Description:

ListAnything MobileDB is one of the simplest ways to track records and data on your PDA. Over 40 database templates are included, such as a workout log, a recipe book, and a movie collection. The application also includes prepopulated databases containing measurement conversions, airline phone numbers, and an emoticon collection with more than 1,000 entries. For the selective handheld user, or one with limited memory, we recommend doing a custom install and eliminating any databases that aren't of interest.

Creating a new database is very easy. With a little forethought and planning, we created a database of local outdoor activities, detailing contact people, hours, costs, and phone numbers. By default, the first field saves as the index field, an important feature to note when considering that only about three columns of data (depending on the type of data) can display while browsing your records.

While MobileDB is definitely a skeleton database application, we didn't find its simplicity cumbersome. You can modify column widths and labels easily, search globally to find a record, and beam entire databases to other handheld users. But most useful is the ability to sort each database on three fields, alphabetically, numerically, and in ascending or descending order. However, while it's easy to sort records, applying filters is not intuitive and we didn't find it terribly necessary on the small platform.

Logically, MobileDB makes itself most useful for all the little things that come up in life when you're away from your desktop--tracking your workout, settling bets on the Academy Awards Best Picture recipients, identifying U.S. presidents, or figuring out how to get ink stains off your newest shirt. For this, it's a great value and convenient tool. --Emilie Dirks
