Summary: Excellent Biblical sequel!
Review: This movie begins with a clip from it's successful prequel, "The Robe", creating a feeling of nostalgia. The story here is marvellous, if not as good as it's prequel's. This time the attention is on Demetrius, the Greek slave freed by the Roman centurion Marcellus. Condemned to fight as a gladiator when he dares to attack a Roman soldier, Demetrius learns that the Christian path is a difficult one. When his lover is assaulted by other gladiators, he renounces his faith and lives the life of a Roman pagan. Later on, he realizes his mistake and leaves Rome and its riches to be with his people. There's lots of action and interesting characters in this movie. Jay Robinson as the eccentric Caligula and Susan Hayward as a high-class Roman femme fatale are fabulous. Thankfully,Christian values are not compromised. The story may appear slow-moving for a while, but it certainly gets better. You'll definitely feel good at the end of this movie.

Summary: A good sequel
Review: This movie is a good sequel to The Robe. If you enjoyed The Robe, you'll enjoy this movie, too. It's good entertainment, but it is not an epic film by any means.

In essence, the story is Demetrius grieves for Marcellus and Diana and begins to doubt God. Later, he is captured and turned into a gladiator who won't fight. That is, he won't fight until he's motivated to by a series of manipulations by a woman. He then turns his back on God until Peter works with him to bring him back to the faith.

The cinematography and sets are very similar to The Robe, almost like they were shot at the same time. What you expect/see from the first you'll see here.

Summary: Embodiment of Victor Mature's acting skills at their best!
Review: This movie represents the zenith of Victor Mature's acting skills. All of his intensity, whether for joy or sorrow, comes into play in the role of the Greek slave who finds Christianity in Caligula's Rome. His indominable spirit overcomes the gladiator's pit, as well as Messalina's pit, to prevail as he returns to the God he thought betrayed him. Supported by a maniacal performance by Jay Robinson as Caligula as well as many other fine supporting cast members, and a swelling musical score which causes a lump to form in one's throat, this movie displays the fine, naturalistic acting ability of an actor too long overlooked. This is the role he was born to play! END

Summary: Entertaining sequel, though it's historically inaccurate
Review: This movie starts just where the biblical blockbuster "The Robe", ended. This is another film that showcases the fine acting talent of the late actor Victor Mature as Demetrius, a Christian gladiator who is hiding the robe of Christ from the evil and insane Roman emperor Caligula. The story is moving and entertaining even though some of the events presented here are historically inaccurate and/or misrepresented; the most notably being the eventual demise of Caligula.

Summary: Demetrius and the Gladiators
Review: Victor Mature gives us a multifaucted performance. In this moveie the costumes were glamorous like the 10 Commandments. the one with Charlton heston. The scenery was not opulant but not sparse. I recommend this movie. It starts out slow but builds up so keep watching.

Summary: Better than Gladiator.
Review: Victor Mature makes a better gladiator than Russell Crowe in this sequal to "the Robe."

Join Demetrius in his journey as he battles gladiators, tigers, Caligula, and most dangerous his feelings for the wiley and seductive Susan Haywood. What makes this movie so entertaining is the moral dilemma he faces, and his fall and redemption. This is a real man facing real temptations in an immoral world, much like we are in today.

Jay Robinson makes a welcome return as the emperor Caligula, chewing up the scenary with his wonderful performance.

This is like gladiator with heart.

Summary: Good Sequel! could be called prodigal son II
Review: Victor Mature plays Demetrius, The Greek slave left behind. He resists the seductive Susan Hayward, and survives in the arena. He strays after thinking that his girlfriend is killed. He rejects Christ and begins a illict affair with Hayward. He returns to the fold after the emperor orders him to get the robe. He finds that Debra Piaget is still alive. The movie ends with Demetrius, The Nubian, and St. Peter all leaving triumphantly as soldiers of the cross. What good drama!
