Summary: Applications run smoothly.
Review: I bought Virtual PC 5 with Dos becasue I own several versions of Windows from 95 to XP, why pay the extra money? However loading your own OS was not as easy as hoped. However, once I figured it out (thanks to the help menus), I decide on windows 98SE, xp aparrently runs slower due to the OS being larger and 95 doesn't support USB. It runs MS office nicely and even Frontpage 2000. Don't try any games, this is not for that. If you need to run PC programs on your mac this is a great deal for a hundred bucks.

Summary: Works great, but isn't the newest
Review: Virtual PC 5 with DOS works great on both MacOS 9 and MacOS 10.x. It is ideal for people who already have a Windows license and just want Virtual PC without needing to pay for the bundled OS that comes with the other versions of Virutal PC 5. I've installed and used Windows XP, Windows 2000, Linux, and FreeBSD with Virtual PC 5 without any problems.

If you do install another OS using Virtual PC with DOS, I'd suggest that you also install the Connectix Windows video drivers (available with the Virtual PC 5.0.4 updater) for display resolutions beyond 800x600. It's still possible to use Windows without these drivers, but you may have limited display resolutions in the emulated environment. It's a little tricky to install; after updating to version 5.0.4, you'll see a little icon in the bottom of the emulated environment to the right of the printer icon. Click on it and then select "Install Additions".

Virtual PC 6 is out and claims to be slightly faster than 5. It might be worth getting 6 instead of 5, given that they cost about the same.
