Summary: Too addictive for my own good...
Review: Contrary to what many say, and what I use to say, pay-to-play is definitely the way to go. It weeds out most of the immature children and maintains a lovely online community. The game it self is one of the most addictive I have ever played. With mass possibilities as to what you can be in the game (Warrior, Mage, Healer, Blacksmith, Tailor, Ranger, etc), you will find it is hard to get bored with this game. The online community you will find is one of the most lovely out there. The people are friendly and immaturity is highly frowned upon. People will give you a helping hand and if you have a want, there are many who will help you fill it. There are two versions on this disc, 3D and 2D. Many old-schoolers will tell you 2D is the way to go with less lag, but I prefer 3D and if you play, you will see why. Either way, you can't complain when they let you have your choice.

Summary: This game is great!!!!!!!
Review: I have no idea why but most of these responses are negative. I have been playing uo for about a week and i am hooked. I guess most of these people don't have a good enough computer to see the good quality graphics. My computer has no problems and runs the game very fast, whout any lag. Get a better computer and stop complaining uo is a great game.

Summary: Great Game To Play
Review: I have been playing UO for about a year now, I started out with Third Dawn. As for the 3d aspect it just about [stinks], and I have more than the minimum requirement, but I play 2d all the time so it doesn't matter to me. If others out there want to get into UO, id recommend buying LBR (Lord Blackthorn's Revenge) just for the simple fact that you are able to access all that 3rd Dawn 3d users can access (illshenar) in 2d without the extreme lag that is encountered with 3d. I myself am getting ready to buy LBR :)

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I recently upgraded to Ultima Online: Third Dawn, and was not at all impressed with the graphics or performance of this new client.

(For new players: the 'client' is the program which runs on your computer to show you what's going on in the game. All the actual information is stored on the server you connect to. Players using different clients can still interact with each other.)

Let me begin by saying that my hardware configuration is well above the minimum requirements. (PIII 800MHz, 448MB RAM, 32MB AGP video) Third Dawn runs visibly slower on my computer than the old 2-D client, with few changes to make it worthwhile. The new graphics simply include 3-D objects and lighting effects which are far from impressive. There are improved sounds, and the containers (backpacks, chests, etc.) are larger, making it easier to organize items within the game. Aside from that, the only real advantage to using the 3-D client is that you can visit the new lands (Ilshenar) In addition to the shaky performance, Third Dawn is filled with bugs. I encountered two bugs in my first hour of play.

Fortunately, the old 2-D client is included on the Third Dawn CD, so you are not forced to use one or the other.

My advice- do NOT pay ... for Ultima Online: Third Dawn.

Summary: Downgrade for UO
Review: I was "lucky" enough to beta this "upgrade." The promise of 3D graphics and new lands was very exciting...until I loaded the CD. I got it free, but like at least 90% of UO players, I kept right on using the 2D client. Why? Because the 3D graphics are incredibly ugly compared to the 2D graphics, which included art by a famous fantasy illustrator. The 3D versions which come with this CD look like a 10 year old with a public domain renderer created them. Only the spell effects are acceptable. Everyone I knew who betaed cringed when we heard it it was deemed ready for release. Since then, it has received many patches to improve the speed and to some extent the graphics, but you still won't be happy even after sitting through what I expect will be half an hour of patching. This edition is also out of date already, with the release of Lord Blackthorn's Revenge. Save your money and buy the new version if you are interested in 3D. If you are not interested in 3D, buy the Renaissance edition for under $(...) here. It contains access to almost all the areas and items. The items it lacks you can buy from players who have one of the 3D versions. Another plus if you buy the Blackthorn's Revenge version. It allows you to access the landmass of Ilshenar in 2D. Yes, EA apparently now realizes how terrible a mistake they made with this edition and is backpeddling fast to try and keep their majority of customers who preferred the 2D. The only reason to buy this CD is if you are absolutely sure you will be playing in 3D all the time and you already have multiple 2D accounts. Blackthorn's Revenge requires that you buy a different copy for each account you own to receive all the benefits.

Summary: Lousy avoid it at all costs
Review: Just a pathetic attempt to go 3d with UO. Bad idea gets worse. The game is so screwed up right now it will be months before they get it working again. Don't waste your time.

Summary: Ultima Online has run it's time
Review: Just bought this game after a few years of not playing. Three years ago I was absolutly addicted to Ultima Online and then I moved on and played Everquest for a while. I saw Ultima Online: Third Dawn in the store and thought I'd give it another try. This edition, I soon found, is slower and clunkier then the 2D version. After playing Everquest I don't suggest starting with this game. Ultima Online is a great game but like many classics it's time for glory has ended.

Summary: Eventually Addictive
Review: My boyfriend bought this game for me to play with him. Hearing him speak about the various abilities and play styles you were able to choose from interested me, and once I started playing it myself I became engrossed in learning about the different skills your character was able to choose from.

The 3-D client is slightly buggy and slow (I myself haven't tried it because my computer doesn't have the required hardware), but the 2-d/Renaissance version isn't laggy for the most part, only getting so if there are too many creatures or players on the screen at once. OSI is constantly upgrading and altering options within the game, and the scenarios they periodically publish to the gameplay keep the world from becoming stagnant.

A wonderful game, in my opinion, once you have learned enough about the world to be able to get around - for the most part - on your own. Working with other players is a must if you want to get the most out of the experience, and despite what some may say, the online Ultima world isn't densely populated with idiots and creeps. Good for those who can afford online gaming and can find amusement in MMORPGs.

Summary: WORST GAME EVER READ THIS
Review: This game started out being the best game ever created. Keywords in that sentence were "STARTED OUT" I was loving the game, getting rich about to get married and loving it all the same. As you most likely know this game is across the internet so like anything else that means it could get hacked and almost anyone who has played could tell you about there experience with that happening to them. In my case some loser hacked it and did some horrible things to some of my best friends. And got me to a place I wasnt aloud. Then whoever the heck it was decided to write me up (...) and now I am banned from the game until I can get the IP address changed but then Im not wasting (the money) so someone can take everything I worked my rear-end off and enjoy for themselves. Besides the fact of getting hacked, it isn't worth (the price). (...)DONT BUY WASTE OF TO MUCH MONEY GO BUY CIVILIZATION 3 a truly good game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Best game in world
Review: I love this game. It has al of the best creatures, Monsters, and animals. This is unlike any game ive played it has updated graphics and very well designed animation. I felt as if i was really there. My compliments to the creator. This game is easily understandable and can be operated by a fairly efficient computer person.
