Summary: Formula disaster movie
Review: This movie is a good disaster movie with all the elements of a disaster movie. There are all the stereotype disaster characters form the "I'll ride it out" to the "You are scaring my customers". I do not want to go too much into detail as you will lose the shock value. I can tell you it involves a volcano and a budding love story.

Summary: A DIASASTER FILM OF EXPLOSIVE POWER! December 21, 2002
Review: "DANTE'S PEAK" is indeed one of the most spectacular and greatest DISASTER motion pictures of alltime! It's countless disasters, strong and powerful human drama, and outstanding special-effects of fire, flood and hell on earth make for powerful medicine that fuels an unbelievable story of conquest, courage and suffering unlike any other. Unlike the films "TWISTER!" (That dealt with a serious outbreak of TORNADOES in Oklahoma), "THE POSIEDON ADVERTURE" (With a massive TSUNAMI/TIDAL WAVE), and "THE TOWERING INFERNO" (Which dealt with a spectacular FIRE in the tallest building ever built), "DANTE'S PEAK" is magnificient collaboration of IRWIN ALLEN'S disaster films like "FIRE" and "FLOOD" that captures the true realism of disaster! It's even greater than "WHEN TIME RAN OUT" (Involving an spectacular VOLCANO eruption in paradise). With an outstanding cast starring PIERCE BRONSON (In what I consider to be one of his best works), and LINDA HAMILTON, "DANTES'S PEAK" will literally KEEP YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEATS! Filled with spectacular scenes of chaos and destruction, "DANTE'S PEAK" shows the courage, the suffering of the town, that was ever filmed! Like "THE TOWERING INFERNO", with it's continual surprizes, "DANTE'S PEAK" keep you ever wondering "WHAT ELSE CAN GO WRONG?" or even more so "WHAT'S NEXT?" (What worst thing could possibly happen next?). It's a powerful tale of VOLCANOES, love and the evitable oblteration of the town known as "DANTE'S PEAK!" The most memorable scenes in the movie occur when Dante's Peak erupts and the madness to survive and escape follows! (ONE NOTE: THE ENDING OF THE FILM CLEARLY SHOWS THE HORRIBLE DESTRUCTION AND THE AFTERMATH, SHOWING "DANTE'S PEAK" RESEMBLING A MOUNT ST. HELENS REPLICA AS IF TO REMIND US ALL OF THAT TERRIBLE CATASTROPHE BACK IN MAY 1980, AS WELL AS TO SHOW THAT IT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN HERE IN THE U.S.AGAIN AT ANYTIME. A WARNING WE SHOULD ALL HEED AND PREPARE FOR!). By far "DANTE'S PEAK" is a disaster film of the highest calliber! I recommend it highly! It has become my favorite alltime #1 DISASTER motion picture!

Summary: Memories from a disaster film
Review: Having been on a lake in Eastern Washington when the ash clouds rolled in, I can say that this film brought alot of memories back to me. I can simply say that the scenes dealing with ash, water, and mud are very well done and very realistic(No, I do not think a 4x4 can drive on lava!). We were then stranded on a highway with NO visibility, choking, and our engine dead from the ash. The film captures that very well. Also, as a professional offroad instructor, it was great to see a film deal with at least some aspects of real four wheel driving. This is a fun action movie regardless, but the fact that they researched volcanoes and included realistic special effects puts this high on my movie list. As I said, it certainly brings back memories!

