Summary: A good action film
Review: After John Woo's move to Hollywood, things got a little bit shaky for a while with this John Travolta/Christian Slater action flick. And while the action is good, the story feels like it was taken from a pile marked "unused Steven Seagal ideas". That said, Travolta is effortlessly cool, slowly making his way back to the top with films like Pulp Fiction after the slump of the 80's. Woo's flair for impressive action and stunts is evident, as Slater is out to try to stop Travolta from detonating a stolen missile (hence the film's title).

We're in familiar territory, but it's a Woo movie, so the action is thankfully better than the average action flick. Samantha Mathis is the love interest for Slater's character, but she's as cardboard as they come, the plot is rather brainless and some unconvincing techno-jargon ruins the film's credibility. But the action saves the film, with the ever-present things exploding and helicopter chases making this one a solid, if not always-realistic action flick.

Summary: Travolta never looked so cool!
Review: Again, like all John Woo movies, this film is mostly for the visual thrills and cool demeanors of the characters

You know you're watching a John Woo movie if...

1. Most everyone is wearing a black trenchcoat.
2. Half the movie is in slow motion.
3. Heros are generally proceeded by doves or other glowing, symbolic
items of mass courage.
4. More than one helicopter explodes.
5. Everyone cool wears sunglasses and eventually removes them in a
slow-motion, classy mannor.
6. Character names are unusual, but deeply representative.
7. Motorcycles are rampant.
8. The hero can shoot the badguy while jumping through fire, swinging
from a rope, falling down an elevator shaft or riding on the
front wheel of a motorcycle while spinning a
one-hundred-eighty degree circle at sixty miles per hour.
9. The plot generally revolves around the villian's intent on mass
destruction.
10. Ammunition lasts more than the clip can hold. MUCH more.
11. Always more than one gun shoots at the same time.
12. By the end of the movie everything that isn't exploding has
already exploded.

Summary: One of my favorites!
Review: At the sound of the title ringing in my ears when I rented it, I didn't think I would like it. But I did, and boy, did I like it. I watched it twice before it had to go back to the video store. And why is it so good? I'll tell you why.

Before I saw this movie, the only John Woo film I'd seen was Face/Off, but I'd seen plenty of Samantha Mathis, John Travolta, and Christian Slater movies. All three of the actors listed above gave awesome performances, and this isn't just a film done for action, as it seems to be. It has drama, action, romance, all the genres in one! Deakins (Travolta) and Hale (Slater) play military co-officers at good terms at each other, sparring in the boxing ring as the movie opens, but as the film progresses, Deakins betrays his friends trust by trying to steal two nuclear warheads for his own personal benefit. Even a park ranger named Terry Carmichael (Mathis) comes in the play to add a little flavor. But the problem always remains: will Hale do what he has to to take the warheads back into his possession, even if it means going against Deakins, or will he not, and fail his mission and his obligation to Terry?

Being one of my fave movies, I'd have to say this movie has only a few minor flaws.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: very entertaining
Review: best line in the movie was "I don't know which is most disturbing, that we have lost a nuclear missile or the fact it happens so often we have a term for it."

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: It's good, no matter what anyone says
Review: Broken Arrow doesn't have the best actors and acting but the action makes up for it. Hey what r movies for, all movies don't have to be dramatical all the time. I know this one doesn't have to be b/c Travolta and Slater pulled it out for me and my family. when we saw this my whole family loved it and i can't believe all the negative reviews i'm seeing. I just must be an action junkie or something, but anyway if u like Travolta and action then u should see this one.

Summary: Arrow's premise not broke, but straight production is
Review: Broken Arrow is a strange kind of movie because its premise is sound enough--betrayal that results in nuclear blackmail. However, the manner in which it is carried out is very bland and very, well, straight. Straight is usually a coveted adjective for movies in this day and age when it takes months for production, except in this instance when some kind of unexpected, off-the-beaten path direction would have inhanced a rather bland movie in Broken Arrow. John Woo (who usually adds one break-neck, braintwister camera angle after another) is very restrained and conservative in his efforts with Broken Arrow. The only weirdness comes from the actors, particularly John Travolta. Travolta keeps things interesting as the cocky, but very quirky, turncoat Air Force pilot Deakins. Christian Slater is okay as the hero who must bring down Deakins. The supporting actors are a cast of virtual unknowns (the exception being ex-Raider Howie Long in an intentionally slow-witted performance as one of "Deke's" henchmen). Outside of Travolta and Slater, Broken Arrow isn't broke in its premise, just in its straight-down-the-line approach to what is supposed to be a perilous situation.

Summary: Deja vu? THUNDERBALL!
Review: Broken Arrow is a virtual retread of the James Bond classic, Thunderball. In both movies, a criminal syndicate plots to steal two nuclear warheads and threaten the world. Broken Arrow doesn't even bother to change the number of warheads stolen. Like Thunderball, the bombs are stolen from a high-tech bomber by a pilot who is not what he seems(In Thunderball, the villainous agent was made into the image of the man with access to the bomber through surgery.). Also, the villain doesn't meet his demise in a hokey boxing match. Why does Travolta do this? He has a machine gun laying around somewhere, so why doesn't he kill Slater and get it over with? There is also the device for setting off the bomb. In Thunderball it looked like a cylinder. Broken Arrow replaced this with a cell-phone like remote. Nothing is developed. The reason I gave Thunderball....er..Broken Arrow three stars is because it is fun and nothing else.

Summary: Definitely a Grabber !
Review: Broken Arrow is all that you want from an action movie and what more if you have John Woo as the director. Travolta's cool 'n composed character is really impressive and you'll really like the background score for Travolta. In all, a damn good action movie !

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: More like 3 1/2 stars for a good action flick...
Review: Broken Arrow isn't my favorite action movie, but it never fails to be interesting. The plot puts a somewhat original spin on an overused idea, but the two leads (Travolta and Slater) are what keeps the movie entertaining. They may not dive into deep emotional connections with their characters, but they play their roles with an awareness of their target audience. This movie knows it's not a genius and it's not afraid to cover this up with exciting action scenes and cool one-liners.

There are plenty of mistakes though, like at the end when a gunshot wound to Travolta's arm dissapears in the next scene. But if you never saw this movie, and are looking for an action film with some flare and not necessarily a lot of intelligence then you'll almost certainly not hate this one.
