Summary: I guess this movie's a weenie after all...
Review: Being a reasonably voracious viewer of cult flicks and trash-cinema 'classics', I set my sights on the legendary (?!) Troma™ mo-pic Sgt. Kabukiman, NYPD™. After checking it out, I'm sorry to say I was rather disappointed. Now I know Troma™ flicks tend to be silly are not to be taken seriously, but the kimono-clad sarge's misadventures were a bit too dumb even for my low cinematic standards! Sure, it had a few moments of brilliance (such as the "executive shoe-shine" scene and Kabukiman™'s first use of his bizarre powers against a gang of muggers in Central Park), but it was counter-balanced by really corny dialogue (the "you don't have your super-hero learner's permit yet" line was a real groaner), a few dumb sight gags (our hero turning one of the mugger-gang members into a pile of weenies, for example), and the most anticlimactic super-hero/super-villain battle I've ever seen (the one in the Spider-Man™ flick is a close second). There's even a scene transition that was shamelessly ripped off from Spaceballs™ ("nice dissolve...") that's just a little less unfunny here than it as the first time 'round. Most of the side features, including a short promo for the never-developed Kabukiman™ 'toon show and the sarge caught in a sexual harassment suit instigated by the movie's simian star were pretty retarded, too.

But this presentation did have one saving grace: Lloyd Kaufman's feature-length commentary track. He threw out several entertaining anecdotes about the production of the flick, explanations of how certain sequences were shot, and real-life events that inspired some of the scenes. He even gets political during the last several minutes of the feature, letting the listener in on his conspiracy theory regarding the news media and the corporate elite. It was something I found a real hoot to listen to! But other than the smattering of cool scenes and Lloyd's 'Roids, Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD™ couldn't even cut it as a part-time mall cop in the precinct that is my video cabinet...

Summary: Sgt. K. (is great)!
Review: Every time I see this movie it gets funnier and cooler! The star Rick Gianasi has it all-cuteness,sexyness and a nack for physical humor which makes the movie the greatest! True that the quality of the video isnt great but it improves with the DVD version. I would like it if the sound was 5:1 but I had so much fun with this movie that I didnt miss it too much. Kudos to Lloyd Kaufman about the DVD extras. I would love to meet the people at Troma Team- They seem to be so imaginative and fun. (...)

Summary: Poor video quality
Review: I agree with trofaman, the movie is just great. Complete nonsense with a poor storyline but really really funny. The main problem with this release is that video quality is very poor. This is why I don't recommended buying this DVD.

Summary: Sgt. Kabukiman, N.Y.P.D.
Review: I picked this up because it was well recommended. That was an evil joke! Troma took a bizarre but interesting idea and transformed in into 4 hrs (feels like it) of tape which was more interesting when it was blank. The same dumb, predictable, overused 'gags' that you've seen too many times elsewhere are poorly repeated. There is an attempt at characterization but it never gets past 1.5 dimensions - not flat but damn close. Special effects are minimalistic at best. And to top it off the video starts with an introduction about how to make independent films that omits the most important part - how to find suckers to pay for this dreck. Pass this one up.

Summary: I prase you Kabukiman
Review: If it's not TROMA it's not worth watching. Especilly Kabukima

Summary: Another victory for Troma
Review: Isn't it ironic that the home video market almost killed Troma and now it is responsible for Troma's huge resurgence? Lloyd Kaufman is not taking it for granted. He is loading up these dvds with extras, not just trailers and triva, but this one comes with the rare animated Kabukiman cartoon! It also has great commentary by the star Rick Gianisi, and if that's not enough may I remind you that the movie is a cult classic because it is a hilarious homage to camp classics like the Adam West Batman series. It can't hurt that one of the female police officers wears a thin white tank top and painted on spandex jogging shorts either!!
