Summary: They want your Money!
Review: I bought this product because the box says "Burn your videos onto CDs for playback in most DVD players." When tried to do this, a window pops up telling me I have to buy a ... plug-in for MPEG1 or MPEG2. I am very upset. The box also advertises downloading free video clips. If you try to do tis, you are solicited to buy more software. There is nothing "free" about his product.

Summary: Good product but not enough!
Review: I bought this product just a couple days ago at local Comp USA sell out. I didn't really spend two much money on that except the sales tax and rebate stamp. I am currently a Pinnacle 8 user and was very curious about this product since I have been hearing this product for a while. I agree that Movie studio has some features that Pinnacle 8 don't have. However, pinnacle 8 covers most of the features of Movie studio. To pay another $30 for the VCD plug -in doesn't make sense to me either. It is a good product but may be comparable to Pinnacle 7.

Summary: depends on what you want ... great tools for power users
Review: I purchased the product hoping to burn family videos to DVD. I found that you had to purchase the MPEG add on to do so. I also wanted the ability to add menus to the DVD so it doesn't play like an old fashioned video tape...the product doesn't do that. I found that this product does not offer any more functionality more than Windows Movie Maker which is available for free download from the MicroSoft site. I'm sending the product back.

Summary: Screenblast MovieStudio vs. SonicFoundry VideoFactory
Review: I purchased this product after doing a lot of research to determine if the MovieStudio (MS) version of VideoFactory (VF) is the same as SonicFoundry's (SF) version of VF. The answer: yes and no.

First, the VF version that ships with MS is 2.0a (build 31), even though many of the files on the CD are more recent than the same files for SF's VF 2.0c (build 125). It's hard to tell which is newer: MS 2.0a or VF 2.0c. Second, even though Screenblast's support links to SF's web site, VF upgrades (ala 2.0c) cannot be applied to the Screenblast version of VF and there is nothing on the SF website pertaining specifically to MS. So an attempt to upgrade from 2.0a to 2.0c was fruitless - and I'm not sure it's necessary. Third, SF offers a plugin from MainConcept for MPEG 2 encoding. They offer a standard ... and a pro ... version of the plugin. But MS users can only buy the standard version and the pro version of the plugin will NOT work with MS.

For many users these issues may be irrelevant. If so, I would certainly recommend looking further at MovieStudio.

Summary: Software Guru
Review: I read the other reviews and purchased Movie Studio based on what I read. I think this is a fantastic video editing program.
It was incredibly easy to learn, yet offers more functionality, transitions and effects that I think I could use....I would pay $... or more for this program....but only had to pay $...! I cant stop using it creating my family movies, slideshows...

5 Stars and recommended to anyone looking for an easy and in-depth editing software.

Summary: Works with Mpeg video (for an EXTRA ) !!
Review: I shopped around for a video editing program, and this one looked pretty good. Good reviews and so on. Nothing on the box or other product literature suggests that as packaged this product will NOT import or export MPEG Video (the industry and internet standard). There is no mention of video plugins in the manual, on the box, or on the screenblast website, but when you try to import or save a *.mpg file the program asks for your Credit Card number ... to "unlock" the MPEG plugin. ... I'm just waiting for more surprises. one star.
