Summary: Not Worth the Money
Review: In trying the eMedia Guitar Method 1, I did not expect perfection or the highest quality production. My expectations were unpleasantly accurate, therefore. The software boasts about several songs you will easily learn. The songs, however, are simplified, dummed-down versions of the originals and anything but cool sounding. The poor sound quality (instructor only uses an acoustic, and the lyrical track is recorded much louder than the guitar) and simplicity of programming design leave the consumer unsatisfied. Although the program does present an easy way to learn a few chords and how to strum a guitar, one is better off saving the $49.95 and visiting the local public library.

Summary: Well appreciated
Review: Learning any musical instrument can be tedious and difficult especially when trying to imitate popular artists that have been playing and performing for many years. This product simplifies well known songs giving beginners access to a repertoire they can expand once more skills are acquired. Playing skills are taught in a step by step method through a series of progressive and easy to follow lessons. After each lesson this product lists other songs that can be found in an online database to which one could apply the material just learned. Great for beginners.

Summary: Well worth the price
Review: Prior to purchasing this product I had never even touched a guitar even though I had always wanted to learn to play one. It took me about 3 weeks to get through the entire course (slow actually) and by the time I had finished I was playing. I've been practicing and playing on my own since finishing the course 3 months ago and can play well enough to keep up with my dad who's played all his life.

The course layout is simple and easy to follow. Each section builds on the previous sections using chords and techiques covered in those earlier sections. The animated fretboard and chord chart make the course that much easier to use. I can highly recommend this course to anyone wishing to learn to play the guitar.

Review: THE GOOD NEWS: YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO PLAY GUITAR! THE BAD NEWS: NO ONE ELSE WANTS YOU TO PLAY GUITAR! YOU'RE TOO OLD, DON'T HAVE HANDS, OR A REAR END. FEAR NOT!!! THIS CD-ROM WILL TEACH EVEN A HANDLESS, BUTTLESS FOOL. REAL SONGS, REAL EASY!

I AM BEING SILLY, BUT THIS IS A GREAT PLACE TO START. TAKE SOME LESSONS WITH A REAL TEACHER FIRST AND THEN GET THIS CD. YOUR PROGRESS WILL BE GREAT. KEEP WORKING AND YOU'LL GET BETTER! GUITAR FOR DUMMIES IS ANOTHER GREAT RESOURCE!

Summary: Good Start
Review: This is a great way to get started playing the guitar. You have to crawl before you walk so don't expect to be an expert. I have already learned a couple of simple songs just in the last week. My advice is to take your time with each lesson until the exercises come as second nature - don't rush! Some of the songs are old folksy type songs, but these type of songs are simple and easy to learn. Similar lessons can be found on the internet for free, but who has time to search for them. Also, the internet is often times slow or unavailable. This software includes everything you need in one package which makes it fast and convenient. In these days of $45,000 SUVs and $7 cheeseburgers,... is a good bargain for all you get in this software.

Summary: Very good - better than a book
Review: This is a very good program for learning how to play. It is better than a book because you can hear what the song should sound like. It is also more relaxed and less intimidating than taking lessons. Highly recommended. The only problem is the selection of songs - mostly folksy stuff.

Summary: This is a Great Product well worth the price
Review: This is an excellent program to get you started learning guitar. It covers many style and types of music and builds confidence in that it allows you to actually play along with the instructor. It covers the basics in different struming techniques, and fingerstyles, and is designed for those who don't know how to read music, although it includes a section for those who want to learn. The guitar tuner is worth the price alone. I finished it in a matter of weeks, and have gone on to the second in the series and also the bass program. Very user friendly.

Summary: Bad Habits
Review: This program tries to simplify the process of learning guitar and as aresult doesn't teach you anything but bad habits. The chords theyteach are simplified structures that are sometimes taught to childrenwhose hands aren't big enough to reach the proper positions. Theessence of beggining guitar is learning to stretch your hands to chordproperly and finger memory-getting to the point where your fingers hitthe chords without having to think about it. By teaching simplifiedchords and such, your time is wasted. You can quickly play a song butit doesn't sound right and you'll need to re-learn all yourchords.