Summary: A little bit of everthing!
Review: After seing the the movie Volcano I wasn't to sure about Dantes Peak. Weel when I stuck it in the VCR I was really amazed! The effects were so amazing you had to say the were real. The Ash from the Volcano looks exactly like it should. No fake lava bombs rain down from the sky. Everything looks so real. This movie is kind of based on the Mt St Helens story. At the beginning two people take a hot dip in some hot springs when all of a sudden the temprature rises and kills them. Next the Volcano erupts causing an earthquake which you can see destroy buildings, highways even a gas station exploads. Then Rachel's kids go up to get their Grandma Ruth from her lodge. After all of the them get there lava flows through the lodge and flows into the lake than Harry climbs into a boat but acid eats the boat and Ruth up. Then comes which I was suprised to see a Lahar or Mudslide. The mudslide destroys a dam and kills Harry's boss Paul. Then comes the big final. Harry and Rachel are in their car when the mountain totally exploads causing a Pyroclastic Flow. The flow destroys the town but Harry and Rachel survive by driving into a mine. After that they get saved and the movie is over. Really good movie.

Summary: A Top Grade adventure film.....except for one scene.
Review: Dantes Peak is a top grade adventure film with good characters and brilliant special effects. The chemistry between the two leads is very good and the production values are outstanding. If only they could have edited out the one absurd scene where they drive across a lava flow. They wouldn't have gotten five feet and it makes the lead character look incredibly stupid to even try. But apart from this, the movie is eccellent and this DVD had loads of extras, including a 60 minute documentary and a commentary that isn't available in other regions.Well worth buying.

Summary: Thar She Blows!!!
Review: This 1997 movie came out around the same time Tommy Lee Jones' movie "Volcano" did too. This one is better. I might be a little biased because this movie was filmed about 45 miles or so away from where I live. I guess I have a case of favoritism going on here. Pierce Brosnan(Bond, James Bond)stars as a volcano expert named Harry Dalton from the U.S. Geological Survey who is taken to the small, quaint, picturesque town of Dante's Peak, when there is evidence of an active volcano. He meets Rachel Wando, the town's mayor(played by Linda Hamilton)and alerts her that her town is in danger. Not everyone, including some of Harry's co-workers, think there is imminent danger. Oh they would be wrong. So wrong. Before you can say 'Mt. St. Helens', the volcano erupts and the town is in it's warpath. Ash flies everywhere, lava destroying everything in it's path, steaming lakes, mudslides, flooding. You name it. This is a disaster film and they throw in plenty of disaster. The effects in this movie are really awesome. If anything, there's that. It's very realistic and pulled off very nicely. Trees and buildings being incinerated look really good. For me, the best sequence in the film is when Pierce, Linda, her kids, and Grandma are traveling across the steaming lake in the little boat and the boat is slowly being eaten away. Great suspense in this intense and nerve racking scene. Pierce Brosnan is a charming presence, and is pretty believeable in his role as a volcano expert. Linda Hamilton doesn't whip out the finely tuned muscles she had in "Terminator 2", but she holds her own. Nicely cast as a mother and mayor of a small town. Charles Hallahan, who will best be remembered as the captain in the "Hunter" TV series also stars. I got the chance to drive over to this town and saw some stuff being filmed. I caught a brief glimpse of Linda Hamilton, but nothing great. I saw Pierce's chair. I was there to see the filming of the town racing out of the school as the volcano erupted and the church steeple crumbled over and smashed into the school bus. It was a great sight to behold. This was in Wallace, Idaho. This isn't a monumental film that most people will probably remember afterwards. It's pure Hollywood entertainment in every way. It's fun, exciting, and it is very entertaining. That's what we expect with a film like this and that is exactly what we get.

Summary: A FABULOUS movie
Review: Dante's Peak is one of the BEST movies that I have ever seen that has Pierce Brosnan (for Brosnan fans), and a movie that is based on a natural disaster. Anyone who likes action movies, along with scientific stuff, Pierce Brosnan, and love stories would LOVE this movie. The only thing that bothers me is that the rubber on the tires melt extremely quickly and wouldn't be able to continue keeping its shape after being burned. But other than that, this is a great movie!

Summary: Its one of the best movies I have seen........
Review: It is a really cool, film, its funny when the grandma gets out the boat and burns her legs in the water. I like the bit where harrys boss falls off the bridge. I think the dog is so cute, I like the end where they all get saved.
