Summary: poor support, extremely difficult to uninstall,
Review: I had been using mcafee security suite (VirusScan, Personal fire wall+, Privacy service) that came pre-installed with my Dell computer(free service for 90 days)and was very happy with the product until I tried to renew my subscription. My security index score was lowered because it said my product wasn't up to date, when I tried an update it said I was already running the latest version. I went to the customer support screen and they don't have a phone # or email address listed (nice support!) they only had a form you could fill out to email which I couldn't get to work, FAQ, and live web support. After finally getting the live web support to work I spent about 25 minutes talking to them before their network timed out (there was no connection problem on my end)and I lost the connection. It seems the problem was that I was supposed to uninstall the "trial" versions I was using before the download(even though they were fully up to date and functioning fine). Would it be so hard to let me know this ahead of time? After I lost communication with tech support I went online and found how to uninstall it myself (it was 4 pages of instructions!!) If you don't remove it the correct way it will stop your browser from accessing the internet (according to many people on discussion boards I read)Tech support never got back to me even though they had my email address.

Summary: Customer Service is An Absolute Nightmare
Review: I had lost my Viruscan CD and requested via their online customer service for assistance with a replacement copy.

After more than 2 months and series of very frustrating emails, I am still without a replacement CD. First it took more than a month for Mcafee to finally acknowledge my proof of purchase. And it's been nearly a month since they last emailed to say that issue is being looked into.

Often, when I send a reminder about my unresolved problem, someone new responds and asks me to fill in all the tedious details again to show proof of purchase. Then they forgot all about my emails till I emailed them again.

I have never in my life encountered worse customer service than that provided by McAfee. And when I checked on the internet, it seems that I am not the only one with horror stories about McAfee's customer service.

I have given up and will be buying Norton instead.

Summary: No problems with VirusScan Home 8.0
Review: I have recently purchased this product and have had no problems. It loaded easily and it works great. Just wanted to add my review because of the negative ones.

Summary: VirusScan, isn't it suppose to catch Viruses?
Review: I loved 7.0, but 8.0 can't do anything... worse than the crash prone QuickClean 4.0!

Summary: The worst $250 I have ever spent
Review: I thought McAfee was a reputable company before purchasing this software.

When I first installed the software, I had also changed several other items on my computer. I noticed soon after I couldn't log onto the internet. There were also little problems with Windows. About a month later, our hard drive died. We figured it was a few years old and maybe we had contracted some sort of virus.

Within a week we had a new clean hard drive and I began to install all of our programs one by one. After installing this software, I was immediately unable to access the web because my DSL line was busy. It turns out when I had installed the software it established it's own way of connecting to the internet. It also screwed up my Internet Explorer configuration and I am still trying to figure out how to reconfigure Windows so I can do simple things such as move items on my desktop.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Summary: I'm a believer
Review: I was considering buying this Version 8. I have Version 7.0 and have had no problems. But where there is smoke there is fire. I wonder if it has to do with the new Windows Upgrade from Microsoft. I THINK I WILL PASS ON THIS ONE. THANKS FOR THE ADVICE CUSTOMERS.

Summary: virus scan 8.0
Review: I wasn't sure which virus software to purchase there were bad reviews on this and the norton 2004.I went with this because it was cheaper, and I have not had any problems at all, It was very easy to set up and I don't get any "pop ups" like other people have said in their reviews.

Summary: DON'T BUY THIS
Review: I wish I had read the other reviews before I got this. I thought I was getting it for free with Tax Cut, but that was just a trick they pulled on me. The program kept dialing the Internet over and over. They told me the only way to stop it was to set my computer to never dial the Internet - that is just stupid. The technical support stinks, so I finally had to uninstall the program. I really resented the sales pitches with the program and on their website.

Summary: STAY AWAY
Review: I would advise STAYING AWAY from all McAfee AntiVirus products. It hogs up to much resources on the computer. It makes way longer boot up time. And to make things worse.......They cut off my updates after only 8 Months. I paid for the 1 FULL Year of updates. I emailed them but they could care less. I am now using EZ Armor AntiVirus & Firewall. They work great and boot up time is way faster. STAY AWAY FROM McAfee !

Summary: Could the customer service/techs be less helpful??
Review: I've had this installed on my computer for a few months. Every once in a while it tells me that updates are available. When I click to update it tells me I'm not authorized to view the information. Sooo...I use their "chat" to talk with a tech to find the problem. After wasting over an hour with one tech, he gave me a list of instructions that disconnected me from the chat. Tried again a few weeks later, and the chat techs told me I needed to call customer service (after about 45 minutes). Called C.S. (on hold for 30 minutes), they wanted me to call tech support (2.95 per minute!) I said no, they gave me to a supervisor who told me he would send me the instructions to fix my problem via email....The email I received was a generic form mail which told me what I already knew, that I should have been given options when installing that I was not...So here I am again, with software I can't update and without the patience to try to deal with these idiots again...Ugh. I think I'd rather take my chances with a virus.
