Summary: Disappointingly Flawed
Review: After a month or so of use, I've found many conspicuous and a few not-so-conspicuous bugs in this version of Quicken which make it decidedly flawed relative to previous versions.

First off, the installer doesn't work on UFS partitions, although you can install the software by just dragging the Quicken folder from the install CD onto your hard drive.

Next problem is that Cmd-Q doesn't quit the application! It's hard to fathom, but true.

Help won't open (maybe related to UFS and locating the help files). One of my transactions mysteriously un-reconciled and the re-reconcile function doesn't work. Trying to add a new subcategory crashes the application. You can't automatically pay credit card bills after reconciling. Etc.

Oh, and it _still_ can't handle stock options in a reasonable way.

Summary: An excellent product
Review: As a long-term quicken user, I am pleased with this product. It has improved reports and graphics and still has the capability to track stocks and mutual funds. The cash flow report is always the most important part of quicken because it allows the user to track personal finances.

One small bug has always botherered me, however. For retirement accounts containing mutual funds, quicken adds all distributions to the account holder's basis. This is inconsistent with IRS practice, which is that the distributions are not taxed and therefore are not added to the shareholder's basis. This bug leads to some inaccurate gain and loss results for retiremment accounts.

Summary: Some pleasing enhancements
Review: At first glance, it's pretty similar to Quicken 2001. However, once you start using it, you'll notice lots of nice new features, particularly the way reports and graphs are generated. The biggest new feature is the new budget tool, which appears to have been totally rewritten from the ground up.

Nothing amazingly new, just refinements. But I'd say worth [price].

Summary: Better than the old
Review: Better than the old Basic...it does quite a bit more stuff and has the internet built into it. Easy to get around your accounts, and no issue uploading 4 years of data from the previous Win 95 version.

Summary: Glad they stopped selling it
Review: Do not pay for this. This came preinstalled on my eMac. What a waste! It often quits unexpectedly! I was using Quicken Deluxe 99 on Windows 95 and I never had so many problems as I do with this version. The layout is unintuitive, and nearly unusable. It spawns a new window for every account. There is just so much that I can't do in this version that I could on the Windows version. Customization is one. Another is that the reports are limited to 64 columns, I had hundreds of columns QD99 under Win95. I could understand if the current Windows version had extra features but this is 4 years later! How Intuit could release such rubbish baffles me.

Summary: Stay with MS money -- this thing is a beast
Review: I almost couldn't believe that quality control let this out of the door at Intuit. We bought two new OS X machines and are switching from Win 2K. Quicken seemed logical to switch to on the Mac. I heavily use MS Money 2001 on the PC and knew the switch would be easy.

This software has so many obvious bugs it's terrible -- dates do not work properly, you can't schedule bills for anything except 2020 !! (?), the columns aren't movable so that when you view a loan the column cuts off the year for the payment listing.

I tried very very hard to switch, investing approximately 25+ hours over the past week. I am sending this product back to Intuit for a refund. I'll be buying virtual PC and running Money.

Perhaps if you use your financial program to simply keep a check register it would be O.K.

Don't waste your cash.

Summary: Competent package.
Review: I decided to finally upgrade my old Quicken 98, which Windows XP does not like to well. I ordered Quicken 2002 basic and discovered some very nice feature and aesthetic updates. Also, I can now track my stocks and investments quite easily with this software. That is nice.

However, I could not upload my old info (5 years worth) into the newer version. That is a big disappointment, but I am pressing on.

All in all, this is a great way to keep track of your important finances like checking, savings, and investments. It has a great and easy to read chart on expenditures so I always know what I am spending my money on. I like this package enough because it was fairly cheap compared to the others, and I know what to expect from my good old quicken.

Summary: Should have stayed at Deluxe 98
Review: I finally bought a bummer from Quicken. After staying at Quicken 98 all this time, I decided to upgrade to Quicken Deluxe 2002. What a waste of money! I purchased this mess back in July 2002, and have already reverted back to the 98 Deluxe version. 2002 is a cluttered, user-unfriendly interface. It automatically creates a list of Scheduled Transactions (an unmanageable one) which you have to fight with to go away The list of annoying and tedious "enhancements" is too long for this format. STAY AWAY from this version.

Summary: Not good for Fleet bank customers
Review: I had a very bad experience trying to get Quicken to import my downloaded bank data. After several failed attempts to use the Internet setup assistant in the program, I finally switched over to trying to manually configure my browser (IE 5.1 for OS X) to recognize Quicken as the proper application for the .qfx file once it's downloaded. It's necessary to go to Quicken help to find out how to do this, and even then, you have to watch Explorer closely during download to get the proper MIME type.

After spending several hours trying to do this, the download finally triggered a launch of Quicken, and I was asked for a password. I tried all sorts of PIN numbers, account numbers, clearing out the PIN Vault, etc. No go. There's no hint on the Quicken or the Fleet site what to do about this, and I've logged way too much time on what should have been a simple import.
