Summary: DVD PhotoPlay Doesn't Work
Review: I bought this software one month ago. I was required to immediately update it to fix problems that existed with the version I bought. I was able to navigate the program with ease and build a slide show with-in minutes. Now, for the bad news. It would not burn onto a cd-r as described. I contacted v-coms tech support and received a response within a day or two. The patch did not fix the problem and now after several attempts to reach them again, it seems I am stuck with another neat idea that doesn't work. Still waiting for help.

Summary: Sort-of works
Review: I got the 1.04 version with Photo Explosion. The CD slide show feature was the main reason I bought PE. I didn't realize at the time it was Bonus Software, and not PE that did this.

I've had mixed success. I have created a VCD using my Win ME system (128 MB RAM) with about 30 or so photos and music. OK there's not much you can do with the music, but I don't care, I just want to send photos around on CD, not do fancy, timed, multi-media presentations.

When I tried to make a CD with 130 photos (about 100 MB total project size), PhotoPlay wrote the slide show, then caused the OS to thrash about for memory for about 15 minutes, and aborted without writing the PC player software to the CD. (I could head the disk seeking, so I assume ME was doing a virtual memory dance)

I tried to write the same project using Win 2K Pro, SP 3, 256 MB RAM. It did even worse. It tried for 20+ minutes to format the show before giving up. Not a byte was written to the CD.

Keep in mind the FAQs on their web site indicate 500 photos and 700 MB CDs can be made.

I tried the same project, again, on a Win XP Pro system (don't know the RAM size) and it worked as expected.

Results: I can play the properly completed CDs on Win ME and XP systems. Smaller projects, 30 or so photos, play on Win 2K with no trouble. My bigger project (130 photos) does not play on Win 2K. It loads for a while, then puts up half a photo and locks up.

I have tried them on 5 different DVD players. Three work perfectly, two show the photos properly, but screw up the music.

My Samsung P421 player, for example, plays the music at double speed. (less expensive dvd player from a local store_)door buster special, plays the photos and music just fine. I am assuming the problem is with the player and not the CD since it works on more players than it fails on.

I have contacted tech support about my failed to write the CD issues, but have not had any response as yet (about 48 hours later).

This software would be fine for what I need, IF it worked properly. Approach with caution, especially if you run Win ME (my profound sympathy if you do), or Win 2K.

Summary: THIS SOFTWARE IS GARBAGE!
Review: I got this as bonus software on a Photo Explosion Deluxe package. I installed it, I made sure my photos were .jpgs, etc. I mean, I'm not stupid and I can read the simple instructions. It previewed on my computer just fine. I'm running XP-Home. Anyway, I can't burn the CD... it goes through the motions then it gives me one of 4 different reasons it won't burn. I called Tech Support. One guy was really rude, the next guy was good and said he'd send a new installation disk that day. Two weeks later, I got it. Uninstalled the program, reinstalled from the new disk, and OH BOY! A FIFTH ERROR MESSAGE. My computer is new, fast, and has an extra graphics card. 10GB hard drive, 512, the works. I am so sorry I got so excited about this worthless piece of software. BUY SOMETHING ELSE!

Summary: Horrible!
Review: I just recently purchased this near worthless software and found out very quickly that I just wasted [my money]! The music timing is all up to you!(so why did I buy this program?) They give you a chart and you must arrange the number of pictures to fit the music or else your slides end in an awkward manner without music or overrun. Yes you can adjust the time for all the slides but it's in 1 second intervals and in a 50 picture show that's 50 seconds
a show you can be off by because you can't adjust each frame it's all or nothing. ...

Review: I received this software as "bonus" with Photo Explosion Delux. It's terrible. Was easy to create the slideshow and it looked great on my computer. Tried it on 2 DVDs and it didn't play. Tried to re-record it on a CD-RW and it still didn't work! It did run on my husband's laptop, but out of 6 computers I tried it on at work it only was recognized on 1! Very frustrating software. SAVE YOU MONEY FOR SOMETHING BETTER.

Summary: Do Not Buy This Software!
Review: I tried this software as an alternative to ULead's DVD PictureShow. The good news: DVD Photoplay makes it easier to load pictures into a slide show project than ULead's software.

The bad news: THE SOFTWARE DOESN'T WORK. I've tested the program on three computers: An IBM Laptop with a HP USB CD Writer, a Dell desktop with an internal CD Writer, and a Sony VAIO desktop with an internal CD Writer. Whenever I tried to write the project to CD, the software failed to recognize my CD Writer on each machine.

I emailed customer support, and though I was assured I would receive an answer within 3 days, 10 days later I still haven't heard from them.

I wish I had kept my receipt so that I could get my money back for this worthless software...

Summary: Not worth your time
Review: This product is anything but fast, complete, and easy as it claims to be. Unless, you already own Powerpoint it is also useless. You cannot add text or graphics to your photos unless it is done in powerpoint and imported into DVD photoplay. As far as adding background music good luck. The instructions tell you to compress the files and then combine into one large file then once you go to burn the cd it won't recognize the audio size you were told to convert to.

I would not recommend this product to anyone. The concept is great one but failed miserably in it is claim to be fast, complete, easy, and flexible.
