take a long time to complete if you aren't using cheats. The best points of the game are the enemy AI, the ability to hack your enemy to pieces (beheading is a great finishing move), the graphics(check out the shadows, water, and the way blood spills down walls and other vertical surfaces!), sound, and the fighting system (after you lock onto an opponent, it's similar to playing Tekken - only very bloody). The bad points? Doesn't look as good on slower systems or at lower resolutions (OR systems which use slower GeForce cards that aren't fully DirectX compatible. If you have an ATI Radeon or GeForce 3, you won't be sorry). It would appear that this game was created utilizing newer graphics methods that older graphics cards may have a problem keeping up with. And unfortunately, when using each of the different characters, only the very first level is different for each, then they all follow similar paths/levels.

You will NOT be disappointed with this game, unless you have a slow system (may be choppy, or not look amazing)or are not familiar with or good at controlling characters in 3rd person mode.

Summary: live by the sword......
Review: Blade of Darkness looked set to achieve new heights in the fantasy/action genre. I must say I'm a little dissapointed. Although it excels in various departments,( the lighting and use of shaddows is quite frankly exceptional, and adds to the very creepy and atmospheric feel of the game) it is let down in some critical areas. Despite the importance of great graphics, it is gameplay and originality which makes a great game and Blade of Darkness has nothing we haven't seen in a dozen other action/adventure games. Climbing up walls and jumping over ledges may have been revolutionary before a certain Ms Croft arrived on the scene, but now it just seems dated. In fairness maybe I'm being a little harsh on the game, as I can't honestly say I didn't enjoy hacking the enemy into numerous pieces and duelling against the very good AI. I was just expecting the first true classic action game of the century and what I got was another fairly decent one to add to my collection.

Summary: Great, But Frustrating
Review: First off i Have got to say that Blade of Darkness crushes Rune. Blade of Darkness has wonderful combat methods, sound, graphics, and other things that make it a great game. Why I say it is frustrating is that there is no quick save. Also sometimes you just be walking and all of a sudden the walkway you were on will fall in. Automatically you die, and if you didn't save recently your pretty much screwed. Also there are some clipping problems, with characters arms and legs disapearing into walls. But the main problem of this game is it's frustration level, with the hit points. Blade of Darkness become's so annoying and frustrating because when an enemy has over a 1000 or more hit point's than you, than one must usually have to play that character over and over again because they keep on dying. I know it sounds like the game is not that good, from all the stuff above, but truly this is a great game with depth, amazing graphics, and other important attribute's that most game's come without. If you like 3rd person hack and slash action's, then this is for you

Summary: Simply Astounding!
Review: I bought this game without much review. I thought it may have been a mistake while trying to install it, but once I found the right resolution and began playing, Blade really started to shine! The game takes full advantage of current graphics card technology and processor speed. This does not mean a less-than-up-to-date system user will not enjoy the game's beautiful mapping and texture, though it would be wise to quit all running programs before playing (this should open up more RAM). Either on low or high detail, Blade is still stunning. Total immersion is inevitable when combining the expertly composed music with chilling sound effects that make your spine tingle. How wonderful to hear the footsteps and gunts of an ogre as he walks up and down the corridor. Try throwing a head or arm (from a shredded enemy, of course), and as he comes to investigate it, suprise him with a deadly and artful melee attack! As I speak of this scenario, one must quickly learn to finesse the controls. I do not find the character difficult to control at all. All the enemies fight different, so tactics used on a slow, lumbering stone golem will most definitely get you killed by a skeleton warrior. Gosh, they move fast! Character movement and control are MADE difficult if want to just run through every level trying to slash everything to pieces. It is not designed to play in this manner. The gameplay is designed for the player to be cautious and wary. Stop running, look all around, and listen to the surroundings (while enjoying the scenery). Listen to enemies lurking in the distance, wind blowing (which, by the way, does carry sounds further), and birds chirping. This may become time consuming, but the save feature can nullify some frustration (if you use it), and the player will appreciate the game much more (along with the fact that it took more than four years to make). One must develop a plan of attack before striking. As we in the military say, "know your enemy better than you know yourself". This strategy will help the player survive much longer. The fighting engine, besides the graphics, is the very essence of the game. Plus it is much more fun this way. Forget the cheats, too. Who would want to cheat on a game so easy to play anyway? Precision movement and attacks are paramount, but are they not in real life, also? I am talking about fighting a lot, but this is what the game is about. If you are willing to study your enemies' and master the art of one-on-one melee combat, this game is perfect for you. Blade is quite straightfoward, so it is difficult to get lost. There are not many secrets and traps, and even those are easily recognized if you pay attention to your surroundings. All things considered, this game is truly an awesome experience to behold.

Summary: Best game so far this year
Review: I can't think of a better feature in a combat game than to be able to ... up your .. while it's lying on the ground. Limbs, blood, and heads fly in every direction. Fantastic. In contrast to the previous reviewer, however, I was going to suggest that the game be a little more difficult.
