Summary: VOYETRA SELLS OLD INCOMPATIBLE COPIES - BEWARE
Review: If you buy this program, it may not run on the systems that it is purported too. They promote a new version of their product on their web site and then sell old versions through dealers that are incompatible. Then when you contact support about the problem they tell you that you should have bought it direct from them if you wanted a copy of the software that would run on the computers they claim it does.

Summary: Learning all over again
Review: My husband took piano lessons when he was a kid - his mother made him. Sound familiar? Out of nowhere he starts talking about learning again so he purchases these cd's. He's really excited and is literally on the computer every night listening to the cd's and playing his portable piano. Okay, so how many times do I have to listen to 'The Entertainer' ring through the house (sigh)??? Well, he's actually gotten very good at playing, and he's moved on to some other songs (thank goodness!). My husband is not one who reads a lot so the cd's really are great. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to learn the piano all over again!

Summary: Just started using it
Review: Obviously, installation woes. I expect it to be very buggy, it looks like it's made with some kind of demo-making SW rather than coded from scratch. Could not get it to work under Windows XP on an AMD setup (Athlon XP/Asus MB/Audigy), works fine so far under Windows XP on a P4 setup (Dell 8300 w/SB5.1). Looks like, as of 2004, most of the Piano Teaching SW programs out there that use a MIDI KB are obsolete, there's this one, Piano Suite, and eMedia Piano & Keyboard left? Those are both twice as expensive. Can somebody compare them? I see that the Piano Suite people are suppressing some bad reviews with their lawyers and it might be as old as this one (XP isn't mentioned in the OS list), and I see that the emedia one is the same company as a very well reviewed guitar program and is brand spanking new and modern (mentions OSX 10.2 in the mac version and XP for PC), but I haven't seen many reviews.
The consensus so far is, it works best on older OSs (98se ets.) might not work at all under XP or 2000 depending on your setup, and when it works, is pretty good. You know what? I'm gonna get the emedia one too and compare sometime.

Summary: Good Software as long as you don't upgrade your computer
Review: The idea behind this software is pretty good, but don't plan on using it if you have Windows 2000. It's sad that companies like this haven't upgraded their code to run on operating systems that have been out for more than two years.

It is slightly buggy, so expect that, especially with the MDI cables, and the 'scoring' they perform on your performances.

Summary: If you have installation errors under Windows 2000, try this
Review: This is the info (hard to find) from Turtle Beach support site:
"Teach Me Piano is compatible with Windows 3.1, Windows 95/98, Windows ME and Windows NT 4.0. It is not supported in Windows 2000.[I can run it fine, though...]
After installing Teach Me Piano in Windows 2000 you may receive the error message: "Application has not been installed correctly. Please run setup." [Definitely got this, thought it was related to shortcut and folder names that have spaces in them.]
The following workaround is offered as is, *UNSUPPORTED* as a courtesy to our customers and no guarantees are being made.
----------------------------------------------------------------
If you receive this error message, you may be able to access the application by doing the following:
Once you have installed Teach Me Piano, just make a shortcut on your desktop:
1. Right click on your Windows desktop and select New > Shortcut
2. Click on browse.
3. Browse to your CD-ROM drive where Teach Me Piano is located.
4. Browse to and open the Lessons folder. Within the Lessons folder locate:
teachpno.exe and click 'Open'
5. The command line will fill in by itself so just click 'Next.'
6. Give the shortcut a name and click 'Finish.'
7. Double-click on your new shortcut and it should bring you into the keyboard Lessons."

I find the program nicely designed, but did not go through the full contents yet. I see that support on website is awfully lacking. Still, I was able to get it to work (vs. another program from Magix -- "Piano & Keyboard Workshop" that is a complete scam and does not support anything)

Summary: Terrible usability
Review: Warning: This program must(!) be run from the CD drive. The installation process does not allow you to intall it to your hard drive even of you have plenty of disk space (most computers do these days).

I suppoose Voyetra does this to discourage software piracy (as if you couldn't just burn a copy of the CD). However, you the buyer will pay the price.

Running the program from the CD drive is slow and noisy and will be a distraction to your keyboard lessons.

I suggest you stay away from this program until Voyetra stops teating their buyers like potential criminals.

Summary: My son is finally enjoying the Piano!
Review: We have tired other programs and they have only ended up in frustration. Teach Me Piano has video clips on hand placement and starts each song out slowly. We can even print up the music to play on our media player to practice on when not on the computer. My son enjoys the applause when he get the piece right. I did find out that if I sat with him through the lessons and operated the mouse to start the practices, while he concentrated on the keyboard, he did much better with each lesson. That way he wasn't switching back and forth between mouse and keyboard.

We did have some problems when we first installed the program, but we received good support and fixed them.
