Summary: The best development platform available
Review: Codewarrior provides an excellent deveopment platform for creating palm applications. The form designer is excellent and easy to use. Codewarrior does have it's quirks however. For one, it looks a bit funny (it was ported from the Mac version), so the look and feel doesn't quite match up with windows. Ocassionally while debugging with the Palm Emulator, you'll have to restart the IDE. These shortcomings are few, and are nothing that restricts development. Other IDE's try to circumvent the Palm API's (in C) to make development "easier". It's only a matter of time until you run into something that simply can't be done, and you return to codewarrior. The debugger is robust and allows for stepping, breakpoints, etc. The only reason I gave it 4 vs 5 stars is b/c of it's minor quirks.

Summary: All you need for serious Palm programming
Review: I had a wish to make programs for Palm handheld and to sell it. It was not possible to make commercial programs under GNU, as far as I know, so I asked at Palm development support about best and easier way to make Palm software. They recommended Metrowerks CodeWarrior as official programming tool. I saved a little money and bought it. And really, it is the best solution. I never dreamed that it could be so intuitive and easy to use. I searched the web for few days to find where it is cheapest and I found it at Amazon. I give it all 5 stars.

Summary: The best development platform available
Review: I have found this to be an excellent program for palm programming. Having looked around, it is essentially the best (and one of the few). The Constructor program allows for easy and professional creathion of "forms", and it is then easy to include them in your programs. The emulator (especially for mac) is INCREDIBLE, and such a time saver.

My one complaint is that the documentation is pretty poor. It took a bit of time to teach myself how to use the program, as the "instruction" books were useless. I had to do a LOT of self-instruction.

This is still THE palm programming environment. Nothing else seems to come close. If you're willing to put in the time to learn to use it, you won't be sorry.

Summary: Not much choice is the only reason to buy it
Review: If you are used to using modern programming IDE's such as Visual C++, you will hate using this. It's like going back to the coding stone age. It has a bizarro interface that some code monkey must have designed all alone in a closet 10 years ago. It doesn't look like it's ever been updated. NO automatic syntax completion... UGH ! C'mon, this is 2001 ! This means always digging through Palm's Acrobat Reader (ick!) files for the function parameters, etc. This will burn up some serious time for you, especially if you're learning. Online help ? Yeah right. You'll spend 1 - 2 weeks just getting this thing configured, and learning how to use it's arcane interface. But once you're going - as another reviewer stated - it has integrated debugging, etc. So apparently it's the best IDE for Palm development going. (sigh) I'm going to see if I can't configure Visual C++ to write the code, and just use this for debugging.

Metrowerks makes specialized IDE's that nobody else wants to bother with because of the comparatively small developer market - such as for game consoles, etc., so typically they're the only choice. 3Com now has their name on it, maybe they'll rework it and bring it into this millenium.
