Summary: One of the reasons why the kids get their own VCR...
Review: ---
...is so they can watch ghodawful "but it's got *CARTOONS* in it, Poppi!" beasts like this one in a soundproofed room somewhere far away from anyone over the age of eight-and-a-half.

Look, I took my kids to see this turkey in its initial theatrical release, cringing throughout every one of Helen Reddy's noxious songs, because my wife insisted that the children would like it. When it came out on videotape, I gloved up and bought the damned thing because my wife insisted that the grandchildren would like it. She is now on notice that if she insists on getting this Disney disaster on DVD, I will consider it grounds for divorce.

PETE'S DRAGON is an insult to the intelligence of everything with a central nervous system above the evolutionary stage of the common garden slug, and even garden slugs tend to writhe in agony when they hear Helen Reddy sing. I shudder to think of the ecological impact of getting her work from this flick onto a home theater with adequate amplification and DVD fidelity.

There are definitely Disney productions worth translating skillfully into digital videodisc format (FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR being one example), but this boojum belongs on your "lend-and-forget" list if you should ever be so unfortunate as to come into possession of a copy.

Summary: Disney's Pete's Dragon as a 30 year old ...
Review: I first saw this movie at age 30 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Its music, humor, and charming storyline more than make up for the occasional clumsiness. It is one of our family's favorites.

Summary: Lovely Film!
Review: This film is quite good. From the moment I saw it I enjoyed it. But some parts drift and can (at some times) become quite tiresome. This story is about a boy and his "imaginary" dragon. It's good, but adults may find the story a bit boring and could see it as too long. Some scenes could have been edited, but all in all, it's a must-see Disney classic!

Summary: Loved it as a kid, still enjoy it now
Review: As a child this was one of my favorite live action/animated movies, along with Mary Poppins. I used to watch it so much I had practically all the songs memorized, especially Candle on the Water, Brazzel Dazzel Day, and my personal favorite scene, Bill of Sale. I'm 17 now, and I rewatched my old tape of this the other day, and I still enjoyed it, must be the Nostalgia. :) Anyway, I've been reading reviews and I've found a lot of people to be far too critical, it's obviously not Mary Poppins, but it still has its own charm. Almost any child could enjoy this movie, and I'd certainly recomend it.

Summary: MEMEORIS & MEMORIES!!!!!
Review: A terrific story about an orphaned boy sold for slavery who is rescued by a magical dragon and is adopted by a lighthouse keeper (Helen Reddy) waiting for her fiance to return from time at sea. The dragon helps young Peter escape the clutches of a wily magican and the evil family who subjected the young boy to slavery. A delightful mix of animation and regular screening with an excellent musical score make this film a trip down memory lane.

Summary: A Disney classic that every family will love
Review: Pete's Dragon, although not one of Disney's best known movies, is a wonderful story of an orphan and his dragon. Every family will enjoy the crisp picture and good sound on the DVD, plus the bonus features included on the DVD.

Summary: Excellent DVD with good extras and THE BEST Disney songs
Review: The Pete's Dragon DVD was, I believe, the first of the pre-90's Disney films to be released with some decent bonus features. Now, with the Snow White, Dumbo, and Peter Pan special editions, Disney seems to realize that extra features sell extra copies. The best extras on this disc are the 4, yes, 4 bonus programs, including a Walt-hosted television excerpt called, "The Plausible Impossible (which the dvd case doesn't mention) and a very trippy documentary called "Man, Monsters, And Mysteries," featuring the voice of Winnie the Pooh.

Pete's Dragon has a fantastic cast, great choreography, and the most consistently good score of any Disney movie. I dare you to find one song, in lyrics and music, that's below par. Surprisingly, there is no soundtrack album in print.

The only weakness in my view is uninspired direction. Notice the waste of visuals in "Candle on the Water" and you'll see what I mean.

Summary: "Lousy Disney musical..."
Review: Lousy Disney musical has lighthouse keepers Reddy and Rooney befriending a young boy (Marshall) and his animated dragon. Forgettable songs and poorly choreographed dance numbers abound in this attempt to recreat the magic of Mary Poppins. The special effects are pretty bad as well, and the actors spend most of the film snickering behind each other's backs.
